Food banks up and down the country really struggle to get sanitary towels, tampons, toothpaste, and body wash etc. So if you can donate things like that it would be really really appreciated
This is a horrifying eye-opener. I'm from Dundee, this is something I knew went on but I didn't have a clue how vast the problem was. This video only just came up on my recommendations and I'm glad it did. I'll be phoning this food bank tomorrow and seeing what stock they're needing.
Did you do it? The food bank will usually take anything still in date, they usually just ask for the basics like tins, pasta, sauces, biscuits, uht milk.
I know a homeless guy who takes his walker, one of them that has a seat, wheels, and hand brakes, rolls it up to an intersection and asks for help. I gave him some money yesterday, and he looked rougher than normal, because he lives in the woods. We had that really cold weather the week before, can't imagine roughing it outside. The guy's skin looks like leather from being exposed to the element's, feel bad because he is an older man over 60. I am disabled myself, and I don't have a lot of money, but I was lucky that before I became fully disabled I bought a repossessed home on a quarter acre from the money I got from being badly hurt on the job. I had to get the roof done, put in a well pump, and a new electric box because the last people took the electrical box and cut the wire's. This was 2011, and now rent, food, water, and utilities have sky rocketed. I thank the Lord for guiding me, because a lot of thing's medically disabled me, and my disability would have got me a rental, but not much more. I feel bad for everyone out there struggling, and the rona has made it worse. I am in my 50's, and can't walk without a cane, and my left side is partially non functional. If I were more able I would find the homeless camp and help them. I helped a guy with a sign a couple week's ago, and he had lost his job from the rona plandemic, and he could barely look at me because you could tell he felt ashamed. I always make sure they know it's a gift from God, because it is. God bless all of you who are struggling, and those trying to help.
What a nice boy Robbie is! The country would be in a much better state if there were more people like him. You should be really proud of yourself, Robbie! We are proud of you.
My heart aches for the kids in poverty. they don't really know what they are missing, I remember being at school and not having the latest kit or trainers etc and kids can be very cruel. work should pay and this situation where people are out working and still have to attend food banks etc is madness. The SNP has been in government for over 13 years and still nothing has changed. I really hope most in this clip can forge ahead make a life with either working or proper social benefits.
That's why I dont send pennies to feed starving African children I feel we should feed our own starving folks first and let the Africans sort out there own affairs.
I'm a single dad too, my son's name is also Jack. I'm from Aberdeen but live in Inverness now. I am also on my arse. The things these people do is genuinely amazing. It always breaks my heart to know I cannot give Jack the best things in life.
@@robertsime3768 I wouldn't say that mate I'd blame Labour, especially Tony Blair's Labour. They spent so much money and put us into crippling debt and then started a fucking war and that just sealed our fate with debt. The Tory cut backs are a consequence of Labours ridiculous spending. While I will agree that things like Universal Credit is the most moronic thing on earth, it's also a fact that something had to be done about the benefits system because far too many people were claiming benefits they weren't even entitled to. Like lazy People, people who were faking pain etc, it was madness. And yes as a result it's hurt quite a few genuine people, but that isn't Tories fault, it's sponging benefits cheats that are to blame. Don't get me wrong, I ain't no right wing supporter nor do I support the Tories. But when you look into the facts behind all of this, it leads back to Labour and Tony Blair. What we need is a complete and utter overhaul of how people are given benefits and how they should be spent. Things like reduced payments for gas and electric for people on benefits. Lower food prices. Or people should get food vouchers on top of their monthly payments. Things like that would really help people live a better quality of life. I've not long moved out of Inverness and I'm staying in Nairn, which is about 16miles outside Inverness. I have severe mental health problems and the only place I can be seen is at the hospital in Inverness. And I can never afford the £9 bus/train fare to get to my appointments to get the help I need. And they refuse to help me out. Things like that should seriously be looked into. People shouldn't have to pay a penny towards getting help for pain or mental health etc.
@@JamieR1988 Its been a year since you commented...I hope things have improved for you. I understand fully how hard it can be to get help with medical/mental health issues. In NZ our health system is not as efficient as it has been/should be and while I think we are much better off than some countries, its sad that so much support has been cut from the government. As you point out there are many things that could easily be implemented to help those in need of it. All the best, hopefully in the last year things have been less of a struggle for you.
