Alfred Dunhill have been a London-based luxury brand since 1893 making all sorts of goods to tempt the aspiring British gentlemen. At the affordable end of the Dunhill brand, their enigmatic fragrances offer superb value for many and a great selection of colognes that scream tradition and heritage.

Excellent review as always. I’ve always found TABAC EDC (1959) and DUNHILL FOR MEN (1934) quite similar, almost interchangeable in fact; very interesting to find out about the Mary Dunhill/Maürer + Wirtz connection - makes sense.

One of the first fragrances I bought as I love classics that are a part of fragrance history... I love this old school gem, I just wish it lasted longer, it’s very much a skin scent.. Delightfully masculine..

I've always wondered about Dunhill products. Here in Canada you rarely see the brand anywhere but tobacco shops.

Thank you so much for recommending this! I personally don't care so much about Floris 89 or Floris Elite, but I like this very much. Dunhill for men seems to me a bit same style as Burberry for men which I like a lot, but more complex and even better. Very much a gentleman's fragrance, easy to wear, stylish without pomposity.

ASH! Speaking of inexpensive fragrances to experiment with, I blind bought for 26 (American dollars) Encre Noire by Lalique and I’m over the moon with it! I would love to see you do a review of it. I think you’d really appreciate it. The more homework I did on it, the more interested I became. I can’t wait to wear it to work tomorrow.

I discovered this fragrance at the Chicago Dunhill store in Water Tower in the mid eighties. It was my exclusive, signature fragrance for about five years.

Just bought it, just picked it up in the Mail and tried it! Im 24 but im very often wearing 40s style clothes , this looks and truly is the 40s in a bottle! Im new to Colognes and it isnt often i say this but this one fits with my clothes! I imagine this becoming just another accessory To my outfit, when I have a vintage day, my favorite cologne that I have is Taylor of old Bond Street sandalwood, that was the 40s in a bottle for me, but compared to this, it’s just that, sandalwood…. :/ nice, still a nice one but this is faaaar more complex and fresh than Taylor of old Bond Street, a bit soapy at times🤨 but then that sandalwood comes through and makes it oh so spicy and warm🥰🥰 20 min in…I love it allready, and it’s old! 70s in style is kind of not what I’m usually go for in style so if I can get a real 30s scent? Oh yes give it to me!!

@@TheChapsGuide it is!! And the box looks cheapish too, like 80s cheap, but not the smell! The smell is really an expensive feel! It reminds me a bit of prorasos sandalwood aftershave 😂🙈 wich is probably one of my favorite aftershave’s, I just thought the other day how great it would be if it was a cologne 🙈😍😍😍😍

This EDT is pretty similar to the Spanish most gentleman cologne BRUMMEL,from PUIG house, same as QUORUM. 250ml of BRUMMEL 9'90€

Dunhill men's fragrance is really nice. Why don't any fragrance outlets sell them? Duty free used to sell them but not anymore.

Do you recommend this over Chanel Platinum Egoiste for a versatile classy mens fragrance for someone in their 30’s? Which would you recommend as most classy signature scent ? Thanks

Platinum Egoiste is a better scent, but costs 4 x as much as Dunhill for Men, so for a daily wearer Dunhill is a good economical choice, but Chanel is the more sophisticated fragrance.

Hey Ash, another great review, I've been using dunhill edition for a while after watching your review and am really enjoying it, but am disappointed at the performance, almost gone in two hours, but I love the jasmine and nutmeg which smell great and was wondering if dfm bears some resemblance to edition but stronger in performance? Am planning a trip to Burlington arcade to visit a few places such as dunhill and Taylor's, hopefully will be able to sample a few fragrances to get a better idea, but would like to hear what you think, I'm seriously considering edition as a signature scent but with dfm as a occasion/ cooler month choice. Congrats on reaching the 10k, so many channels are out there, but yours has always stood above the rest in my opinion. Well done.

Dunhill for Men is more powerful and longer lived than Edition. I would absolutely agree that For Men is better suited for cooler seasons and Edition is the perfect warmer fragrance. Both are equally cheap too.... which is a nice surprise. You will not find either of these fragrances in the actual Dunhill boutique on Jermyn Street, as they are not part of the current in-store collection and are now part of the older portfolio, which you will generally only find online. I believe that both are still in current manufacture, but there is always the risk of retirement at any time. I always have a spare bottle of Edition in reserve. If you like these 2, try Dunhill D. It is also widely available and wonderfully fresh and zesty (cheap too).

Dunhill reminds me of my uncle who was in The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. When I was 14 years old and visited him, I remember seeing a bottle of it in his bathroom. Funny the things that stick in your mind.

I like these fragrance reviews. I bought the Aramis following your review Ash. Wonderful aftershave and your description of the fragrance was bang on 100% accurate. Toying with buying one of the Dunhills, perhaps Edition. Now you've just mentioned David Niven as well. Damn good review Sir!

Edition in unquestionably my favourite Dunhill fragrance and is so reasonably priced. Look on eBay and you should be pleasantly surprised at its cost. Perfect for thr summer!!

Tom Ford Beau De Jour is one of my favorites. It would be my signature scent if it was not for the price. Due to that, I save it for special occasions. I guess I could limit my fragrance collection to just that. Doing so would make it much more feasible to make it my signature scent. Maybe one day. As of now, I am still exploring "new" fragrances. Dunhill For Men being one of them. I recently bought a replacement bottle of Aramis Devin and thought I would give Dunhill For Men a try. I can't wait for it to arrive!

I had a full bottle of dunhilan man the brown box glass back in 2009to2012 and it was one of my most complimented fragrance I know its reformulated now this dunhil for man is my no2 favourite fragrance as I got passed it on by my dad thats what got me into fragrance game. Fantastic choice mr ash👍🔥🔥🔥
