the alternate timeline is such a great choice and really has the chance to emphasize the importance of the original story but also be impactful and iconic

I think it's time now to show a gameplay video, real gameplay, played live, pad/keyboard in hand, and not scripted for a trailer.. Almost two years have passed now, the words and the premises are beautiful, I love everything you have said so far guys, but, now I would like to see some concreteness, or the beginning of it, please ♥
We totally understand wanting to see more. The Dune universe is so rich with lore and we want to get it right. If it helps, we will be showing a full gameplay reveal at Gamescom - that's only two months away! We hope you can wait a little bit longer. 😊

@@82automan I disagree. By doing the alternate timeline thing you show *ultimate* respect to the authors work by *not* changing it. Any concessions they have to make due to it being a video game, you can explain by it being in an alternate timeline, while leaving the true canon alone.
depends how sneaky you are I guess. Deep Desert literally is the pvp area.... so mandatory?.. no. Extremely likely... yes. You will have to avoid it based on your own skill and strategy of sneaking and running away. There is an initial safe area when you enter though
Honestly after seeing how many games have flopped because they were rushed i really appreciate that this game is taking its time. This would also make some of the prequel books a lot more relevant since all the politics would look similar to them.
Bruh y’all need to calm down and just be patient, I’m hopeful that it will be a good game they seem to really care about the world and story. I just want the game to get the love it deserves and I hope they deliver. I’m patiently waiting and beyond excited to try the beta when it’s ready. It’s always better to have a finished product than a rushed product.
Did the emperor not provide Sardaukar forces for the Harkonnens’ attack on Arrakeen in this timeline? It would seem odd for Leto to not call out the emperor on that if he was involved.
@@emillarsson1299wouldn’t the emperor still fear Leto as an inspiring figure that could usurp the emperor? Even if Gaius wouldn’t need to “correct” Jessica’s decision, the emperor should still have motivation to be rid of Leto.
@@FrostycryptonGaius would still have wanted Jessica's daughter to wed with Feyd-Rautha, iirc. She is still vital to the Kwisatz Haderach program. Gaius would have tried and swayed/reasoned with Shaddam from annihilating the Atreides. Plus, Irulan's loyalty to the Sisterhood would have made it quite easy for Shaddam to listen to her if he ever distrusts Gaius' advice. Not saying this is what would have played out, it's just my thoughts afterall, but it's 15 years of being talked out of destroying the Atreides as opposed to 15 years of a Reverend Mother whispering to you that the Atreides are a threat to the throne (because of Jessica's defiance to the Sisterhood).
Im guessing duke leto would have had more time considering the value of his daughter in this timeline, allowing him more time to gather strength with the fremen.
@@emillarsson1299 in that case Atreides family would never be sent to Dune. The while point of sending them to Dune was to drag them from their home planet to kill them off easy. Funcom's timeline makes no sense.
I fully expect future content to be going out of Arrakis and into different planets like Caladan. Because it would get very stale to see just sand and desert lol

Guess we'll find out in-game, but Im curious as to why the Fremen have disappeared? I know you've changed the timeline for an alternate one, but I would think the Fremen would still be there protecting their territory whether a boy or girl had been born to come lead them as the Legend has Prophesied.
The fremen will remain an important culture in Dune: Awakening. Their impact on Arrakis will be visible, either in locations they used to inhabit, or messages they may have left behind. Follow the clues and discover the truth in your journey across the game.
I think it would be cool since this is an alternative time line to see how it connects back to the original dune since the god emperor leto pretty much saw all and realized that his bloodline always was and always will be. It would be really cool to see the new daughter of Jessica fall in love with a ferman and produce the new Lisan al Gaib.

The way that the server architecture is described in this video, makes me think of games like Escape from Tarkov. I am holding out until a real video of the gameplay loop comes out, so it is less my imagination and more proof of how this will play. However, please don't let this be a Spice Themed extraction shooter :( Unless I missed it being discussed elsewhere - How will base persistence work as a gameplay mechanic? Over on Hagga Basin it sounds similar to server survival games like Conan & Ark. What about The Deep Desert - will it just get wiped away with the reset making Hagga Basin our hub where we want to build?