I was refused food bank as a single person living in a dorm room whilst not being a student but otherwise homeless because I was FORCED BY GOVERNMENT to move out or I'd be in trouble for living at parents. Resulting me being struggler. No problem. Then foodbank came along: "Aw, too bad. You make 30 cents too much to qualify"...................30 CENT... I went on FB in a social page of this region in which is dedicated by volunteers to asking/offering things for free, I asked for a meal for the night, and it resulted in two trucks and 2 families coming over and filling my room with food/snacks/breakfast/toiletry that lasted me for 2 months. For free. . . This was 4 years ago, yet to this day the deeds will forever be remembered. And to this day it still brings me to tears. At the end after another failed governmental actions, demands and displacing me into their so-called housing, they physically and mentally abused me made me ill (yes, physically also) and when I threatened, they had no choice but to allow me to live back at parents... which initially I moved back to 7 years ago due to falling ill. The next 7 years I endured nothing but grief and hell. Life can change in a split second, even when you think to be safe under your own parents' roof. I am now back since February at parents, and I am blessed to be reunited. They saved me.
やぶさおびなた .30cents!!! Shameful, that person should off thrown that out and gave you food. Anyway look at God❤️ Great blessing in disguise. Glad it all worked out for you.
Im so sorry.. I was turned away for .25usd.. I had a 5yr old.. 2yr old and 1yrd old. I didnt want to stop working part time.. My husband was working nights fulltime. They recommended we both stop working.or have another child because that would void the .25 cents. I was barely making the morgage.. And feeding us. No way was i going to bring another child.. We stayed above water.. We made it out. Thank God.
Yes,and this drama do you have trough is in Germany,France ,Italy nearly hole Europe. And it would be stronger. The riches go riches and poor go.....!It make 's me sad, cause I'm a elderly woman who have her Pension (I'm german)and I must fight to pay my bills ,buy food etc.My Childs helps but it give women on earth they have no child ,no support.......!Please forgive me my broken english.God bless you.
I know they need to help more, as everyone this day shouldn’t be hungry going to bed, but you have to choose now feed children n pups ir yourself, but foods gettin more £ but I’ll always choose my kids n dogs over me .
Some of these people are taking the piss. Stephen was spending £15 to £20 A DAY on booze.HE IS TAKING THE PISS OUT OF THE FOOD BANK and those that donate.
I am on benefits through ill health. When my television went bang a few years ago I made the decision not to try and get another one so now I save on the licence fee. No smoking and the only drugs are the ones prescribed for my condition. I cope not well but I cope.
makes me think about something I watched on all you can eat buffets, the amount of food wasted and just thrown away was unbelievable and sickening. I just kept thinking someone's hungry someone is starving it truly bothered me...all the consumer waste and people are suffering. When you see clothes by companies being burned rather than discounted or given to the poor...so many clothes that even third world countries are swimming in them but are starving 😑 the state of things all over the world is sickening! Consumerism and fashion is a sickness all the focus is on things, bigger, better, faster, more!!! rather than our communities as a whole. meaning homeless and seniors the vulnerable.. children.
What an absolute eye opener, I am a single dad myself with no family or friends around me, it’s true what the guy says “as long as his kid is happy, he is happy” amazing ❤
Why don´t the Tesco or Asda supermarkets donate their left-over foods ? ...there is so much wasted and the people who need it most should have access to their surplus!
Many of these supermarkets lock up their bins to make sure homeless people cant go routing through them after hours, some even go to the effort of purposefully spoiling the food to make sure its unusable. My wife knows of a charity called GOOD WILL.........if they have donated clothes they feel they are unable to sell, they throw them in the bin, but before doing so, they slash the clothes with a knife to make sure poor people cant ''steal'' them out of them bin, this is in America.
I work for Tesco and we don’t throw anything out. We sell them discounted to the customer, if they don’t buy it we offer it to the foodbanks if the food banks don’t want the type of food we’re offering they offer it to employees for 1p-10p. Only then will they throw out food. After everyone has said they don’t want it.
IwantAgoodCleanFight sorry for all the separate comments I’ve made, just trying to get my point across that the companies do their bit now due to public pressure.
Wow Robbie is so handsome AND kind AND smart/in-school AND a hard worker and all at 19! Wow, that man is the whole package right there and I wish him the best! :-)
The parents in this show are remarkable - all that going on and still doing everything they can to make their kids lives normal and putting them first.
I really like the dad and snowman-hat boy. My dad was a single father to my brother and me for a couple of years. I really think single dad's often end up being the best parents.
sad to see some of the comments here. thankful i live in a town where people truly do try to help others. we have a food bank where they do not care about anything other than you show up at only one of the food banks on state register. Show up if you need help . the woman starting it has the local grocery stores connected with volunteers picking up goods, small restaurants sometimes donate soups , grants with companies sending either food or money to buy , local farmers Or residents with extra produce, so that anyone showing up will find vegetables, fruits, truly more fresh food than anything. milk , eggs sometimes, yogurt, its on the honor system so yes someone could say they are feeding 4 rather than 1 but thats really rare . most showing up truly need food and all are grateful.
I only fear what strain COVID-19 has placed and will continue to place on institutions such as this. I went to University near Stoke for 4 years, and the level of poverty was staggering...
