alright so, ill answer some of the question: 1. Paul's mom is Leto's concubine, to make it seems like he is available for political marriage 2. Ranged weapons are ineffective againt shield users. They are however, sometime used as certain targets do not use shields (ex: Fremens) 3. Duncan have to stay behind to prevent the enemy from using laser as long as possible. If laser make contact with shields, it would make a large, non-nuclear explosion comparable to MOAB (Mother of All Bomb). This could endanger Paul and his mother. 4. The tiny insect drone (i forgot the name of) only reacts to motion, as referenced in the book. 5. im pretty sure Arakeen (the capital city) is built on foundation of rocks. shield walls are there for additional security. Harvester cannot use shields however, as they are too small, and the worm would just eat the entire shield along with it.

@@russman3787 "Protects the city from the desert, and the worm." is a phrase that lead me to believe there are outer perimeter of shields in the movie, as it would make sense to at least have some shields to protect the city from storm debris that made it over the wall but yeah, in the book "Shield wall" is just a rock formation thats 4.5km tall. the depiction of it in the movie is pretty confusing for me

The shield wall is a mountain range, however; arakeen had shields from orbital bombardment. It's a major plot point yueh disabled them.

the thin that makes that shield wall thing even more confusing in the movies is that in the second one they use those against the people which is forbiddenin the books. In the book they use them to break through the shield wall + shields which is important as this means that the great convention doesnt apply there.

also in the book it says if the one lasers that we see destroying the ships outside in that scene hits a shield it causes both the person with the shield and whatever shot the shield to blow up in a huge explosion.

@@wrenkaplan4742The book says it COULD cause an explosion and the explosion is either on the shield side or gun side. You never know if it'll happen and on what end, that's what makes it so dangerous. Otherwise it could be more easily weaponized. Also the explosions are basically indistinguishable from nukes so it's very taboo.

1. The drone called hunter-seeker reacts only to motion. Hence, when Paul stands still, it doesn't detect him. 2. Paul's mother is a concubine for political reasons that would be advantageous for House Atreides

The scene could've been better. Paul was standing still in the hologram and the Hunter-seeker flew straight at his location, but stopped right before hitting him, as if it knew he was there.

Riddle me this.... why do the minor vibrations of the shields attract worms but OTHER worms don't attract worms? The worms are loud as shit when they swim through the sands and it makes no sense that a 400m long worm would give 2 fucks about some dude with a shield 3 miles away but completely ignore another worm (which is their only natural predator) 5-6 miles away.

@@reesespieces8173that's the thing, the canonical reason sandworms attack anything that makes a rhythmic noise is because they are cannibalistic and they are listening for other sandworms to eat. Regarding the loudness of other worms compared to shields, keep in mind that worms live in drum sand, which amplifies noise massively. More than likely, the shields are actually louder than a sandworm on its own

The thing about the Shields is you can't use them on the planet Dune because they'll just attract the Sandworms, which will eat you. !Another thing is If someone shoots you with a plasma gun or whatever kind of ordinance they use, it will not only cause you to explode. It will cause the person who shot you to explode and it will cause a massive explosion from your shield blowing up

@@Szokynyovics It is exactly like an atomic bomb and while it explains while they are using medieval melee weapons, it's also one of the dumbest ideas in the lore because everyone and everything using a shield would be a prime target for a suicide bomber which the fremen 100% are. In fact, in the second book some terrorist does just that.

@@maximpikalev9538possibly neither, it might be referencing the fact that the shields don't follow Newton's first law of motion, as anything that touches them gets slowed down, but still kinda keeps its momentum. or maybe I'm just reading too much into this, and he really does reference non-newtonian fluids, as the most well known one (starch/water mixture) stops things that move fast, but not slow moving things, just like the shields.

Fun fact regarding @5:10 - "Paul isn't sweaty, wtf" I lived for quite a while (2+ years) both in tropical and desert climates. And I'm your typical, run of the mill, very average build, middle european white guy that will sweat a lot in these climates. When I have to do any physical work sweat is running into my eyes in minutes (being bald doesn't help here either). If I was in Pauls place here, I wouldn't have visible sweat on my head either. In these climates I'd sweat in my armpits, back and groinal area like no tomorrow but as long as I'm not also physically active my head wouldn't be sweaty.

there is another thing here to note. Swear is rarely visible in dry climates becuase it immediately evaporates. Only in tropical climates is sweat extremely visible

1. The difference between the shields and the one in the city is that the one shielding the city is actually not a shield, if you listen carefully it’s called the “Shield Wall”, which is basically a bunch of rocks and man made walls and shit that keeps the worms from getting to the city, whereas the personal ones they use are force fields 2. Paul’s mom isn’t “married” to the Duke to allow him to marry someone else’s daughter to form alliances (see medieval europe), she’s just a member of his concubine

8:32 as far as I know from this and part 2 yes, the shield does have to be touching the ground to piss off the worm, because several times ornithopters (mosquito planes) are shown with shields activated and worms do not come.

Well it makes sense, coz in the book sandworms hunt by detecting vibrations and the shield generates ultrasonic (or shit like that) frequency which attracts them. So if no shield on ground, you are not sending vibrations thru san so no sandworm :D

Yes, the suits do piss too, and I think the drone attacks motion, idk I read the books a while ago. As for the shielded city, yes, I think it's because the worms can only swim through sand. No they're not married, she's a concubine. They missed something, in the duel your not supposed to wear your still suit, they're hard to fix and can be given to someone else. Another cool fact, who ever wins gets whatever water they harvest from the body.

Haven't finished the book yet, but Duke Leto and Jessica aren't married cuz of political reasons, not really cuz she's not highborn. Some aristocrats/royalty do have Bene Gesserit spouses, so it's not as if BG aren't allowed to be the legal wives. It's just that for future political alliances, Leto can't marry Jessica. Also. Bloodlines are hard to trace in the BG unless you're way up the ladder, so Jessica could have easily been some duke's unknown daughter...And that would make her nobility as well...

12:50 Duncan mainly closed the door and slowed down the sardaukar, because of their lasguns Lasguns in Dune can basically cut through anything like butter and you even see them almost hit Paul before Duncan gets back up like a chad. If he had just run with them, the sardaukar would have cut away the door quickly and chased them before they could take off

And with how common lasguns are and how useless normal guns because of the shields they’ve been phased out and no lasguns are used for fear of that explosion since nukes are prohibited by the emperor.
