I really loved Andy Taylor. He brought some really hot rock riffs into Duran Duran. He was part of their unique sound. They are all talented, beautiful people who make amazing music. It is just a shame they all won't be making it together. Andy - you are a man who will be missed in Duran Duran by your fans. I hope you will continue making music! You're a true artist.
Amazing... AgentStarling13's comment is from fifteen years ago... And it's as true today as it was then. There would be no Duran Duran as we know and love today without our Andy. We love you, Andy!!! Thanks as always for the great music!! ✌😎🤘
As a 47 y.o. life-long guitar player and Duran fan for 25+ years Andy has a unique signature that I can pick out on any of their songs with him on board. Without him they are 4/5 DD, and that is sad. I enjoyed seeing them 15th row for this tour which rocked. Thanks for posting this vid!!!! One for the favorites vault!
I fortunate to see Andy play live with them when they came to DC two years ago during the Astronaut tour. Andy chainsmoked through the whole concert...but nothing beats hearing the real deal....and Andy was the real deal.
The best Andy Taylor live vid I ever saw was Power Station on Sat. Night Live' They did Bang a Gong and Some like it Hot and Andy did a blistering solo!
To me, Andy was extremely underrated as a member of the band. It felt like as the band grew in popularity, it became more of "The Nick Rhodes Show" as opposed to Duran Duran. It also seems that squabbles aside, at some point or another nearly everyone left the band. Even Simon was ready to call it quits after 'Pop Trash', but the reunion of the five kept things going. I still want to hear the album with Andy that was scrapped in favor of 'Red Carpet Disaster'... think it was called 'Reportage'.
Thanks for this vid! Been a fan since '83 and a electric guitar player for 30+ years. Andy has his own signature style and timing; no one can replace him in DD for their early stuff. Their current hired gun is delayed in his timing, the older songs don't sound right, and it shows in the other band member's respective performances. The 'Classic Albums' DVD of Rio shows the other band members at different points musing over Andy's contributions. I hope they can reconcile again!
OMG! Thank you so much for posting this! Andy Taylor has always been the "unforgotten"....he is a beast on the guitar and I will love him forever for changing my life!
Thank you for this awesome close-up footage! I could watch as many shows as possible only standing on the right side of the stage and appreciating Andy Taylor performing!
along time ago, I was a metal head, the typical metal head, and I hated DD with a passion, then I saw pictures of Andy hangin with Paul Stanley and then heard his solo album and saw the players on it. I was confised, I went back and check out the DD stuff and he blew me away...to this day he is one of my favorite musicians and writers...ANDY TAYLOR IS THE SHIT!! He rocks!!!
I know several metal heads that have admitted that there are DD songs that they liked. I would bet it had something to do with certain guitar riffs by Mr. Taylor himself. :) Interestingly enough, the songs that got their attention were their older stuff like "Union of the snake" that they like.
@@bobbyarp8 People that can't move beyond Hungry Like the Wolf/Rio and haven't heard the rest of their catalog/solo ventures. They just don't know what they're missing. Andy ROCKS!!!
Andy is what got this band over in the US all those years ago...he was the ingredient that made a great band iconic .those rock riffs ontop of killer basslines and ambient keys ..Simon's voice on top was perfect for the music...but Andy's rock riffs separated them from the pack in the US
are you kidding me?!?!? I saw them with Warren*lol* I loved that line up too...very cool stuff!! Andy is to DD as to what ACE Frehley is to KISS...there might be great musicians to follow, but you can never take away that first magic that made them who they are.
+HT Istanbul I miss Andy too! He IS the original DD guitarist and his style best suits DD!!!!!!! Andy please, PLEASE make DD complete & perfect by returning, PLEASE!!!!!!!
No...Andy left the band. TWICE. Everybody keeps forgetting that. TWICE. Obviously, he doesn't care about the band or the fans. I'm not going to waste time/energy on wishing that he'll return. Enjoy the band for what they were or what they are or both. MALE DD fan since '80. First concert; the Greek 7/27/82. I know what I'm talking about. The original Fab Five? Wonderfully amazing. However, change is inexorable and Andy made his choice. TWICE!
Andy Taylor is simply the best!! I miss him greatly. He was the edge in DD and is an amazing musician. None of us will ever know the full story to why he left. As long as he is happy, I'm good. He is my biggest celebrity crush of all time.
