Love that last piece of terrain with that overhang, reminds me of that episode of Game of Thrones when Jon snow went to capture a white walker and needed to be saved by Daenerys and Drogon. Congrats on the 200th episode
Omgoddess, I am soo glad 🤗 I found your channel... I'm an arty 🎨 crafter, and I've always been a big believer in finding out what you've got in your home 🏡 before you venture into the shops!...🏪 With my children growing up we loved rainy make & do ☔ days, we made all sorts, pictures made only with things we found on our nature walks, one of my favourite makes was a pair of 👀🐊👀 "croc-binocs" (binoculars in the shape of a crocodiles head) they were toilet roll tubes, yoghurt pots and newspaper soaked in flour & water, then we painted & coated them in pva glue, my daughter still has them and shes 25 now!... And funnily enough we made a landscape like yours just not on such a grand scale, we have a lot of great mumories, and the best thing is I now have grandchildren and the "rainy day make & do box" has officially been reinstated!!!...🥳... My eldest grandson is 7 and absolutely loves dragons, we've been trying to find a good project to do, he wants to incorporate dragons (obviously) So I've come up with an island idea, it's going to be a 3D treasure map including the sea and a pirate ship!, and it's your staggered cliff idea that's given me the inspiration for "Hangmans cliff" we've been planning and sketching out plans for "Dragons 🐲 Hollow" for a while, but I keep trying to put it off until after Christmas... because the updated and alot bigger version of the "rainy day make & do box" is their Christmas present.. ...🎁🤗🎁... I'm soo excited to show him your videos...📽... I'm soo sorry I've just realized I'm waffling on & on... ...🙄... I hope you have a wonderfully magikal Sunday my lovely... 💫🎨🐉🏝🐉🎨💫
I wouldn't be a crafting DM if it wasn't for finding this channel and by extension the Tabletop Crafter's Guild. Congrats on 200! I have probably seen every one of them and enjoyed the ride and will continue to do so! The kids are always wanting a new project and this is perfect.
Hey Scottie! I want to say a belated congratulations on your 200th episode! It's probably more like 300 by now! But also congrats on 10 years! You have inspired all of us crafters to become crafters dude!
Congrats Scotty, you are awesome, you are the one who got me into doing game crafts, I hope that 200 is just the start, looking forward for the next 200!
Scotty, another awesome video! You are truly the "CraftFather"!!!! I love watching your videos...I even go back and re-watch your older videos for more inspiration! Thank you!
I must say, you are the most creative of the mini terrain builders on You Tube I have seen so far, I have learned more watching your videos than the others. 👍🏻
200th vids great job DM Scotty. This video is just something anyone can pull off and make but you just make it truly special. What can we expect from the High Father of Crafting? 😊
I have watched your channel off and on for a few years now - superb! I haven't done paper-mache since primary school but I am going to make me some hills! Thanks for another great video.
Congrats on #200! The hill came out great. Pencil shavings and sawdust have been used in model railroading and dioramas since the 1930's (maybe earlier). Nice to see a classic tried and true technique used effectively.
Love seeing you back to cardboard paper towels tp sand and pencil shavings. Been awhile since I heard you say black bomb it. Nice to see this part of the hobby again.
Thanks for the guide! I’m giving the technique a try tonight and I just hope it will keep sticking together once it dries! I’ve poured over a bunch of 50/50 mix and will probably go over it again with pure glue tomorrow once it’s dry to consolidate the whole thing!
This is just what I needed. Great ideas, information, and inspiration! I am one of those you mentioned that don't have the tools (or space) for working with foam. Thanks a bunch for this video! I'm going to go make something awesome now 😁
DAMNNN! I'm loving your videos man. I'd be really amazing if you did a post apocalyptic setting (Like in the third act of Endgame). That'd be rad! Again, love your work
I've been watching for years learning as much as I can. I just started DMing a group of my own and everyone is loving the builds that hit the table each week. Just wanted to say thanks Scotty. Btw can you make a video on how you get your wife to not beat you up after using all the doodoo paper? Lol
Really happy to have found this paper mache method. I've been looking for a way to make a pond for my Christmas village, and I think this is exactly what I've been holding out for! From there, I'll expand into D&D terrain for sure. One question I had was about your 50/50 glue/water mixture. Do you use the Glue-All for that, or would cheaper white glue be fine? Just wondering since it'll be watered down glue anyway, if it mattered whether I bought some Dollar Tree cheap stuff, while using the Glue-All for all other aspects of the craft. Trying to get the most bang for my buck with the glue.
