I agree that they’ve kept a “blue collar” feel, for the most part. Recently I’ve noticed that they’ve begun to update their look, but I think they’ve done a good job of maintaining that original aesthetic, while modernizing.

Especially with the coffee emphasis, they're definitely trying to paint themselves as the "anti-Starbucks". Company Man doesn't mention it, but Dunkin' currently is/has probably capturing customers that are disillusioned with Starbucks, either because of their prices or their very liberal political tendencies.

To me, Dunkin is trying to match up to Starbucks. The most recent updated stores have coffee taps and they pushing away from the “donut” part of their name and going by just “Dunkin”

@WilburLin
@WilburLin 4 года назад
In Taiwan, there was a donut war between Mister Donut and Dunkin', franchised by two competing local food/retail giants. Mister Donut and Dunkin' often opened next to each other. Dunkin' eventually left the market after losing sales to Mister Donut, which was praised for adapting to the local tastes and created recipes for doughnuts that are less sweet. I wonder why these two brands seemingly aren't owned by the same company in certain markets. Any tips, Company Man?

Used to be a Dunks employee myself. Here in my home town we have at least 6 (guess where I live lmao) and I worked at one where they actually still baked the donuts and everything else nightly. Not many stores do the baking anymore considering its very expensive to get the equipment, bakers, and the raw materials every week. I believe only 25 stores are left that still do it in the U.S. but I could be wrong. The espresso thing is spot on, they installed a brand new espresso machine and immediately focused on pushing espresso drinks (mostly lattes) over donuts. Also if you ever want some free donuts go to a Dunkin's about 30 minutes before they close. They usually toss the donuts (sad I know) and they have no issue giving away some. Varies by location but most I've been to around here don't want to toss them so they give them out. Excellent video my friend!

While I was in high school, I would go to Dunkin Donuts for coffee nearly every morning before class with my brother or some friends, and even before the name change, we always referred to the store as “Dunkin”-you’d never ask “wanna get some coffee from Dunkin Donuts?”, you’d ask “wanna get Dunkin?” instead. *It’s failing miserably in India because* 1. Majority of us don’t eat breakfast on the go. 2. Majority of us don’t eat donuts for breakfast, it’s more of a treat/dessert. 3. Every region has its own way of brewing coffee (for example, filter coffee in South India) and Dunkin’s coffee is struggling to compete with the local coffee. 4. Local coffee is 100 times cheaper (and better as per my taste buds) than Dunkin coffee. 5. Everything on Dunkin’s menu is expensive given the fact that it’s a fast food joint (McDonald’s & Domino’s are cheaper compared to Dunkin’s)

There were no less than 5 Dunkins in town the last time I was there, in a town of 10-15000 people that all work somewhere else. Dunkins exist randomly in the middle of neighborhoods, in gas stations (which are also oftentimes in neighborhoods), along with the usual places along high traffic areas, where their concentration is still extremely high compared to any other businesses. In eastern Massachusetts I would bet there isn’t one spot more than a 15 minute drive from a Dunkin.

I remember driving through Nashua, NH and counting approximately 13 Dunkin Donuts stores. It was alarming. In my hometown in Northeast, Ohio we had two spring up in the past year. It's unpleasant to watch, sort of like seeing yet another Verizon store show up in a newly built strip mall.

I don’t want to have to make a trip to dunkin, it practically needs to be at the end of my neighborhood on my way to get my commute and day starter. A grinders icon. Their familiar like family and you want no lines and exactly what you’re going to get everytime you driveaway.

Any given day I go, the drive thru line is long. That's a hard deal to pass up if you enjoy their coffee, which many people do. Given that, it's no surprise how they've been successful and their same stores sales growth has been positive for 10 years running.

If Timmie's stopped expanding their menu so much, I think they would do better and maybe be able to expand again. Their employees can't keep consistency up when they have to make like twenty different sandwiches and I dunno how many different drinks outside of coffee and simple tea. I haven't been to a Timmie's in quite a while since, every time I go, my drink (outside of bag tea or black coffee that I adjust myself) is ALWAYS different and not good: it's either too sweet, too strong, not enough flavour, incredibly watery, or too icy. It's also hit-or-miss with the quality of the donuts; sometimes they're perfect, but more often than not they are slightly old. This includes U.S. Timmie's, too. I love Timmie's, so I hope they take a page out of other restaurateurs' books and streamline the menu so their employees aren't overloaded and ONLY offer a handful of seasonal items that change every quarter.

