Morehead State University ROTC got to go and participate in Dunker training or Survival Egress Training which prepares the Soldier for escape from a downed helicopter within the water. This training provides the Soldiers with the necessary skills to quickly and calmly escape a sinking helicopter in both visible and dark environments. This training better trains a prepares Soldiers and makes them aware of the challenges they may face over open waters. There are several events that happen during dunker training. The practice Egress, the actual egress during day, the night time egress, raft use, rescue floaties, helicopter escape, and turbulent weather training. This Army training is available at Fort Campbell Kentucky.

I just read a book about the making of a Night Stalker crew chief. He described this training in the book, but this was a great video to actually see what he went through.

Damn that night time training looks rough. Smart to do it in training as well.

I am not a good swimmer. Do I see people pinching their nose? Very interesting & cool video. Thanks!

ive done this course and your swimming ability is almost irrelevant. im a certified life guard and i felt none of my swimming skills helped me here. this is about staying calm and making right decisions in the face of pressure. you simply float when you debark the aircraft. i should mention that these looks like more military based -- my training was for oil and gas industry for helicopter egress. we had suits on that gave us 7 breaths of oxygen and also provided a sort of floating lifevest to guide you to the top of water. this training was difficult because you had to use your 7 breathes of oxygen -- a short tube in our emergency PPE. you could not pass unless you had 0% oxygen left in your HUBA device. this caused you to endure the panic of the situation and force yourself to clear the HUBA, breathe in it, then start your exercise of egressing the copter. very intense training and one of the hardest thing ive ever done -- even with my training as a competent swimmer.

@@benburton272 also those big styrofoam helmets basically make you float Lolol. I didn't think about the oil industry teaching this

@@everygooddaydesigns yes for oil rigs offshore in northern newfoundland we had to have this training as the only method of getting on the rig is via helicopter. if i remember correctly its about $6k for a 2 week course. certificate is labelled as "BST" -- basic survival training. It is mandatory by govt to have this if you are going offshore. to add -- its only good for 3 years, then you have to go back and dunk in the copter again as a refresher. I didnt make it that far but I can tell you its as intense as it looks.

Now that's a soft water landing. Drop it from 200ft and it will be only a little more like the real thing.
@everygooddaydesigns
@everygooddaydesigns 2 года назад
As cool as that would be I don't think their trying to have a smaller survival ratio for the course lololol. "5 out of 10 people being trained survive the 200 foot drop" lololol

@@everygooddaydesigns - I understand that completely. In the real event there may be dead, unconscious and/or grievously wounded in the aisles or blocking exits. It seems to be very soft(for want of a better word).