"Don't worry - You're NOT locking yourself into a class or archetype" - ...well that's really too bad, because hard choices drive meaningful decisions and effective builds, that's exactly what makes RPGs meaningful - what does it matter what your starting skill and class is then? If you can just shift anytime, pick any other skill, train in any other discipline? Outside of the aesthetics, it just means that skills and classes and character creation choices don't mean anything. Also, you really didn't answer the questions about server structure at all - "many many hundreds of players on multiple maps" what does that mean exactly? what are the server limitations? how many maps? if maps are "full" does that mean I can't get in? IN other words, is this going to be an actual MMO where everyone is playing in a single same game world on their regional server? ie. asia server, europe server, etc. and all players on that server play together on the same maps in the same game "instance"? OR, will it be a pseudo MMO where there are multiple "instances" running on the same server, and those instances have population limits, and so you can be on the same server, same map, but still not actually be playing with people on the same server/map who are in a different instance? "A large infrastructure of connected servers" okay, what does this mean for the actual gameplay experience though? Different "dimensions" and "areas" are mentioned - so does this mean "instances" after all then? You say that we will fly between locations on a separate "overworld map" which is it's own server? but it's just a top-down view of the "world map" with little ornithopter icons zooming from place to place.. so then we don't get to actually traverse a real world map, instead we use what is really just a form of fast travel to get from area map to area map? You mention that even the biggest map, the "Deep Desert", will have a player cap? so I simply can't go there if it's "full"? This is sounding more and more like pseudo-MMO stuff.
I’ve been playing MMOs for a while and I cannot wait to hop into my journey to become a Fremen, and hopefully bring peace to Arrakis. Ready to lead the factions that will follow me, and those that will not will be lead to paradise.
First and most important question for me - is a offline Singleplayer possible, like in Conan: Exiles ? I don't want some human player to ruin my immersion by giving themselves a ridiculous rubbish name that floats above their head as they sprint and jump through the crowd to the next instance raid. -.- Oh well... And Paul was 15 years old in the actual timeline when the Battle of Arrakeen took place. Was Jessica 5 years pregnant with you or why is her decision after conception exactly 20 years before the battle? 😀

My point is that it was said here that between Jessica's decision to give birth to a boy/girl (shortly after conception) and the point on the timeline where the child born was 15 years old according to the book, a span of 20 years has passed on the timeline depicted. This is simply wrong in terms of the years.
There is zero mention of anything to do in this game other than gather spice with many friends. Forced group content is a fools errand. Even Warcraft would be long gone if this was the majority of their content.
Hopefully the tech is better than Conan Exiles, which I wanted to love, but the janky PvE and other issues had me turn away after a while (the base building was awesome though).
I wish they introduced sex selection and based on that, your childhood mentor options are limited. Like…it doesn’t make sense for what is, in essence a man, to be trained by a Bene Gesserit? They don’t train men?
Conan Exiles is not being sunsetted any time soon. We have separate development teams for both games, and Conan Exiles will still see regular content updates.
The Overland Map feels kinda cheap. While it's understandable that each areas have to be connected, I just wished that we could appreciate that in 3D with the same level of immersive graphics initialy unveiled rather than this aerial synthetic view to connect all point of interests.
Unfortunately, unless you want to wait another eight years for them to crack the code of full-scale, modifiable planets like Star Citizen, it must be this way.

At Gamescom, if you do show gameplay like you say you are. We need to see combat, open world, and Sandworm's. I could care less about the building mechanics right now. I want to see legitimate combat mechanics because from all you've shown, I have a hard time believing this game to be as grand as you say it is going to be

