FAQ This pinned comment is going to have answers to any commonly asked questions. Also check out the Dungeondraft discord server to report bugs and get more info: discord.gg/6Ak9sZQ Q) WHY DOES MY MAP EXPORT WITH WHITE LINES AROUND THE WALLS? A) This is a known bug. For now, place small objects around the map on the 200 user layer, this will clear the white lines of nearby walls.
I just downloaded dungeondraft and I couldn't use doors nor windows. I may select them, but they don't appear in the map after I click. I couldn't delete any wall either. Can you help me?
I'm loving Dungeondraft. It's very handy during a 10 minute break when players go off the rails and wind up someplace unplanned and still have a fantastic map. Are there any plans to add a directional, ambient light with parallel rays to cast shadows from objects onto the ground or other surfaces? I'm manually adding shadow elements, and it's pretty tedious work...or does this already exist and I'm just missing it?
I use an old TV too, but half the group is online & the other is IRL. Its great. The IRL half uses physical minis placed over the digital token. We use Foundry vtt to combine everything
When I bought this software a few hours ago, I was not expecting it to be THIS good.... we really live in a spoiled time with amazing tools like these haha
So i was curious about the Dungeon Draft, on the fence about buying in. Well, you sold me once you pointed out that it can be exported for roll20. thank you for the in depth video
@@IcarusGames I've literally just made my first map after watching the video! Made a simple abandoned barn, and looking forward to making more reusable encounter maps!
An excellent example of a much-reused map would be a "Crossroads Inn", pretty much just a '4-way' intersection, but to change the season, lighting, etc very easily this same map could be used for so many different encounters :o)
Thanks man, Ive finally put my hands on this program, and with your tutorial the only stuff I wished was a lot of time to prepare all thoose little maps for campaigns I run XD
Fantastic job, this software is incredible, and works flawlessly with roll 20, I can now make my own maps instead of aligning grids from google images and hoping it doesn't look too pixelated
This is excellent! I was trying to figure out what tool to get and you sold me - this is exactly what I am looking for but on steroids. Any you show how flipping easy it is.
thanks for the video, i've bought Mapforge witch is a total mess, full of bug reported 2 years ago and none fixed at all, i was looking for a good programm for editing map and dungeon, so i've also taken Wondercraft because of your video, thanks !
Quick headsup, this video was so useful for me (along with the review which had to scatter terrain), I had to switch to VTT with the lockdown and was struggling to find free or ungridded maps. This looks perfect, right down to the hand drawn dyson esque style to just throw down my own. The one and done price is much more attractive than a subscription service. These guys should definately have you on commision. Looking foward to the boat video (anychance you can show us how to convert it into an eberron airship)
I have to say there is a lot of map making power in this program considering the $20 price! I just purchased about 3/4 of the way through your video and I’m gonna give it a shot. I’ve been struggling with other programs with a steep learning curve. Dungeondraft looks like the ticket. I’m gonna give it a try and I plan to come back and let you know how it went. Great video. Thank you
Thanks, Bob, I'm glad you've found the video useful. The biggest tip I have for you at this early stage of the beta process is to save often. There are still obviously bugs so you want to make sure a crash doesn't cause you to lose all your hard work!
@@IcarusGames Will do. Dungeondraft is my go-to mapper now. I also own Wonderdraft. I hope you will continue to add more features and symbols to these remarkable products.
This is a big help. I bought it the moment it was released (Wonderdraft is amazing and I knew this would be too), but I've been sitting on it while the bugs got worked out and waiting for my life to calm down. This will speed up my engagement a lot. If you're taking suggestions, I'm interested in learning how make shadows and if it's possible to create hills/elevation in outdoor maps. Thank you again! Keep up the excellent content.
Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful. I can cover elevation and shadows, definitely. Really briefly though: use the freestanding walls and place them beneath objects to get quick shadows. It doesn't work for everything but it's a halfway decent interim solution.
Been looking for a dungeon map maker and found your previous video. I've used Wonderdraft to create my campaign setting last year. I just picked this up the other day. Absolutely love it! Yeah it has some bugs and crashes on me occasionally. Just remember to save often. But still, it does soo much! Can't wait to start printing my dungeons at 11x17 and showing them to my group! Oh, and thanks for the videos.
Thanks for making this whole series of Wonderdraft/Dungeondraft vids. I recently got Wonderdraft and am about to get Dungeondraft because of them! As someone who primarily runs his games over Roll20, have you had much experience deciding between the lightning features on this program vs. the dynamic lighting of Roll20? Or do they work well together?
I haven't used a lot of roll20. I believe that dynamic lighting to be supported in VTTs is something that's planned with Dungeondraft, but at the moment I would stick with what you're comfortable with for lighting.
There goes my free time. This is the program I've been looking for and your Basics Tutorial video is on point at getting me started fast. I'm looking forward to getting started. I just bought Dungeondraft prior to watching the video. I stumbled across it in a credit article. Curious, My computer is not the newest and although very cool, the animated effects are a bit glitchy on my system. The river back is fine but I have random flashes of pixel trash throughout the rest of the map. A roll 20 user myself, I'm conscious of lag load. Is there a way to disable the animated effects? Keep in mind, this video is as far as I've delved and haven't imported anything into Roll20 yet.
If this was already covered and I missed it I apologize but with being able to drag and click assets could that mean I could upload a ton of asset png files I've gotten from other sellers for use in dungeondraft or am I limited to their library only? Secondly, if I could get sizing and format down etc this it is possible to print these maps? Assuming I have the option to print it on multiple sheets of paper.
