Check out the new Dungeons & Lasers Kickstarter here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/archonstudio/dungeons-and-lasers-second-edition?ref=bgkfhd *UPDATE* Turns out I had things a bit confused. These sets I have here are actually the revised sets that backers of the FIRST kickstarter will have received! So all the changes and improvements, most importantly the ones in regards to scale, are what original backers got. Dungeons and Lasers 2 will be full of other cool stuff to work with these!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial So far they seem really nice, fairly simple to paint. but we won't be using them in a game for a few weeks to really try them out
Don't sprue yourself, do your core exercise fully before you dungeon yourself into the torture chamber . What is the cost for these? Was all excited then there was no pricing.
Kenneth Young the sets I showed here are what was shipped to backers of the first KS. You can go check out the first KS to see the prices. The $99 pledge actually got everything I showed plus two more themed room sets. I expect pricing for upcoming KS will be similar.
Great job as always. I'm a backer from the first Dungeons&Lasers, and the kit is amazing. I also backed both of their "Rampart" projects. I love their products. They keep getting better, and they're getting better at communication and fulfilling their promises. If I don't back this latest project, it will be because I already have a huge amount of terrain as plastic (here or on its way to me), plus an even bigger amount of 3d models... I'm sure that when I eventually die, there'll be tons of unpainted plastic for my wife to deal with. But I'll probably back D&L 2, too, if I'm honest with myself.
I was trying to figure out why this seemed familiar- it's like a (massively) updated heroquest board. For people still playing that, this seems like it would be a fantastic board.
The sci-fi sets similarly resemble an updated/upgraded version of the old Space Hulk cardboard tiles, and ought to make a nice enhancement for games of Space Hulk, Warhammer 40K, DOOM, and the like. Another product they remind me of is the "Mageknight Dungeons" tile-and-wall sets that were available for a short time a decade or two ago. I was lucky enough to grab a couple sets of those on clearance before they vanished, and they are very similar. The Mageknight Dungeons sets are, however, quite a bit flimsier and more brittle, harder to use, and have far less variety and far less attractive sculpting compared to Dungeons & Lasers. (On the bright side, the Mageknight Dungeons tiles and walls came pre-painted, which might be something for those who don't want to paint their own. I think I would recommend Dungeons & Lasers more, though!)
I have these, they're quite nice. I especially like the 'the Druid was right!' pledge rewards of animals with weapons and armor. The dagger-wielding fox is awesome, as is the sword-wielding dog.
The walls and tiles were nice stuff, but I absolutely agree on the "Druid Was Right!" add-on: those animal characters are just brilliant, the miniatures look great, and my gaming group really fell in love with them. They will make great side-kicks, animal companions, familiars, and NPCs - I kind of wish I'd bought and extra set of these now!
The Artis Opus brush people do the most amazing dry brush scenery painting videos... ever. IMO they are the goto people on youtube for drybrushing/stippling style painting.
I’m curious if you’ve ever seen any systems or builds that use a “half walls” system for buildings etc? So can have the “roof” atop it till need to go inside; then have easy access to playing inside but still know where doorways & windows are.
I backed this KS, could resist, the price was so reasonable, the quality seems great. now just to find the time to cut and paint this MASSIVE pile of plastic. for the most part my plan is incorporate these tiles into some grim dark space hulk terrain pieces
Thanks for the video I back the KS receive it in Danemark. It is resilient test by my 3 years old son. Easy to make the coat easy to paint. Juste for me the walls are a little high but is is a good product for the price
The GamesWorkshop clippers are expensive but worth the money. I will never use anything else for clipping my models. They get super close cuts and leave almost nothing behind.
I went outside to prime a few miniatures, including a handful of things I got from Dungeons and Lasers. I put on a video to make sure I'm distracted enough to not touch or spray things without waiting long enough for it to dry. BMC unboxing Dungeons and Lasers... that works.
I got a "test" pack of a few pieces from the last set, and they were awesome, but unfortunately I had zero money to back them last time, and I was kicking myself, but this time I have some money and definitely won't be missing it this time around!