So so so much wrong with this. Dune is a tough IP, it's hard enough to capture the heartand soul of it in film, but to capture the grandiosity, the scope, the pageantry alone- of a dynastic, feudel space opera set 34,000 years in the future, with deeeeeeeeeeeeep and complex lore (being esentially what the Dune books represent)- and include or encompass all the things we would want to do in this universe, is impossible. #1. You cannot play a Fremen. DEALBREAKER. That is literally the first character I would have made. Limiting your background/lineage/caste etc. to FIVE worlds that DON'T include Arrakis, the planet on which every film, and TV adaptation, as well as the First book and change and THIS ENTIRE GAME it seems, all take place on? *facepalm* Ya know that massive desert planet full not just eponymous sandy hills, ancient civilization, oil-errr I mean Spice Melange- that all the 'verse wars over because of its value due to our hopeless addiction to utilizing it in everything like to TRANSPORT ourselves and GOODS and ARMIES anywhere as it's needed for virtually all of our cars, trucks, planes, cargo ships-errr I mean ornithopters, catterpiller rovers, and Heighliner starships that send all our shit around the universe, and is also used in the manufacturing of computer- err Mentats- and is found on this planet occupied by huge military forces of outsiders seeking to control this resource? This planet with an ancient, beautiful, and rich historied, proud, incredibly deadly culture of Bedouin-errrr Fremen. These desert warriors of unparalleled skill that give House Harkonnen and all who have occupied before them SERIOUS trouble, who have SURVIVAL SKILLS (for a survival MMO? nah), stealth, infiltration and coersion capabilities, a deep system of spiritual and sacred beliefs and truths, a close quarters or hand-to-hand martial arts dominance (PRE-them being taught Prana Bindu), Cris knives, Stillsuits, and oh yeah! They ride Shai Hulud and have spice pumping through their veins. No one would want to play that, right? Sounds like a dev teams terrified, scrambling director juggling unrealistic expectations, making a game worth more than a piece of dog shit, and keeping their team alive and sane and employed. Having to please their corporate overlords that decide what the game is or isn't and how quickly it should be shat out, not unlike the one that owns Frank Herbert's Dune IP (Fox I would imagine?) and hired this dev team... Speaking of shit, that brings me to number 2. #2. Alternate timeline... THE FREMEN ARE MISSING, FIND THEM!? SERIOUSLY? Eradicated the greatest civilization and made them some hidden plot point inacessible to players. Since when is a Revered Mother the transparently motivated femme fatale client of a private detective-novel? Why would you be tested? You'd be tested if you were Bene Gesserit, or held by tribunal, in secret, to extract inforation because you were a spy, assassin or something of the sort that was getting in the way of their careful plans (they're the CIA and have no problem with toruturin-errr I mean rendition). So everyone's background is a BeneGesserit spy no matter what you pick from your characters already limited background choices now railroading you into this one character path for an MMO? Why is a Reverend Mother even speaking to you at all if you aren't playing a Bene Gesserit? Doesn't make sense, does it? It sure ain't because you're like Paul Atredes, and designed over centuries of breeding to unite the houses and bring about peace, but were born the wrong sex right? It wouldn't be that, right? Because Paul wasn't supposed to be a male at all and centuries upon centuries of careful genetic manipulation by influencing, coersion, breeding, assassination, torture, and power brokering with,or annihilating, entire civilizations of people who got in the way of those plans, on top of having the ear of the Padishah Emperors of the known universe for thousands of generations, and to put a Bene Gesserit bred super woman on (or behind it as the true hidden, shadow master) that throne. and his presence being such a huge afront to their careful work. Paul would have been killed in utero along with Jessica, were she not Bene Gesserit herself. So it can't be that, RIGHT? RIGHT??????? Or learn the ways of the Fremen, so become a Fremen without having the option of being a Fremen. This is all the same problem. "We want to preserve the legacy" In making this alternate timeline you are treashing the legacy right there fucking shitbrained corporate fuckboi. #3. Animation sucks. Very few character cretion customization vsually nevermind being railroaded into motivations.Taken all sense of agency AWAY fromplayers and then tout that you have "tons of character custommization options?? WHERE? WHERE WERE THOSE? The The main plot railroad/fetch quest giver Reverend Mother and your character looked janky a hell, quickly slapped-together in that seconds long character intro with terribly stiff facial taxonomy and animation worse than Star Wars: KOTOR which is 22 years old now. Like, free Unreal Engine assets and Metahuman, and other AI driven UE plugins do a lot of that work for you, and I was figuring some Mocap would be on the table as they were touting using UE5 and the same stuff that was used in Denis Villeneuves films in the first reveal of this smoke and mirrors that I am predicting will be exactly what it smells like; the evermore stinking pile of steaming brown stuff. They were bragging about using the UE5 tech they had licensed but then they have stiff, first XBOX era, in-engine footage that is two seconds long? They ain't got shit except bad decisions about game genre, mismanaged advertising for it, and Reverend Mom's janky tits that go clackety-clack. #3.Survival MMO? No talk about crafting or survival systems, task resolution, tiers, or game footage pre-rendered or erstwhile about this "Survival MMO" (sounds like another corporate decision that looked at Ark and said "Do that, because it worked for those guys it'll work for us-" WRONG! Due to SO SO MANY REASONS , too many to list but largely the incredibly careful balance of things you need to do to get a survival MMO to be popular and successful, it doesn't just happen with a beloved IP and this is trash looks A basic premade character template adjuster that has less features than some 10 plus year old games. This is hot trash, I never comment on shit but I can't stand aside while Funcom quietly destroys a beloved story and IP with some garbage ego-manical alternate timeline that corporations seek to cash in on thinking they undertand fans. WRONG AGAIN FUCKWiTS