Watching in 2023, sad to see things are not any better. I hope the lads got themselves sorted. Such a sad experience with his mother passing and then being thrown out.:( x
In my town the people who don't qualify for benefits used to be able to buy harvest baskets for 20Usd.. And theyd give you 40in food. But they stopped that. So now i make .25cents OVER THE LIMIT because i work.. But i dont qualify for any help. Its so hard to feed my kids. 3 kids. Had a company. Never thought we'd ever need help. We always did the helping.
Huge amounts of money are spent on catering and work lunches every day. I'm glad that there are people who employ talented and well qualified chefs so that they can practice and improve their art. Goes for any profession, especially the arts.
Charlie is as high as a kite. Charlie has no money to pay for drugs. Charlie gets two bags of food from the food bank. Charlie's food cupboards are empty. Anyone want to guess what Charlie did with the free food? (Hint. Charlie is as high as a kite).
Charlie used a dirty needle, that's how he got hep c. I pray these people with addiction wake up and get clean, because there are gonna be more homeless people because of the rona, and that means less food. God bless.
Do you not wonder how Charlie got that addiction in the first place? Do you not see that Charlie doesn't get help with his addiction, do you not see that you're judging someone on something they have trouble controlling? Do you not see that excluding someone because of something you don't agree with is part of the problem?
When I looked at those empty cupboards I realised that he has no money for drugs whats another way to pay for drugs sell the food you have The way he was talking about that needle it sounded like he used a dirty one and caught whatever he caught
I used to work in one of the big supermarkets and personally I was appaled by just how much food was being thrown away in the dumpster at the end of the day, surely the manager could have got in touch with a local foodbank and ask if he could find use for it.
I worked for a well known convenience store chain and the wastage thrown out was incredible especially bread. It wasn't uncommon to throw out between 20-30 loaves a night. Me and another staff member approached our manager about donating the food to a food back or reduce it dramatically at the end of the night. We were told no because it would put off people buying the bread at the normal price eating into his profit margin. Unbelievable! Stuff was chucked that was perfectly edible it made me mad.
Its a mine field apparently - someone somewhere sued someone bacause they got food poisoning from donated food so they are not quite so keen now to just donate just everything at the end of the day - being out of the chill in transit and no control about how its stored afterwards or when its given out - it sounds simple enough but its not - like everything else in life
It's not always their fault and yes I agree sanctions should be illegal. There should be less tolerance of lazy drunks though. They shouldn't be given money and should get vouchers for clothes/food.
@@Silverado1234 I am sure there are many occasions where sanctions make sense. Say an unemployed person does not turn up for an appointment and does not have a reason. Well that 30 min slot or 1hour etc is lost and someone else could have got it, instead they are bumped back an hour x 10s of thousands of people thinking its no big deal to miss appointments. That is a real cost and so sanctioning is 100% the correct thing to do.
@@anyexpat or you could just skip that meeting. It's not a big deal as if they're getting 100K. Obviously there's a line but I agree a select very very few should be sanctioned. What does sanctioning achieve? Child poverty and crime?
@@anyexpat What does the meeting consist of? They get the bare minimum. I have been on benefits maybe 3 months of 25 years working and the meeting was just some doughnut asking a few pointless questions.
American point of view, but some of these people clearly need mental health help and massive job training. Back in the 1950s Great Britain decided it was morally wrong not to provide health care for all their citizens. Looks like they might need to tackle the food and heating crisis with the same determination.
@@anyexpat I get your point however I think you would incentivise crime. There's always going to be an underclass but they should be able to have a the bare minimums. And companies should have to reward hard work appropriately.
Foodbanks generate their own demand. If people know there is free food available, WHY would they spend money on food when there are fags, cider and drugs to be bought.
So heartbreaking to see the havoc that drug addiction, especially from a very young age, wreaks on peoples lives and in their communities. You feel quite helpless looking at the sheer scale of the problem.
Food "pantry" I know of in Australia take donations but the people wanting the food have to pay $40 for it. It's a week's worth of food. But you still have to pay the $40 no freebies or food vouchers accepted.
The fact is none of this should be happening. There is more than enough for everyone. The powers that be must retain their power, so this is the result. Also, God bless that single father. THAT is a good man.
The problem I have with his story is that he claims to have no food but is clearly overweight. At 7:10 he also says he lives in a big house and he also has a dog (I can’t afford to have a dog). In my experience the majority of people who use food banks do so to save money and spend it on luxury items (latest smart phones, games consoles & cigarettes). And I’m sorry but missing an appointment which happens once a fortnight when you don’t work is pathetic.
@@SRPC21 fair comment about the dog (expensive dog too, not a mongrel) but moving house is very expensive and you need a huge deposit so it's probably impossible for him to move! 🤷🏻♀️
@@SRPC21 What if it's a Tuesday morning and you're really hungover because you were wasted? Ever thought about that. Not everyone can make it every 2 weeks. Or you have lazy bastarditious and can't get up before noon.
