this was the first film that made me feel like I was watching the first Guardians of the Galaxy and was a pleasant surprise. Shame it never picked up any momentum theatrically.

While that may be the case, as a movie it didn't work. No build of tension, just trap to trap. It was like when I roleplayed at 12 yrs old. Got bored 3/4 way through movie due to the lack of build up. If more tension it wouldn't matter whether u played or not.

We watched on streaming and loved it. My Husband and I still laugh about Jarnathon and the fat dragon- if they make a sequel, will definitely see in theaters

One of the things I remember of D&D release was a very crowded month of April. It had no chance because everyone had a movie they wanted to see each weekend.

Because of this movie, I’m now looking to get back into DND. It was THAT good. Great ensemble, awesome set pieces. Would love to see a sequel with Pine and crew back!

The CEO of Paramount Pictures said last year that a sequel could happen only if they could lower the budget. The question is could you actually make a Dungeons and Dragons film with a lower budget especially with the kind of set pieces and visual effects needed?

I have to admit, I still know absolutely nothing about the D&D game. But, I saw the movie in theatres (mainly because I liked the trailers) and loved it. I call it a modern day Princess Bride (which I admit are big words, but well deserved).

Not only does the movie need a sequel but D&D needs more content. I'm talking live-action dramas, video games, novels and of course, D&D needs more cartoons than JUST Vox Machina

Me and my son watched this, he loved it and then said he was really sad we wouldn't be getting a sequel as it bombed. This is one of those where the sequel (if good) could blow away the first one at the box office. Same applies with Transformers One. The masses are sleeping on these great movies, but streaming is getting them the audience they deserve.

Paramount did have the foresight to green light Mutant Mayhem 2 bc of how many people found and really liked it after its theatrical run, hopefully the same thing could happen to D&D and Transformers One… we saw how big of a boost Netflix gave Spiderverse w how successful Across the Spiderverse ended up being

I think another thing that helped green light a sequel to Mutant Mayhem is that they were already planning to make a television series on Paramount+ set between both films.

This movie was such a breath of fresh air. So much fun. There was no agenda or boxes being checked: just a fun adventure with a rag-tag group of heroes battling a magical villain (plus the Easter egg of the D+D animated show) Hope it gets a part 2.

IF and I mean, IF, they decided to cash in on the explosive popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3, decided to cast a lot of talented unknowns at a lower price and utilize extremely resourceful special effects groups, they could create a phenomenal BG3 installment that could have spot cameos of the original cast.

What gets me is every time people say a movie lost money, they mean it lost money for a year. It's probably already profitable if you add in the streaming licensing income. Do they include increased profits from merchandising?

I believe Pine was introduced to D&D by relatives and that is what helped his decision to do the D&D movie. He said he would gladly come back and do another one if they greenlight it.

It came out at a bad time in every way. I was always aware of DND, but I didn't really understand a lot of the setting until I played through Baldur's Gate 3 well after the theatrical run of Honor Among Thieves. December 2023 would have been a better window for me. I'd prefer that the studios consider doing some more animated forgotten realms shows. I bet other shows like Vox Machina are helping with that already.

I saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse…..twice!! The reason it didn’t do well was because: (A) It came out the week after John Wick and the week before The Super Mario Bros Movie and (B) DnD fans were pissed off at WotC because of the whole OGL debacle and boycotted the movie as punishment.

I think if Amazon was smart they would make a lower budget sequel, direct to streaming and market with Vox Machina or their upcoming Mighty Nein show. Also with the new 2024 DnD rules coming out now, it could be a good idea to do a new marketing push for Hasbro and WOTC.

I have a funny story about that film. When I watched a kid, I watched it on television and the only thing I remember from it was that the Black dude died. It’s only recently that I realized that was Marlon Wayans. 😅

Here, audience from germany but watching on amazon. I liked the movie in cinema and now on streaming. So much fun, great comedy. Fat dragon, Mini-Cooper or asking the dead. Great cast. Good visuals. Inspirational for many players. I played DND once years ago but I was roleplaying in other systems. This movie like the Gamers felt like watching a DND-group. Thumbs up.

saw it at home. very fun movie. looks and sounds great in 4k too. but i dont think being in top 10 on Netflix means anything. unless it was #1 for many weeks or something.

Yes we will get another, maybe not a sequel, but another. We had one in 2000 that was so so. We had two more that were B-serie movies. And still, we had Honor Among Thieves. It might take many yeayrs, but another will happen for sure. Also, this was the first movie using Forgotten Realms settings. All the video games use this settings and countless novels too. You have too much potential there as long as they make it accessible to the non-initiate like this movie was.

I didn't see it in theater. I wanted to but just didn't have the time. It didn't help the movie that there was a big problem with the OGL and fans were mad at WotC. But I did watch it on Amazon as soon as it came out and I love this movie. 😊

Here is the thing. The MCU and franchise films hasn`t killed cinema despite what some say. Wokeness hasn`t killed cinema as others say. Streaming platforms and oversaturation of content Killed Cinema. That and short attention spans and social media and all that crap. The first film was great here is hoping they get another outing.

Simple solution to this is to rebrand. Don't do another "Dungeons and Dragons" movie, but get that same creative teams for a "Forgotten Realms", "Ravenloft", or "Greyhawk" movie that's just as good and go from there with the huge library of existing stories to adapt.

@@WastedPo If it's the Forgotten Realms, (the setting of the first movie) it would just be accentuating a different aspect of the naming convention, could have the same cast or characters*, and fans that want to learn could learn it's a sequel, while new people wouldn't have the baggage of D&D. Win/win/win. *PS: They still need to have a character killed off and just have the same actor come in as a new character to replace them next scene... 🙂
