I think for next year, he needs to lift up the front end about 5 to 8 inches, and put on a set of tires with a bigger steering blade in the middle. He's fast, but he was plowing the Hell out of the snow.

Could be designed more for sand, but from the video it appears the front end needs to come up a little to clear the snow. Just my opinion :-)

Can't unlock it's potential in that crap. It spent more time bashing through high spots while the other rigs were all built tall enough to just ride over it. Cool to watch, would love to see this in the sand.

That first race you just had the worst side of the track. That thing is bad ass. If I could get half as good a motor for my Landcruiser swap I'd be a happy man. Great work.

skies in front and a lightweight plastic skid plate to keep it from scoopin up snow into the air and he'd be golden

That beast is INSANE! She would have been a lot faster if she could have hooked up in that wet snow. Skis would have been awesome. Beautiful rig, and would love to see it on the sand.

I'm not familiar with sand rails but i can see a very bad handling. it's pushing itself outside on the corners. i would say it needs bigger tires and weight on the front. Why so much camber on the rear end ? Very nice engine

all it needs is a bit more travel in the front, or better shocks/coilover. those air shocks are killing it.

I've never understood why more people don't use diesels when building fun projects. Reliable, beasty, torque out the ass and they sound cool as shit.

A small sledge between front wheels would rule plus slimmer larger diameter wheels on front!!! You'll half your Times almost I bet? Plus a lovely engineblock and performance!!! A+!!

I don't get it, why do they want to blow black smoke??? I ran dozers, cranes, etc. and if we blew black smoke it was due to not getting the air you needed for good power..

Interesting build, but with all my experience with sandrails, Ive always been taught a light rig is better than a heavy one. And that engine is HEAVY. Sweet build but i think if i was going diesel i would have gone with a well built 4bt cummins, much lighter

Seems awful heavy for that application, guess that's why you mainly see them in giant 4x4 trucks where the weights not an issue.. Looked like even half the low budget gassers walked away... I'd like to see or help someone rig up twin Hayabusa motors with one driving each rear wheel and equip it with electronic traction control fly by wire throttling control to provide vectored thrust by also adding in steering data and 6 axis electronic gyro stabilization! Then you would have something with an obscene power to weight ratio with some serious advanced handling characteristics never before seen! You could just leave it matted and steer where you want to go without fear of flipping while hitting it with everything possible to keep it just about to flip and keep you planted back in the seat... The electronics is there and dirt cheap, why nobody tries it is a mystery...

Put some ski's in front and lift the suspension a little.

In racing you can win/lose, have a good set up/bad set up, have a good track/poor track. Notice how there wasn't a fun/not fun category this doesn't need explaining.

It's funny how everyone says "but it's build for sand". No. No it's not. That is what sand rails looked like in 1985. Sand rails started changing in 1995 and since 2005 have used long travel suspension, wider and taller front tires and have had significantly more ground clearance. Go to Glamis or Pismo and you'll still see relics that look like this, but they are not the ones that are winning competitions.