Like minimum wage we should have a maximum wage. Politicians should stop giving themselves 10%+ pay rises every other year. Austerity should end and the rich pay more tax because they caused the problem with the banks in 2008.
Unfortunately the ‘rich’ didn’t cause the 2008 bank failure - lending to minimum wage earners at interest rates they couldn’t afford allowed the entire system to collapse. Yes, there should be a cap on public office increases - no politician deserves a 10% increase in a year, but capping a wage means soon, everyone will be taxed excessively since there will be no outliers to contribute. There comes a point where everyone will decide to ‘screw the system’ and ensure they are on minimum wage too, deciding its not worth the effort since there is no reward. Remove the carrot and remove the motivation. Think of every recession as a redistribtuion of assets - into the hands of thr mega rich who are in a position to benefit at that time.
@@1588chrissy , No Chrissy , if you look deeper into the 2008 bank failure, it was the greed of the Rich and the self serving polititions , the greed of the bank managers , the Manipulation , lies , and misapropreation of funds that the managers of the bank profited from with 7 figure wage packets ..My thoughts are with all the the tax contributions that are being mismanaged , manipulated, by the self serving polititions .. Corruption is wide spread , and the poor and sick are paying for it !!!
It so food companies can cover their asses. They lean on the safe side of "best before" (usually few days before actual spoilage date) so they dont risk getting sued.
I see several people crying about food who chose to buy cigarettes first. I'm sure the same goes for alcohol. I've volunteered at food banks in the US for over 10 years and we have some of that too. Wasteful they are so strict on making sure things are in date. Canned food doesn't instantly go bad on the date listed, nor do biscuits, chips and most of the foods you get now. We don't give out very outdated food but as long as it's in good edible condition we give it out regardless of the date
It’s something I’ve always really wanted to get involved with, the food banks in terms of volunteering. It’s a sense of being a decent human and helping other who maybe don’t have much.
22 thousand food parcels a year to 3 million a year now under the Tories. Everything cut, yet spent more money to make people's lives worse. Their mates got rich though.
This is a sin...no one anywhere in the world should go without God given basic necessities like clothes, food, water and shelter. Period. Now if you want extra stuff or a luxury item that's on you, but this food crisis is un necessary, ridiculous, out of control and wrong.
From what I've seen it's not uncommon and the hours and pressure often lead to self-medication with drugs just to keep going. Seems like a really unhealthy environment.
I believe there are food banks everywhere, Canada, US! Homelessness is everywhere, something is not working, the haves and the have nots. I never considered my family poor but if my Dad's pay didn't make it to the end of the week we ate porridge.
My heart goes out to all you people with hardship. Unfortunately my business is the other side the world and any food i can give u blessed people would be very difficult to deliver over such a vast distance. 🤔
Some should try getting a job and working hard at it. Not all but many are lazy and spend money on drink and drugs. Look at Charlie .... lying baghead. Don't take drugs if you can't afford them .
I WONDER HOW MANY OF THE 250 PEOPLE THAT WERE LAID OFF HAVE WATCHED THESE VIDEOS AND MADE NASTY HATEFUL COMMENTS AND NOW THEY ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION GOING TO FOODBANKS? PEOPLE REALLY THINK JOB SECURITY EXIST...THERE IS NO JOB SECURITY !!! AND PEOPLE WANT COMPASSION WHEN ITS THEM ...AND ONLY WHEN ITS THEM ...
these dads are doing a fantastic job . they should be proud of themselves being a parent is hard enough as it is but having no money or food and the extra stress would drive me and many mad , so keep doing what your doing xx
The EU could stop sending food to food mountains in order to keep prices high, they could end protectionism on products or we could leave the custom union and lower food by 20%
Well we should be seeing this 20% reduction very soon. Just remember it was you that said it, I'm still fairly confident food prices will go through the roof, as that is what happens when you have no trading partners.
Had to use the food bank once, am not going in to why, but I have never forgot how much they helped, since then I have never forgot and I always pop in and donate something.
Food is too expensive in England it's ridiculous I've been living in France for 26 years I went back to England 2 years ago I was shocked at food prices compared to here in France
Interesting, I have a house in Taormina in Sicily. When i come back to the UK the typical supermarket shop in the UK is around 30% to 40% cheaper than in Italy.
From the fact you've managed to type it phonetically makes me think you know what they're saying pretty much but aye, "I got made redundant on December 31st. I've got no money to last me. I live in a really big house and it's hard to heat"
It’s sad ☹️ I live in Dundee the two guys Steven I banned both off them from we’re I work it’s bad time I donate to food 🥘 banks 🏦 it’s really bad we’re I live but you struggle on the volunteers are fantastic people total respect to them
