Yet another piece of vintage equipment damaged by stinkin' DURACELL batteries. I am so tired of DURACELL and their leaking nonsense. They have damaged so many nice pieces of equipment.
I feel your frustration! Nearly every Duracell I’ve used leaked at one point or another. I even had a handful of unused ones leak while sitting inside the package. I can’t believe a name brand manufacturer makes such poor batteries and aren’t even trying to improve it. Their “guaranteed to last 10 years” claim is bogus.
Same here, the Duracell batteries seem to always leak, that's guarenteed. They seem to be the bottom tier parts these days. AFAIK the alkaline battery construction is inherently better protected against leaks compared to the older zinc chloride ones. Not sure if you guys have noticed this but when you look at the battery teardowns, the Duracell cells seem to be slightly pressurised, it spews out the zinc mix when punctures. Batteries from other manufacturers seem to not do that.
Fully agreed, I just found some DuraLeak batteries from 2015 that destroyed a device of mine. Also had to recently replace the 9V battery in my garage door opener's remote, and I absolutely could not get it off the 9V battery snap. One side came off, the other side refused to move and ripped the terminal off and left it behind in the snap. It took a combination of 3 different tools to pull the stub out, which was all corroded. It was replaced with a non-DuraLeak battery.
I had Duracell batteries leak in one of my two weather radios, my other weather radio "the one I rely on all the time" has dying Rayovac batteries, I might consider getting Eveready.
I've had a very similar experience with Duracell. They leak at almost every opportunity. I have no idea how batteries leak like that. It's almost as if they're designed to break open to ensure the device they are in gets ruined. I've since stopped using Duracell.
I have stopped using Duracell batteries because they leak too damn much. I now use Energizer Ultimate lithium batteries, and so far I have NOT had any leaking issues.
I feel your frustration. I used to use Duracell batteries. I had a device that sat in storage for about 5 years. I took it out of storage and the battery contacts were rusted beyond repair. I had to throw the device away that I had since brand new. Since that day, I switched to energizer and never had a problem since.
On the rare occasion where I have to use a non-rechargeable battery, it's usually the Energizer Lithium type. I've never encountered any of those leaking.
It sat in storage for 5 years, and you’re surprised that the batteries leaked? You left the batteries in a device for 5 years, and you don’t know why they leaked? Are you kidding?
The thing is I have never seen batteries Leak that bad ether, only very small leaking, but I have used Duracell batteries before and haven’t had any bad experiences with them. But sometimes they don’t last a long time.
Recently, brand new Duracell batteries totally corroded inside my 1 year old mouse. It corroded so much that the mouse stopped functioning completely even after cleaning and with new batteries. I understand your frustration. Absolutely outrageous!
Which one should I go with? Energizer or Eveready? I am going to avoid Duracell like the plague. Thank God I don't have any Duracells in my weather radio, they are Rayovac batteries instead.
I noticed tonight that 1/3 AA batteries in my yellow Handy bright flashlight didn’t look good like it was starting to malfunction I took all of the Duracell batteries out and installed Energizer batteries and it’s good again I’m glad I caught it before it was to late because I lost a couple lanterns and flashlights due to severe battery leakage. And I recently got a $30 Duracell 2500 flashlight that included all 12 AA Batteries It needed to be used that are of course Duracell. Even though the Duracell flashlight isn’t my everday flashlight due to how expensive 12 AA batteries can be I’m still nervous about using Duracell batteries for a expensive flashlight like this do you have any recommendations on another brand of AA battery I can use for both my everyday Handy bright and the Duracell that’s not the Everyday flashlight
You should use NiMh rechargeable batteries. They cost 2 or 3 times a typical alkaline battery, but can be used hundreds of times. That is what I use in my flash-lights.
@@JordanU thanks for that suggestion I’ll plan on getting for other my Handy bright flashlight and the Duracell flashlight because alkaline batteries seem to have lots of leaking issues especially Duracell batteries
So when I was using My AA dollar store battery pack with AA+ Battery and it started to leak and I throw them out and it does not work and good thing it did not catch fire
1 of my beloved Wii controllers got corroded on the plug on the bottom of the controller. Must’ve been because I used to use Duracell batteries. Now since because of that and the batteries don’t even last as long as they claim, I tend to stick to Amazon Basics batteries; which last WAY longer than Duracell, and they have never leaked as far as I’ve seen.
I agree the Jordan. Never ever use the DuraLeak or the Leakacell Batteries for the long. They will the corrode in the process. Also, that would be the 1st part of the checkout of the AT&T 1810/1820 Corded the Telephone with the digitan answering machine. I believe it has the older voice on the digitan answering machine.
I've been buying those from Costco. I just had a bunch of brand new ones leak all over the caddy I had them in. We're talking indoor southern California conditions too. I'm going to return whatever I have left.
Loll after 20 years I found all my toys blown up with this sludge.... I use energizer, never happened, even small batteries from one toy I bought. Duracell is absolutely trash
0:54 "I think that's the most material I ever seen come out of a battery." Nope. I seen much more battery acid come out of a speaker I had. The leak was so bad that the battery spring was corroded to nothing. And at work I picked up a Christmas light-up ornament from the stage. The whole bottom of it was "wet" and I freaked, knowing it was battery acid. I Iegged it to the sink to wash it off with a packet of vinegar, cursing the manager's name for buying duraleaks.
