Dungeon Crawl Classics - Deep Dive 

DCC is amazing I love it Glad you pointed out Hubris it is one of the most badass and useful books you can get and use for any game so much detail, amazing charts you can use in any game just for the tables alone it is worth it. I only wish more people knew about it came out over 6 years ago and DCC has grown so much since then. I am one very much for that Grimdark, blood and mud feel and I love the DCC feel with the almost sillness you really can see it with the magic system.

DCCRPG is among my favorite systems. Thanks for this honest and straightforward assessment and I totally understand that "it's not going to please everyone". Really, what game system does please everyone? Fortunately we have choices. DCCRPG hits a personal bullseye and even the magcian's page flipping magic sets well with my concept of arcane casters who are tied to their spell books. The other classes all have equally distinct mechanical aspects. I think it all works rather nicely to give the table a certain unique game world "vibe". The funnel is a great gimmick and I think it makes a point about the game's values, but I find DCCRPG really shines once the characters get to levels 3-5 when they can leverage their full class ability potential. Yes, DCCRPG is all a bit gonzo, but it's also not "just another vanilla fantasy superhero d20 game". I prefer a system that has some personality baked into the rules and I do not find grim, deadly, or dark tones off putting. Obviously, YMMV Cheers!

I have printed out a few of the tables and have them posted on my DM screen. Monster crits, fumbles, etc. I give each player their crit chart printed out and I write the spell page number on their list. That and I bought a half pound of the funky dice for whoever to use and I run the fire out of DCC!

Love the DCC style and vibe, but a bit too crunchy for my taste.