Hey man, been following for a year or so now. I've never been disappointed. Keep up the great work and keep inspiring because you get me amped to paint, sculpt or even to create in general. Thank you for all you do! ❤
I actually made the same mistake you did in this video when I made mine when I got my parcel, which I got first cause I live in Poland and all of the US parcel got held up because Apocalypse. Anyway, the half-connectors are not for the edges but they are meant for multiple floor design of the dungeon. Someone from Archon Studio commented on my vid and that is how I know.
I do remember the video from the first release. I thought they were pretty cool and it looks like they've improved them. They remind me of building model cars as a kid, cutting the pieces from the sprue and finishing the edges. At least with these you can do them all at once and no worrying about what went were. I'd like to see you paint a few pieces. I spit out my soda when it came apart 😆 it's actually much sturdier than I expected, considering it's snap together.
I backed the firt kickstarter, and I´m definetely backing the new one. The quality , durability and price is just outstanding. I highly recomend you paint them, because they are a work of art, and your players will absolutely fall in love with them. My only complain would be that inserting and removing the little floor ircles is a pain in the ass, and I hope they fix that in the next batch. All in all, a fantastic set of dungeon tiles for your table. 9/10 P.S; Chek out the new dragon minis in the kickstarter, they are AMAZING
Can you unclip them once theyre clipped together? If so, how durable are the male pieces? And one more question, if ya dont mind, How much is a set of em?
@@eansba88- Yes, you can unclip everything. When you build them, they're pretty sturdy, but its extremely easy to disassemble. To my knowledge, the pieces are extremely durable. There is no way you're going to break one of this by accident. In order to actually break them, you'd have to use tools. The full Kickstarter set, wich is composed of the main set, three rooms, 20 minis, and extras to spice up your dungeon, was about 100$. Pretty cheap in my opinion. Totally worth it.
I Backed the first KS and am extremely happy, they communicated clearly a regularly, they had a good pre production feedback period when they adjusted some things based on the free samples they sent out (i got one of those and did give feedback so that was cool to see!) and made a really good product. I got the core set with 3 room sets of my choice with all the stretch goal stuff to that limit and got a solid 4kg box of dungeon for $99... I consider that a huge bargain. Oh and suffice to say the molds are really good quality, I've not got any faults, flashing or complaints at all.
I have these. I like them a lot. My biggest gripes are: I wish there were half-walls (I dont like them this tall) and I still have to paint them all (its time consuming haha) Other than that, I like them, they're pretty modular and nice looking and they hold up really nicely. As far as the miniatures go that came with the kickstarter, a lot of them are nice but some are fairly poorly designed for where the connections are and leave large slits in important places that you have to use some extensive green-stuff fixing.
Looks like the second KS might be introducing sets with half-height versions of the walls - if so, I think it will be a great addition to the product line for those of us who find the tall walls a little awkward - the previews of these half-wall sets look fantastic! The half-walls seem to mix well with the tall walls from what I've seen of the previews - for example, a half-wall dungeon might have full-sized doors, or half-walls in the middle and full walls around the outside edges.... It should be a nice improvement in visibility and usability compared to a set consisting only of full walls.
Honestly, I haven't done any gaming in years. That said, I *am* getting back into painting minis and making dioramas... And, imho, your videos are some of the most interesting I've come accross-- mainly because you know your craft, and you have an excitement for it that's both informative *and* entertaining! I mean hell-- here I am watching an 'unboxing' video for a product I'll probably never use... But who knows? Good job! 🖒😎
Yo! I backed the first kickstarter at DM level and added one extra core set and add on rooms. The kits are great. If you don't like high walled dungeons you may not want them BUT round 2 is making half walls that will work. It will take you a WHILE to snip, clean, and paint. I have fully snipped everything and painted one core set, I got my sets about a month ago and have probably spent 20 or so hours doing just that. IT IS A TIME COMMITMENT. However well worth it in my opinion. The tiles are great, thee is no set method of construction just go. They are stackable so you can have multi level buildings or arenas and the stair cases help facilitate that. As a GM you will have to hand waive some movement as regular sized minis do not balance on the stairs at al so placing them is wierd.
Backed the first one- two core sets and three extra rooms -and definitely backing this one . In D&L2 they have 4 more room designs , 2 fantasy 2 sci fi , half height wall option and some wonderful dragons . Their communication is great , always keeping backers up to date with whats going on and prices are good . Kits are great quality,
Really liked the unboxing review style video! I think you should consider bringing them back a bit, especially this year, to help showcase some products for smaller companies that may have relied a lot on convention sales. Just a thought, cheers!