I'd suggest that when you're doing the cliff faces, add a few small pieces of gravel to it, just embed it in the hot glue at areas to break it up slightly and make it more real looking.
@@theDMsCraft It's an easy way to do it, and it also helps remove some of the more plastic looking parts of hot glue texture by doing so. It's one thing I've done when I'm making more path areas on terrain pieces.
I'm a brand new viewer of your channel. This looks great, easy, and fun. One concern i have, do your builds ever get mouldy? Trapped water on paper eventually kind of going bad? Good stuff, i'm a new subscriber!
Glad you like the stuff. All the water dries so no worries with mold. If you get it wet again could be a problem but all my years of doing stuff it has never been an issue.
2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣🏅🏅🏅 Congrats... As for the video... That's one BIG spitball... 😆 Fantastic though; I can't wait to try it. Reminds me of some of the cave/cavern techniques you showed during your 2.5D Next days - like the natural stone steps leading to a bridge. I really like this recent streak of videos you're doing that are oriented around demonstrating techniques, especially showcasing updates to techniques from years ago. Will you be demonstrating an updated version of your 3D structure builds with removable outer walls & roof, and 2.5D tile/interiors? Say, your mausoleum graveyard build? I ask because I really want to try out a newer structure build, but almost all crafters use xps foam (I have no plans to get into hotwire table cutting). Pax ✌️
Scotty, What an amazing tutorial! I'm thinking of adapting your method to simulate sandstone/desert terrain. Any advice supplied would greatly be appreciated. Kind Regards Johnny
That looks awesome. The green drybrush at the end nailed it. Question -- after the 50/50 glue (before painting) was applied, how long would you estimate it took to dry? That was a LOT of 50/50 applied. Did you let it dry outside in the sun? Just curious about dry time.
Drying times can vary quite a bit due to conditions. A fan or leaving in a hot car will speed up the process. Also when dry to the touch paint on a layer of glue with a wet brush. When fully dry it will harden up quite nicely if you soaked all the towels and TP in the 50/50 solution.
Curious if anyone in your household has ever found themselves out of paper towel or worse yet, toilet paper and then cursed your name and your channel. My wife loves to blame me for any paper outage even though I use a different brand.
i have questions first, if a minture made of paper mache or paer issue mache like you is good for Painting actylic paints? since all my crafting years i made mintures out of Paper mache and that time i uses coloured papers to add colours but now i wanna paint it this second, If i made Floor street or medieval Tiles out of your paper mache techique is good? i have a idea if is wet i will use pencil or sitck to create floor tiles Third, there a guide videos thar for painting mintures and terrains but short like only 8 minutes instead of 30 minutes
If you make paper mache as I have here you can paint it with acrylics. The paper mache is wet so anything that will bend as it dries will not work. As it drys to the touch you could put a weight on it to keep the tiles flat.
Can depend on the size and conditions. At least a day or two. If careful you can put it in a oven at the lowest setting but make sure to keep an eye on it.
Wow. I mean cool. But. Good grief. This has to be the most work intensive, time intensive, glue heavy and expensive papier mache technique Ive seen ! It's like rich peoples masochist papier mache !
Looks a bit harder than it is. Cardboard is free and you won't use near to one TP roll or roll of cheap paper towels so that is negligible also. One bottle of Glue-all would work so that is less that 3 bucks. Much less if you buy in bulk. The only thing is the time which i find to be less that normal paper mache. Putting the object in front of a fan or in a hot car speeds the drying considerably.
@@BraxtonSharkboy Yes bro. Former scratch builder of terrain from 35mm down to 6mm scales, fantasy and sci fi and buyer of pieces when I couldn't be bothered. Did that for 20 years. Thanks for asking. That it's cheaper than something shop bought is a bit like saying cleaning the yard with a toothbrush is better than getting in a guy to do it for you.