I agree to the changing emphasis of Dunkin! I worked at an “old” store, which was the classic kind that most people are familiar with. They are slowly introducing a tap system into new stores which gives people in the lobby a direct view of how their coffee is being made. This kind of store is the one I work at currently, and in the one year gap I took from the company, there were so many changes that occurred, including dropping the name to just Dunkin’! I honestly can’t wait to watch how the company expands!

Mike, I wanted to inform you on their “fresh” donuts. They do not make donuts in house, they order them from a central manufacturing location. There, they are made late in the afternoon (5-6 pm) and shipped to the stores after their (the store’s) closing time, delivered anywhere between 10 pm - 4 am the next day. So, those same donuts made 12 hours earlier are on the shelves at 5 am and those same donuts, unless sold out, will stay on the shelves until they close, anywhere between 7-9 pm. They will only make donuts in house if major ones are sold out earlier in the day, such as glazed or frosted. So by the end of the day, they are selling 24 hr PLUS+ old donuts. No discounts or clearance. Selling you day old donuts for full price that have had gnats reproducing on them all day. I know this because I worked there for 4 years.

To be fair, it's only really the northwestern quadrant of the contiguous U.S. that is completely devoid of them. The bigger markets in that area (Washington state, Oregon) are the stronghold of Starbucks while the smaller markets (Idaho, Montana and the Dakotas - Wyoming appears to have at least one in the southeast corner area where the state capital is) don't appear to currently have the demand base for Dunkin' to build out there yet. P.S. Alaska has at least one location and Hawaii seems to have a few as well, all on Oahu.

I had Dunkin’ Donuts a couple of weeks ago. Sadly it wasn’t a good experience because their donut holes were stale.

Martin Maciel thanks for the advice! Or before closing where they practically start giving them away since they’re about to throw them out...if I’m lucky. I drive Uber at night. Nothing like a cupocoffee, cake donut and a smoke!

I lived in Boston for 2.5 years. Almost every area has a Dunkin'. My favorite go-to order would be the frozen chocolate with caramel and whipped cream. The large one is priced around $5 and it good enough for a breakfast.

Tim Hortons having 5000 locations is impressive given that's more then a third as many locations as Dunkin that operates almost exclusively in Canada, which has 9% as many people as the United States

@Tenzin Nordon Tim Hortons has (or did have) a kiosk in Gila River Arena which opened in 2014. This makes some sense considering Gila River Arena is the home stadium of the Arizona Coyotes NHL team, so that kiosk is/was aimed at the visiting fans of other NHL teams.

I love Dunkin’ Donuts. I Would say one thing they have great is their reward system. For the whole month of February they had a free medium coffee with any purchase. I mean free coffee that’s really good. I would choose Dunkin’ coffee over any other major coffee retailer. I think next time I’ll try the latte lol. Their donuts are really good too. What’s also great is that they have so many locations that you can find one almost anywhere.

I can't imagine calling dunkin' donuts just 'dunkin'' it just feels so empty, you need those extra two syllables. i wouldn't call it a regular spot of mine but i don't mind stopping at one while on road trips

Everyone in my area has been mostly calling it Dunkin for as long as I can remember. Maybe it's a northeast thing. But for those of us who have been calling it that anyway, the change isn't a super big deal.

The company started the campaign to the name change long before it happened. Its been, what, about five years or so they have been doing commercials with the tagline "America runs on Dunkin". But, I don't even say let's get Dunkin Donuts. I say let's get donuts and at least 80% of the time it will be Dunkin. The other 20% will be local donut shoos that make some high quality and unique tasting donuts.

Tim Germer America runs on Dunkin has been their tagline since at least 2008. Edit I originally put 2005 but I’ll say 2008 to be safe. Point is it’s been a long time. Still don’t like the official change though, as DD is another one of their nicknames.

Being from Cali, I had not had any Dunkin Donuts until very recently. I was in Roswell New Mexico and they have a Dunkin Donuts Baskin Robbins shop. So I had to give it a try. I has very pleased. The coffee was great. I like regular straight up coffee. And the donuts were nice too, so it was a great experience. Much like going to a White Castle; far better than I expected it to be!!
