Thanks for the review and good to see that the EDF unit is accessible. I've seen one of these where the motor angle was _slightly_ out and even that little difference caused a lot of grief.

Got 2 of them…….reinforced the nose gear mount with skewers…..my second one had a badly balanced fan, so I swapped it for an FMS 4s 70mm fan and motor - no noise now. I find it quite brisk and agile in spite of no rudders. It will thermal, (power off) in the right conditions. Because the retracts are so frail, I belly land on grass……the touch down speed is very low…..no need for flaps!

Brilliant plane. I have the original version and have painted it in NZ colour scheme. The tail pieces definitely needed reinforcing, and I took the wheels off all together. Hand launch and belly land works well without the drag on take off. Installed a 12 bladed fan and this thing rocks.

rangirua1 what kind of motor and ESC you need with 12 blade fan?
@rangirua1
@rangirua1 6 лет назад
I used the original. All I changed was the fan. Used the original casing as well. Makes an awesome sound while flying.

rangirua1 Doesn't the 12 blade draw too many amps for stock motor and ESC? My ESC felt really hot when I ran 12 blade fan on it and wattmeter showed it exceeding 60amps at full throttle. I'm going to install bigger motor which should reduce it to be suitable with stock ESC. Agree with you that the 12 blade does sound awesome!

Hi love your review. The instructions dont come with duel rates High and Low and also Expo High and Low. Do you have any recommendations

Nice review Lee. If you look at the underside of the wing just in front of the middle of the retract there is a 10 mm square panel line of foam. On the original Vampire this is the cog. I have one built from a kit which is being turned into a slope soarer and I have one with all the retracts but with a Dr Mad thrust 10 blade EDF with 80 amp esc which is just being put together with fpv too . I also set the ailerons to flaps too with a little up elevator too to slow the glide down for landing otherwise it glides forever lol

+Vince Sygall is that COG you're using about 290mm from nose?

Perfect - that works for me! I've been a few mm behind that point but I'll try it there too. Thanks for posting that. Hopefully others will avoid the hiccup with their model :D

Thanks for the review.. CG is so critical in the success or failure in a model aircraft.. so why yet again ( as with Durafly ME163 komet ) can’t Durafly get this right!

Can you please do a review on the xyz Tarot flight controller please. I've got half the part for my 680 Tarot hex build and I'm looking at the xyz as a cheaper option for the A2 FC as I want feature where if one of your motor stops the craft can still fly and return home.

It'll glide really well, but you have to hold the nose down, push the stick forward a little and hold it. Balancing the fan will drop the noise significantly, if you can hear more whine than whoosh, it needs balancing. (time consuming and tricky if your EDF won't come out, but worth it) I had trouble with the nose wheel staying straight, then I worked out that the metal crimps holding the wires tight were slipping allowing a lot of slop in steering. I tightened them up and put a drop of CA on each with kicker. Steers well now, but just like when gliding you have to push the stick forward a little to keep the nose wheel down for the initial run out.And you're very right on the CG. Thanks as always!

+Ben Govett awesome tips. Is it worth showing the balance process for the EDF?

Possibly. Best video I found was ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i3zOPV5E2Bw.html which was good and comprehensive but quite long. Your videos tend to be a bit more "to the point". I couldn't get the fan unit out of my Vampire, so I used a long flat blade screwdriver to reach the cone retaining screw from the front of the fuselage. I did this before I had the wings on, so it wasn't too bad. Would be a lot of fun with the wings already on, but the power gain and whine reduction is noticeable.

This model has always caught my eye, and now even more so. And, yeah+! For the epic the Avro Vulcan bomber! Gonna mod (someday? ÷○) HobbyZone's Delta Ray to look like one. Thx, again for all the vids! :*)

+Northern FPV I have to admit it took everything I had to land it with that little damage. A few choice words were used! ;)

Then again when you land it successfully you feel like a rock star! :) This maiden of a brand new Ritewing V2 nearly ended in disaster: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3-Ji_B9WCcY.html