Unfortunately the main reason I stopped doing them is a lack of time to record and produce them, and that limited resource has not become any more abundant for me recently.
I got the Sci-Fi stuff. I love it. So easy to put together. My favorite part, and I didn't it in the stuff you got was the Animal Adventurers. They put out both a fantasy and a sci-fi set.
These look great. But I can see using them a bit more for either fancy bases and mini dioramas than for a full terrain set up. But to do that I want to be able to just buy individual sprues. Still, very nice looking stuff.
It's like a more customizable version of the Warlock Tileset. Though I like how those come prepainted and are all half walls. I don't like reaching over walls either while playing. lol
Just an FYI to any Cdns wanting this set, be sure you really want it. When all was said and done I ended up paying almost $90 for shipping and allowing Fed Ex to bring it from Poland to Cda.
Backed first kickstarter. So impressed i plan to back next depending on what they release. They had great communication and quickly designed and manufactured. Its great quality detail and quite sturdy. I just finished clipping and cleaning up. I had 3 core sets and 11 expansion sets so alot to do. Cant wait to the start the mammoth painting task this weekend. The new kickstarter coming august 25th i believe has optional half height walls
I did back the first KS, and will likely back the second one as well. I don't generally use tiles in RPGs, but these are cool enough and the price reasonable enough that I made an exception. Like someone else mentioned in another comment, the basic idea is like an updated/upgraded HeroQuest board, and would work great for HeroQuest games (the sci-fi themed sets would similarly work great as an upgrade to Space Hulk tiles.) I will agree with the biggest complaint: the walls look great, but they are a little too much for my tastes as well, blocking gamer line-of-sight and getting in the way of moving things around. Fortunately, the second KS is looking like it will include half-wall versions, which ought to be a lot easier to work around. The 30mm grid size is great for allowing a little extra elbow-room for miniatures and walls, but is just noticeably bigger than the 25mm/1" grid standard for RPG products, so these won't quite be fully compatible with competing products like WotC's sturdy cardboard tiles and paper poster-maps, Paizo's flip-mats, the HeroQuest game board, and so on. The difference might not be big enough to worry about, and maybe most groups won't mix the different products, though. That's only a small complaint, but it's worth noting for anyone who might have hoped to mix-and-match different products. On the bright side, the plastic tiles and walls do look great, and should make for an eye-catching, impressive, easy-to-use, and affordable gaming experience for those who like 3D dungeon rooms. The tile set themes are quite nice as well, ranging from the "generic" basic dungeon cobblestones-and-brickwalls main set, to the Warlock library theme with bookshelves molded to the walls and the Torture Chamber theme with skeletons, coffins, and torture implements molded to its walls; a Dwarven-hall style Hero theme completes the four fantasy sets available in the first Kickstarter, allowing for all the variety one might want for a basic fantasy dungeon. The Sci-fi sets start with a generic space-themed set, rounded out with a computer room set, an engine room set, and a Geigeresque alien themed set, which are great for generic space/sci-fi themed games (Space Hulk, DOOM, Warhammer 40K, and the like.) The upcoming second KS looks like it will expand the fantasy themes with a Gothic cathedral and a Dwarven mine, along with a set of dragons (and what fantasy gamer doesn't like dragons?) As mentioned, it looks like there will probably be half-wall versions of the sets (the manufacturer polled its customers on whether they prefer full walls, half walls, or both - I think most of the responses seemed to favor the full walls, but there seemed to be at least some vocal support for half-walls or both!) The second KS looks like it will expand the sci-fi sets with at least one new set, themed around a Warhammer 40K style Gothic cathedral - IN SPACE! (The first KS's fantasy sets seem to have been considerably more popular than the Sci-fi sets, no doubt due to fantasy gaming in general being more popular than sci-fi gaming, so I guess it remains to be seen whether sci-fi gamers will get as much love in the second KS as they did in the first one, but at least the Sci-Fi Gothic Cathedral set looks like it will translate well to fantasy, appealing to both markets.) Until the second KS officially launches, we can only guess at what else may be included, but I can't help thinking a cavern theme is an obvious, if challenging, niche to fill! The tiles and all were great, but the icing on the cake for me were the