Dunstanburgh Castle is located on the coast of Northumberland, 25 miles south of the border with Scotland.
Built by the Earl of Lancaster in the early 14th century, it was then extended by John of Gaunt.
We visited on a misty day in August. Join us as we tour the castle.

Wonderful on a rainy day with the ability to glower at you as you approach it. It has a certain malevolence about it that infuses the landscape on such occasions.

It certainly is imposing on the landscape, regardless of the weather. Thanks so much for watching! 😁

Castle ruin in the fog. Nice addition to the mystic. Man…If these walls and grounds could talk….. Maybe if you visit after midnight on a foggy full moon night on a date a historic battle took place? 👻😉 You island guys do have an absolute sh#tload of enormous ancient castles in such a beautiful country. Luckily we do have our tiny share in that but nevertheless my jealousy makes me say; You guys deserve every drop of rain you get!.😜

I often wonder just how haunted these places are. Not sure I've got the courage to find out! You might have something with the rain/castles thing. Wales has more castles per square mile than anywhere, and it's always raining there 😂

@@relicsruins Yep, I can definitely appreciate a castle or ruin in fog or on a drizzling day. Over here we just get a tiny bit more sunshine than you (bleu😁) guys. (Sorry, a Connely fan) Jealous me just figured: You get to have all the cool castles (ruins) so you might as well get all the rain too. 😜😂 Just kidding, we do get our fair little share of everything over here so here’s a thumbs up from the Netherlands and we’re dying to see more. 👍

Hi Sue, I believe that it was built using locally sourced limestone known as Whinstone, which would have been readily available. Thanks so much for watching!
