This book blends perfectly with the material we covered in Wemhof and in the Gladio books. I also highlight parallels with Dune, Dune 2 and Dune Messiah and how providential the release of Dune 2 was with the themes in this book. Really cool video. One thing I find interesting: the discipline the Bene Gesserit teach is called "Prana Bindu". This is taken from Yoga; "prana" meaning "breath/energy" and "Bindu" meaning "point". Yogis use breathing techniques (Pranayama) to access altered states of consciousness. Today, they are being rediscovered in the West (Wim Hof Breathing, Andrew Huberman, etc).

watching the movie, all I could think about was the irony of of creating “false prophecy” but because enough people genuinely believe in it, that it actually manifests into a real phenomenon. Thus making it irrelevant that it or is “made up” propaganda.

Chani came off as the progressive enlightened feminist woman who can see past religion and is trying to free everyone from the chains of religion. They made her seem like the good character over against everyone else

Not really, she kind of is just a stand in for the fremen from the book who are against Paul and she also works as a voice for the audience because of the fact that Paul's own doubts and inner monologue can't be depicted in the movie.

@@JacobsLadderToTruth I agree it's not as good, but I think they really wanted to emphasise Paul choosing politics and power over love to heighten the tragedy and drama. I didn't like it at first but now I'm just kinda eh. It's definitely the worse of the movie changes.

@@little_priestnah, that is completely made up. We aren’t bothered, because in the book, Alia is clearly only conscious because of the Water of Life and the Reverend Mother transition. Which is 100% science fiction.

Thanks Jay. I’m buying and binging your paid halves next month. I’m finally almost caught up with all your free halves of the geopolitical books. AMAZING coverage bro. It genuinely freaks me out to think we almost missed out on this amazing analysis over the years. Transhumanism and political philosophy are my subjects, so the narrative and objectives laid out over the course of the many books you cover provides a really interesting layer to the typical academic understanding of these subjects. You could almost teach an entire degree program based upon this vast series of transhumanist, atlanticist, and other elite authors. It just goes to show how much of a kindergarten version of geopolitics and “international relations” the rest of the polite academic world is working with. I constantly come across people who refuse to believe that major things can be hidden from academia by the State.

As I sat watching the film, all I could think of is how deceptive false prophets come to be. How they are convinced by inner desires, fail in belief of purity, fall to spirits that are not their own and conflict knowingly with the highest morality from God inside us all. We see this with Pauls submittance to the devil when he gives up and flees to the South.

Very well said. However, the last thing you mentioned may not be quite right. Some of these prophets, I believe, are quite convinced that they're serving God. I think it tends to be their immediate successors who knowingly violate the highest morality.

Unless you are a prophet or a false prophet you can only observe it believe what you think you know. Characters written within stories are not necessarily accurate representations of reality. Most are probably what a write wants people to believe.

The spiritual nature of the desert where the demons/djin live is also present in this. You ever seen this as a warning, the Fremen leader warns Paul "beware of the djin don't listen to them." The djin in this case being the visions he sees from the spice

I would say it just doesn't deal with the issue of the truth claims of Christianity. Herbert definitely was not anti Christian when he wrote Dune.

Didn't like it as much as first part. Wasn't as well told visually. Plus they try to reach for Herbert original intent of "messianic stories are dangerous/bad" Which Herbert failed at and spent 6 books backpedaling. But these writers weren't nearly talented as Herbert so it comes off as stupid and ad hoc. It's like them understanding how something happens changes it.

Dune is basically the story of how false prophets come to be. You feel it too with the movie. They all fall into manipulation of their own desires ie spirits and the demons.

For one, Aquinas says to revere Islamic sites is apostasy. Anyone who can't see this is blind. It's also forbidden in the ancient canons for clerics to pray with heterodox.

Quite surprised you like this film. I found the idea of honourable quasi muslim mujaheddin who live in caves with no resources whatsoever but seem to have extremely advanced technologies who accept their females to have 21st century western European sexual ethics and blaspheme their religious sentiments beyond ridiculous

Did they have advanced technologies in this movie? From what i remember of the book, advanced weaponry couldn't be used in warfare anymore because of the disastrous interaction between laser weapons and shields (maybe an allusion to nuclear weapons ending technological warfare?). Since shields could only be defeated in hand to hand combat it meant that paradoxically in this futuristic universe warfare returned to a more medieval standard where the physical prowess of the soldier is what mattered most and the Fremen excelled in this because they were tempered by the brutal enviorment of their planet, much like the Sardaukar (who i think had grown a little soft due to the excess of material wealth their prestige in battle awarded to them). That, and of course the fact the Fremen were trained in the weirding way by Paul, which meant a single Fremen soldier outclassed any other soldier the same way 15 year old Paul outclassed an adult Fremen veteran in a duel.
