Watch the playthrough of this solo adventure. Castle Ravenloft is a dungeon crawler board game in the Dungeon & Dragon world. Roll your d20 and combat monsters, collect treasure an level up your character with XP.
I have watched a fair number of board game playthroughs and I found yours to be the most helpful and enjoyable. Somehow you've found the perfect blend of explanation and playthrough. Way to go!
This is my first D&D board game and me and my nephew just spent HOURS trying to figure this game out, we would get stuck and would setup cards to pretend we were in that situation until we could figure out what it meant. Then i find your video and OMG this would of saved us SO MUCH TIME. Thanks!
Love this video. These playthroughs are very helpful to me for learning games like this. I'm playing the first mission right now. Vampire Strahd is hot on my tail right now.
You taught me how to play Adventure Begins and now you have taught me how to play Castle Ravenloft! Thank you for your easy to follow and clearly explained videos much appreciated! Subbed
Great game. Just one small mistake, at 14:25 the Spider acidic web is +11 you would have taken 1 less damage and be slowed. I haven't played in a long time but I think that you can't do move+attack+move its either move+attack, attack+move or two moves but thanks to Alisa's scout ability doesn't matter in this case. Also, don't forget that you can also use xp to cancel encounter cards.
Thanks for pointing all that out. I checked the rulebook and you are correct: you cannot move+attack+move. Hope you enjoyed the playthrough and hope you get Castle Ravenloft back on the table soon!
Thank you very much for this. I now can be super lazy and not read as much in order to know how to play! CHEERS! :) Great play through as well. I very much so enjoyed it!
26:45 - One thing I noticed ... the monster you place on the Chapel Tile is in addition to the normal monster you place for drawing a tile. If you read the back cover of the Rulebook, it says this under the "Castle Ravenloft Adventure Clarifications" section. So, there should have been two monsters placed. 1 for drawing a tile like normal, and 1 more for each Hero that is playing. 31:35 - You have to take 2 encounters every turn. 1 for not exploring, and 1 because of the rules of the Chapel Tile. (The game is brutal!) This is also stated on that clarifications page.
Yeah I picked up this game again last week and have been playing it every evening. I've played Adventure 2 four times and died every time. I've even given myself the 3rd Healing Surge they suggest in the rulebook for making things easier. But when you play this game by the rules (not missing monsters, not missing encounters, playing with the required number of heroes), it's practically impossible.
Personally when i play these boardgames once i discover the hidden chamber and begin the final fight, i stop the encounter cards, why should u have encounters if ur done exploring. These games are fun but they need to think the rules out better for all the games
I agree with your sentiment. Playing by the rules as they are written makes Ravenloft EXTREMELY difficult. I recently started playing Legend of Drizzt, and it's much easier ... and arguably more fun. The reason is they split the Monster/Treasure/Encounter decks in half. So for your first few adventures, you only use the first half of the deck by design. I imagine once you mix in the other half, it becomes much harder. Also, Legend of Drizzt has Monster cards that literally say, "Don't place a monster this turn.", and treasure items that let you instantly level up. It's just overall more casual in my experience. When I play Castle Ravenloft again, I plan on removing at least 2 out of the 3 Wraiths, Blazing Skeletons, and Gargoyles. 1 of each is more than enough. The rules say you can "mix and match" the games as needed, so I feel like it's still within the rules to simply remove copies of those monsters that basically make the game unwinnable unless you just have extremely good luck on the dice rolls always rolling in your favor.
Great playthrough! Very good explanation of the game. Just a question about the setup. I see you have 2 tiles (1 left and 1 right) next to the start tile. Is that part of the setup? Or have you explored them yet? Weren't there any monsters? I hope to see you do a playthrough with more explorers, when things get messy with more monsters. Keep up the good work!
The setup in the adventure book indicating assembling the map with those two tiles already out. Having more heroes does mean more chaos and monsters! Thanks for your words of encouragement, see you on the next one!
This was great. I needed a run down of this as I am running it this weekend at a meetup. I was under the impression that you could burn 5 xp to ignore an event card, and it implies in the rules that you move and attack or attack and move but I didn't think you could "split" your movement. Is that an option in a q&a somewhere?
You can burn 5 XP to cancel an encounter once you have revealed it. Movement cannot be split, you either move and then attack, or attack and then move.
Just watched this with automatically generated subtitles to don't bother my girlfriend next to me in bed. The word Ravenloft was often misspelled as "Ramen love", "Rabbit loved" and "Rabbid love" 🤣🤣🤣 and other gold mispelling like "subaru move" (?) and the Wraith being mispelled "Rape" 😱
I've followed your videos and taken your advice....I've really enjoyed Legend of Drizzt and learned to play it from your videos. So....I don't have to have this one but I found a sale....40 bucks....can you tell me if you like this one better than Legend of Drizzt?
