Test writing 50 words time 5minutes. key points 1. the independent tasks require test takers to to describe, recount, or make an argument these require the test takers demonstrate more discursive knowledge of writing in addition to language knowledge Style of writing. - Describe - Recount (talk about your experiences) - Make an argument Scoring criteria - Grammatical accuracy and complexity - Lexical sophistication and diversity (vocabulary) - Length (at least 50 words) - Fluency (cohesion-grammatical order) - first question example: A university plans to develop new research center in your country. Some people want a center for business research, while others want a center for research in agriculture (farming). Which of these two kinds of research centers would you recommend, and why? ? Make argument for an option (business or agriculture research) Give two reasons. - second question example: In general, people are living longer today. Discuss some of the implications (consequences) of this phenomenon? Tips describe the implications. (Effects - changes) at least 2 examples. - third question example: Films can tell us a lot about the country where they were made. what have you learned about another country from watching its movies? Recount talks about your experiences. Pick one country, 2 things you learned give examples what you learned from those. 3. how organizing your answer: answer should include: - introduction topic sentences what you going to say. your state and position (Argumentative language) - supporting sentences - concluding sentences topic sentence example: some people believe they should keep all the money they earn and not pay tax to the state. (argumentative) answer: I disagree with the statement that individuals should keep all the money they earn and not pay taxes -for two main reasons. controlling idea) topic sentence - explain and develop main ideas reasons, examples, facts, results, statistics, or anything else that proves your idea are true. Topic sentence: I disagree with the statement that individuals should keep all the money they earn and pay taxes for two reasons. supporting sentence: First and foremost, taxpayer money collected by the government is used to fund basic amenities and public services, such as running water, schools, and hospitals. it is important to remember that without taxpayer money we would not have such basic services and our lives would be worse off as a result. - concluding sentence: what you said, important points. paraphrase of the topic sentence. example concluding sentence: In conclusion, even though many people argue that we should not pay taxes, based on the reasons discussed, I believe taxation is vital in order to maintain a high standard of living. Full example: I strongly disagree with the statement that individuals should no pay taxes to the state for two main reasons. It is important to remember that without taxpayer money we would not have access to such basic services and our lives would be worse off as a result, Additionally, Taxes help stabilize the economy. Through taxes, the government is able to pay off debts and invest in the country. which, leads to a more stable and prosperous place to live. In conclusion, even though many people argue that we should not pay taxes, based on the reasons discussed, I believe taxation is vital in order to maintain a high standard of living.

Hi Luke, thank you for your sharing those useful videos. I took IELTS ACADEMIC last week but the result is not like I expected. I got overall 6 unfortunately. For boosting my application, I must take at least 7. I suppose I will try Dualingo this time. I hope I am allowed to get over 115.

try to write at least 10 minutes every day, believe me I got a lot better in both, speaking, and writing , the more you write the faster and more fluent you get !

I was planning to take Ielts for studies purposes and I just came across Duolingo which came handy for what I need. I found online many webistes and teachers giving lessons, practical tests and correcting writing tasks for Ielts but I did not find anything like that related to Duolingo. I was wondering if you offer any sort of course or provide any services of reviewing student's writing essays. Again good work!
