When I got the ferry from Gourock to the Cowal Peninsula, I stopped off at Dunoon. I visited the town's museum, as well as the remains of the town's castle.
Claire , I've enjoyed your guided tour. Brings back memories when I was stationed at holy loch (navy) for 2 years. I enjoy my time there amongst the charming people of Scotland , very warmhearted and welcoming . The food was very tasty treats , and souvenirs (i have bagpipes ) ,the cowel games and bagpipe parades . wish I could come back to live./ tah-ta
I’m glad that you’re enjoying my videos, and I’m glad that you enjoyed your time in Scotland. If you do come back to stay, I’m sure that you will be welcomed back with open arms.
Thanks for the video. I was stationed there in Dunoon with the US Navy. We were the last submarine base there. Brings back memories of the nice people, places. the Cowal games. On a weekend we ride the ferry from Dunoon to Gourock then train to Glasgow. Good times.
Love your tour, Claire. I was on the "Simon Lake" in Holy Loch for two years in the US Navy.. I absolutely loved the Scottish people. It was a great infuence in my life and my work. (I eventually worked in Hollywood as an actor/screenwriter, then took my work to London.) A million best wishes, Claire
Thank. I’m glad that you’re enjoying the channel. I’m just trying to get it to grow, so that it pays for itself. Then I can get further afield, and visit even more places.
I was on the Canopus. I wish I had known more about my wife's family. We didn't get married until I went back to the states. Her grandparents imagrated to the US from Greenkock. That was about six miles from the ship. It would have been fun to try to find some of her relatives. It's all changed now. I was back in '85 and '86 it was pretty much the way I rembered it. However, now places like the Bay Hotel are gone. The Brit reserve base is gone too.
I was stationed over there in the Dunoon sandbank area the American ship the Simon lake during 1969 and until June of 1970 and was able to revisit Dunoon in July and the 1st of August of 2012 as I stayed at the bed-and-breakfast craigieburn guest house along the waterfront
@@AScottishOdyssey It was nice I took a ferry over to the north side of the island with the bike and did some cycling there. When you go to Bute you should do a video I will watch it 👍.