scenic bits and especially the set of animal characters produced in the first KS: the animal characters are fantastic, with lots of charming character - my gaming group absolutely fell in love with them at first sight! These are fairly realistically-detailed and proportioned animals like cats, dogs, bears, birds, etc., wearing clothing and adventuring gear in a fairy-tale/fantasy style, as if they were familiars or enchanted with human-like intelligence: they make fantastic sidekicks, familiars, animal companions, and the like; the boxed set includes both fantasy and sci-fi versions of most of the critters, with the sci-fi versions no doubt working nicely as genetically- or cybernetically-enhanced animal companions, suitable for sci-fi games ranging from Warhammer 40K to Shadowrun and the like. Similarly, the Dungeon dressing as previewed in the video is all great stuff, with the hard plastic allowing some nice detail, and sturdy pieces (as mentioned in the video about the candelabra, the competition's equivalent tends to be made from soft plastic that tends to be sort of floppy and uncooperative! This hard plastic is a nice balance of just-flexible-enough, without being floppy, and seems to be the ideal material for making slender, delicate models like candelabras and the like....) The dungeon dressing scenic bits mix well with similar models made by Reaper "Bones", Mantic "Terrain Crate", Wizkids, and the like, with the sci-fi bits especially being a nice touch for the relatively underserved Sci-fi gaming community (many of these bits will work nicely on Warhammer 40K vehicle models, for example.) So, over all, for the first KS, the set looks like it's a big win for gamers who use 3D tiles and don't mind tall walls, especially for the sci-fi niche (who I imagine are underserved by a market that caters mostly to fantasy gamers!) The biggest problem for some gamers will be the tall walls, and another likely problem for some gamers might be the compromise resulting in a 30mm grid (vs. the traditional gaming standard 25mm/1" grid). On the bright side, the tile/wall sets are nicely detailed, with great production value, as well as being sturdy and well-designed, and should paint up nicely. The scenic "dungeon dressing" bits are a fantastic accessory for the sets, mixing well with similar bits from e.g. Mantic "Terrain Crate" and Reaper "Bones", and the animal character miniatures are absolutely wonderful and a big hit with my gaming group, at least - I'm hoping to see the same company produce more miniature characters and scenic bits in the future, and if half-wall versions of these sets are available for those of us who find the tall walls awkward, that will address the only major complaint I have.
Umbrella Academy was excellent. I've got my fingers crossed for a third season. This is a nice, solid looking set of terrain pieces. Also, you've invented a new hobby, "Dungeon Juggling".
I backed the first kickstart heavily, and I an on doing so again with the second season. I love the floors and walls and all of the stretch goals and mostly the druid is right, armed and armored pets collection for my druid and ranger ect players. The only 3 negative things I have to say about the set are, 1. Everything in the system from doors to walls to stairs is set up for 10x10 grid. The spacing on the floor is visual for 5x5 which is typical for role play games. But doors are double wide and hallways do not accommodate thinner hallways or passages for single file. And the only way to get a stair way to do that is to take a sculpting saw cut it vertically in half. Which is fine for ogre fortresses and other large creatures but is hard to make sense of a goblin Warren or cobalt den, or dwarven fort 2. The walls seem too tall. It is a bit of a pain to put scatter terrain inside the dungeon in a 2 square wide hallway or room. Although I do have very fat fingers. , 3. Few of the scatter terrain from the stairways to candleholders accommodate stacking the dungeon vertically to create multiple teared areas such as in a tower. Which is not a serious problem as long as you have a sketch idea of what you want to do so you could put stairs in the correct areas but you will have to essentially put the multiple levels next to each other and just remember the order that they are in vertically. My last concern is when I ordered the 1st season everything was grided out at 25 mm. With season 2 being 30 mm the tiles and walls will not be interchangeable between the 2 seasons. So I will have to keep them separated. And also means I can not combine them to create Mega dungeons or if I wanted a good ticular text year from a Room that I ordered in season one I cannot use it in season 2, and Visa versa
I was under the impression that only the prototype tiles from last year were 25mm and they made the switch to 30mm before fulfilling KS1. The sets I opened here are the same sets backers from KS1 received/will receive.