I had this happen with my Wii remote. The message popped up on the TV saying the battery had just gone. I opened the back cover and it was spirting battery acid as I watched. I had to stop my Nephew from curiously touching it. Never used them again. They used to be a trusted brand for a reason and before this happened I used them without fail. Not anymore.
@@JordanU back in the 80's they were great, but no more. They just care about the money. This video shows how cheap they've become. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WxkHC8jJjec.html
I hate Duracell. DARN DURACELL RUIN SO MEANY ELECTRONICS. MY ALARM CLOCK, MY FLASHLIGHT, MY ANALOG CLOCK, MY DANCING SNOWMAN, MY BOOMBOX, MY DIGITAL THERMOMETER, AND MORE ALL THANKS TO WONDERFUL DURACELL. Sorry but I'm totally against Duracell.
Though Duracells leaked a lot for me but the ones that say do not resale or, the one that come with devices never leaked for me on Y the ones from the store I think there’s a quality difference with the oems don’t resell ones
Are you gonna do the clear corrosion is to just get some stuff like vinegar you gotta get vinegar and use that vinegar to clear it up I don’t remember what else you use but trust me that’s what you use to clear corrosion A.k.a. battery acid
That used to be energizer did that for the longest time in the early 2000s I don’t get it we called a Duracell‘s leak O-Matic nowadays because they are I’ve had them do that new in the packet new in the packet already picked up their guts I’m starting to go back to using rechargeable AAs from Anna loop. What is now, Panasonic good old days of the rechargeable batteries wish they were still make hats but I guess I’ll take the nickel metal hydride.
@@JordanU I also found duracell quantum that I used the batteries on my CD player it leaked 8 years later just don't buy duracell it sucks buy energizer instead.
Stills real today unfortunately never had any problems with Energizer or even cheap Panasonic batteries from the dollars store or even the Kirkland signature batteries made by Duracell... Duracell branded batteries should be 🚫
I have had several devices ruined due to these crappy batteries. I contacted them and they totally blew me off. Never again will I buy Duracell. Never.
I’ve seen some batteries probably leaked IIRC, but this? Oh man, this is the worst thing I would ever see come from Duracell themselves; despite that even Xbox controllers use them, this should have not passed inspection now that I think of it. I would say though, companies need to test their batteries before they even sell it so this won’t happen if they sell them…
I deal in cameras, have for years and I advice everyone I meet, never use Duracell batteries... the number of cameras iv come across that have been in good condition but rendered dead as the contacts have been damaged.... the worst case was a nikon f301 where the base is a removable cover plate, the batteries had expended where that base was bent like a rocking chair...... I hate duracell and its company for the damage iv seen.....
I give the same advise whenever the opportunity arises. It really is a shame to think about how much good equipment has been ruined by these deplorable batteries.
I have a RC car that my grandaunt from the US brought me for Chrismas years ago. Because the controller uses a 9V battery which wasn't included and i don't have that so i can't play with it. I think it was a gift from Costco or something cuz i it was included with some Kirkland gummy bears. My grandaunt put 4 duracells inside a yellowed Ziploc bag. I just found them a few days ago and the batteries are leaking a little bit.
Those batteries are from 2007. The date shown on the batteries is when they'll expire (2017). They are not manufacturing dates. Duraleak batteries, including the Duraleak oPtImUm / qUaNtUm, all of them, SUCK!!! I have a feeling Kirkland batteries are manufactured by duracell, they explode the same way at the same times.
I hate duracell Battery, they leaks so damn much, they are a Darn Jokes and they had ruined the Terminal on some of my Toys including my favorite Toy and now my Dad had to throw them away because it's not repairable beyond their damages, not only my toys, the tv remotes in the living room and my dad's thermostat has a leak from Duracell, it should be renames to durashit or duraGarbage, I'll starting using Energizer, never buy Duracell Batteries ever Again. 😡
Durcell should change their name to Duraleak or Durashit. They'll leak in the original package with a expire date 8 years into the future. If you contact Duracell they'll try to tell you that you're using the battery wrong. I'll never use Duracell again. I don't care about a battery's capacity as much as I care about the battery not damaging my equipment.
A close friend of mine worked in r&d for duracell for a few years. I have never heard somone talk so much shit, swearing that they are the WORST BATTERY EVER MADE.
Instead of buying Duracell or Energizer batteries why dont you just buy generic batteries from Walgreens or your local grocery store? It may save you some money?
@@JordanU - She was the asking you, the Jordan, why don't the you buy any the batteries from your local the grocery store? I have so many the DuraLeak batteries they are not the worth the time to the corrosively leak.
The same thing happened to a light up Christmas decoration we used to have, this is why I hate Duracell, they are a perfect example of stuff made in China..
Any battery you use will corode eventually. But duracell is my favorite brand to buy. The only reason why this happened is because they could be from different year of model.
@@JordanU I understand that it may not, but I did a test on 2 different year type of duracell and 2 that were in the same package. The 2 that were switch around croded. I hope this helps you understand a little better. I explain better in person