It is totally possible to add custom assets to DD. You can either just drag in a PNG to create a linked image that you can then manually reszie and toggle the shadow on, or you can upload entire asset packs. I am actually working on a custom asset tutorial right now. If you just drag the image in, dungeondraft embeds the full size image, which makes the map file size absolutely massive. If you import them as an asset pack, it links the images, which keeps the map file size smaller.
Hello All, I am using this software to create a map for Traveler "Annic Nova" - and yes i can crate space ship as well :) how ever do you know is there is a easy way to hide par of the map? the idea is that I would like to run the game on a TV screen but I do not want my player to see the all map at first. Thanks all.
If you're using dungeondraft at the table, you can turn the ambient light all the way down, and then place light sources as the players progress to reveal areas of the map.
how do you find the scale? i have players that can shoot to like 800ft and i want to give them oportunity to do so. but i fintd most tools wont allow for bigger maps
Hi one and all just looking for a small bit of clarification, i have been dming for a while and just starting to make a homebrew came across you in releation to world building maps. My question is, we use a different table top gaming system to roll20 does it only export for that or is the export of roll20 just for all these types of software, and does it allow use of fog of war type pc movement where it would be able to be revealed as the pcs move through a dungeon or building during combat? Thank you to anyone who puts a response in advance :D
So dungeondraft is just a map making program, not a virtual tabletop (VTT) like roll20. You make your map in dungeondraft, and export it to use in roll20. Dungeondraft has a preset export option for roll20's grid size, but there are also other export presets so you could use the map in Fantasy Grounds, on a TV at the table, or elsewhere.
When you do a ship map, can you show how to handle multiple floors for the party? I'm struggling with the best way to do handle 3 or 4 floors in a single map on roll20
Of course! For doing a single image map your only real options are laying the ship out side by side showing each floor. But I'll with Dungeondraft and see what I can come up with.
Can you use the maps made in Dungeondraft and Wonderdraft in video game makers or is this specifically a tool for D&D? Dumb question I know. Seemingly, as long as you can import these images into the game make software you could use whatever you made in the aforementioned map makers.
They both export 2d images in jpeg or png format, so if those would work for what you're wanting to do then sure. They don't export any kind of 3d image though.
awesome video Anto. was wondering if you use these maps on roll20? if so how to you import them? ive recently started making maps on dungeondraft and when i try and put them on roll20 it says the file size is too large. How do you deal with this problem?
Is this program a native compiled binary executable or does it use shockwave/java or some other slow interpreter? Dungeon Painter Studio is shockwave based. It really slows down when a lot of objects are on the list. It's also a memory hog because I make large and detailed maps. It's good for what it is, but with large projects it's too slow and takes too much memory.
I don't know what architecture it's built on, but I've never had slowdown problems. I've had multiple crashes as updates and things have come in, but things tend to get fixed pretty quick.
Excellent Video, thank you. I have one question, can this program import waypoints so that it can generate a map based on the waypoints? As an example, when I'm running around in a MMO I will often record waypoints and export those into a text file which I can then use in another program to generate a crude map. This would be great if DungeonDraft could do this to help save us a lot of work.
I bought a copy, but have no idea how to access it. Can anyone help? Got a receipt in email, but no idea where to go to redeem. Dumb noob question obviously!
I have maps I've made previously with an inferior tool (by the looks of it), but I put a lot of work into it, so I don't want to throw them out. Can you import images as blueprints/overlays so you can "paint over" them?
One option is to place them on a different layer, and then export two different images. One with only base layer and another with the secret layer blended into the base layer.
Make the large circular room first and then use the room tool to make the smaller room. If you want the floor to be continuous, just use the wall tool.
@@IcarusGames Room tool? Do you mean "Building" tool? Because when I try using the building tool again in the same room, it only makes a square/rectangle!
A question I have is would this be useful for playing offline? I love the idea of designing maps and battlegrids but I prefer to play offline and in person with the group. I could most likely sneakily print things at work in colour so that is not a concern.
So I bought this and I'm having a problem. It won't do floors and walls. I try to lay floors and no matter which pattern I choose, it comes out as just black space. It does the shape I choose, but just black, no floor pattern. Also when I try to place a door the entire map turns white. Everything disappears and it's just blank white. Hitting undo brings it all back though. All other objects show fine. Just not floors and walls. I updated my graphics driver. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong, or what I need to do, or if I just need a different computer?
That's not an issue I've encountered! I'd try reinstalling the latest stable version as the first step. Are you running on windows or via Mac emulation? Only windows is natively supported right now. If reinstalling doesn't work, the dungeondraft discord is the best place to try and troubleshoot. discord.com/invite/6Ak9sZQ
Running on windows 10. I uninstalled and reinstalled once. I will try unistalling it again, and redownloading the installer. See if there was some issue there. Pretty sure it's just a problem with me and not really a bug.
I believe you can have a max of 100x100 tiles, but as the program exports png files, that will be more than 5mb. I'd recommend 50x50 as the max and that you run the image through some compression software such as "Caesium" to get the file size down.
Not currently. But if you're hooking this up to a TV at the table you can drop the ambient light and use the spot lighting tool to reveal areas you want as you progress.
Oh tabletop simulator, i run my rifts rpg game in tabletop sim. The map is a old military base that the players are going to clear out. Zombies and such.