I have backed for it, and I am a fan of the scify tiles, thre are great and I will back again. The problem with the fantasy tiles is in my eyes, the have not enough deep. For example the skelletons are to flat...
What you looked at in the first video must have been a preview version. This is the 1st edition -- I Just received these as a backer of the 1st Kickstarter. Been painting them up, they are awesome! You can late pledge on their website - Core set + 3 extra rooms & stretch goals are $99. 2nd edition will have more themes and half-walls. I'm definitely backing the 2nd edition.
I am a backer, and D&L 1 was good enough that I would confidently recommend it to anyone interested in having multi-story structures like dungeons with rooms overlooking one another at separate elevations. You can do a lot with this set, though there are no single-character wide areas to work with unfortunately. Maybe D&L 3. One of the only weaknesses to the set is the peg used to connect the walls to the floors - those can be a weak point that a rogue elbow can snap if struck in a careless manner. Still, 98/100, will pledge again.
One thing to try. drill a hole in the middle of the 10 foot section. Just be advised that the high walls already make a 10x10 area hard to work in, cutting it down to 5 gonna be worse
I went whole hog during the first one and got double fantasy and a single sci-fi, both of which I'm using for at least one version of Zombicide(Black Plague/Green Horde and Invader, respectively), while the fantasy is also moonlighting as dungeons for my Lightbringers in Massive Darkness. Really digging it so far. I very much enjoy the modular capabilities of the sets, and how they can be mixed and matched to make cohesive and entertaining dungeon. As it stands, I am very happy with my purchase, and will be pledging for the second one as well to add even more insanity to my games.
I just checked out the site, the prices aren’t that bad, wish I had the money to get it though. I am just now getting into D&D (taking a break from Star Wars legion) would love to get into it even further
I got this and loved it with 2 exceptions. 1: There's too much! This is a legit complaint, specifically about the connector pegs. I ended up making a little holder thing for them out of wire that hold 20. I made over 30 of these... That's 600 connectors. Not even including the half pegs for smooth edges [though there's half as many and they're half the size]. If they could make a holder thing for them that you just slide them onto through, essentially the thing i made, but you know, included as part of it, that'd be great. 2: 1 of the objects is missing from the stretch goals box. the bear trap. was missing from all 3 of the stretch goals I got. [me and my housemate both backed this, me getting scifi, him getting dungeon, so we got a stretch goals each, then it turned out you could just add extra stretch goals in backerkit after it had finished. Still worked out cheaper since he each got one free but only by like 5 dollarydoos because of postage to Australia. And I could've gotten an extra room set if i had just gotten both themes in 1 order. this is a very long and pointless bracketed section]. 3: I hope the next kickstarter ends before the USD recovers so I get the next stuff cheaper.
I wasn't impressed with the first set reviewed but this new set has gone above and beyond with improving the system. If these kinds of tiles are your thing then you should grab them
My Citadel nippers were much more durable than my God Hands but they didn't cut as well. So I usually cut with Citadel first and finish with God Hands.
... we also thought these tiles were great and certainly going to back the next version once it launches - another bonus is the weight, so light and tons of variety. You can see our own unboxing which we did live here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U4fWos7R18g.html
These look so good! Hate that my country's economy is in the crapper. Shelling out for the set and another half of that amount for shipping makes it difficult to attain... Grid paper it is!
It looks like the manufacturers at least tested the waters to see if there's a demand for half-wall versions of the sets for the upcoming second KS - I don't know if they'll go through with it - seems like a lot of their feedback preferred full-sized walls - but I also find the full-height walls a bit awkward for D&D gameplay, interfering with visibility and otherwise getting in the way, and think I would prefer half-height walls for most gaming purposes. Otherwise, I don't have any complaints: I backed the first KS, and think the sets look fantastic, and the scatter terrain and miniatures that came with it are excellent.
Yea, but then you have all those spots without paint on them that would look weird. Doesn't matter much on the floor tiles, but the top of the walls would be a problem. I suppose you could touch up the tops after and it may overall still be time efficient.
Holy dang I just got some new metal dice and they are heckin bomb my guy! They are dark arts bloodbath from die hard and ai think you should get some you don’t have any
It was only the prototypes that were 25mm. They switched to 30mm before they shipped out sets from the first KS. The sets I have here are actually what backers of KS1 received, and there will be new themes in KS2.