Same!! Had to have sunglasses just like his in View to a Kill 🤭 Totally love Andy!! My guitar playing friends have mad respect for his chops once I turned them on to Thunder 😎
The head of Capitol Records said he was told by another executive at a competing company that Andy was a ___. In the DD documentary this is all on film. They indicated he was difficult to work with. Also shown: He sued DD with many different complaints. Their lawyer said Andy just wants to sue DD . Who would want to work with someone like that no matter how good their skills?
Oh how ironic..in Ordinary World one line says "where's my friend when I need you most".. Andy needed the Duran Duran members and they ditched him when he needed them the most..
Good On Ya Andy! We miss you!! This is the way the songs were MEANT to be played! And he kicks WC's butt on OW... WC is crap... always has been... always will be... Go Andy!!
Warren is one of the best in the world hands down, half of those riffs are his. He also dragged them kicking and screaming into the new millenium, to say he's crap is disrespectful to say the least. He also spent longer in the band than Andy Taylor, I love Andy Taylor as does everyone, but from a musical standpoint Warren is superior in every way. If you want proof just look up his solo stuff, as Nick and Simon said a "virtuoso". Also a gay porn star 😂😂🤣
According to Andy..NR is a controlling verbally abusive tosser. He's very impaitent, rude and stuck up and he's this way with everyone in the band. He goes out of his way to make them feel bad when he's not pleased with someone in the band. Not saying the rest of DD are angels. As for Andy leaving twice yeah he did but the second time around he had personal problems and he couldn't take NIcks' "abuse", and there was some tension with Si and JT. You would think someone would stand up to Nick but
That's right, but he commented that DD and him parted ways for other reasons. Whatever I miss Andy Taylor in DD, he provided the perfect rock balance that the band needs, I'm sorry Andy's return lasted just one album and I'm a little sorry that RCM went so electronic (anyway it has some nice songs)
Sorry to say I've been a Duranie now 40 yrs plus I don't miss him sorry never happy never smiles I prefer Dom brown as least he enjoys himself smiles and plays that lead guitar 🎸 like butter
I agree with the poster who said, 'listen to the music, forget the people.' The more you dig into these guys (as with MANY other bands) the more you kind of hate them. The only one of them for me, who I hold no judgement over is Roger, who, according to the rest of them, never touched drugs, was always quite shy and reserved and got pushed around a lot by the others. He's also an excellent drummer. I love new wave, but the band members are usually just like other genre's band members.
Fans have to understand that Andy Taylor left Duran Duran to pursue his solo career back in the mid 80's (Notorious Album), then, he returned in 2000 for the Astronaut album but, left in 2005 after the recording of the infamous, never to be released album Reportage. I love Andy for what he musically brung to Duran Duran but, I will not try to explain his reasons for leaving the band 2 times. Remember, not everyone in a band can get along, no matter how much beautiful music they make together. Remember The Police?
JT did try when they started recording Astronaut , but as expected Nick makes JT back down from taking any control of the group by saying he was useless the first time around being zonked all the time so no point of him hanging around the studio either this time around. This is all from Andy's book ..you should check it out..there are many rows featuring NR
@@Oksana7305 they weren't. It's all in Andy's book. But I wonder what happened between them after his second departure from the band because they don't even speak anymore with him. None of them, even John with whom Andy was the closest, JT didn't even say thanks to him in his book, he thanked to everyone except Andy..🤷♀️
I want Andy back. Wthout andy´s guitar it´s always something missing in duran duran sound. It´s not complete. Compare the sales from astronaut and Red Carpet Massacre and take your conclusions. Mr Nick Rhodes and the other band members should read the fans opinions ande take their own conclusions.
IMO, Andy Taylor is the best musician among the five, he's the one with the edge. The band is started by John and Nick, Andy is the last to join, without Andy's contribution to the band sound, DD would sound like a synth band
I don't agree. True, the four guys have a more common understanding amongst each other, but Andy helped make the band the supergroup they had become and that is not to take for granted. I believe music should involve absolute diversity, and having a guy like Andy adding riffs to a new wave style flavors things. Crossing my fingers that Andy comes back in and that they make common agreements and continue making great music.
As well as he should. After reading Andy's book..I've decided to stick to listening to their music..to know anything about them outside of music is sad ..D2 are not people I would want to know personally espcially Nick!!
in a perfect world we would like to see the original band perform live if we went to see them, i was lucky enough to see DD original line-up in glasgow 2005, watching AT, SLB & JT interact on stage was something very special to see, i miss andy taylor but still love what DD.
Actually, the riffs on Notorious were played by Nile Rodgers who also produced the album of the same name. Ordinary World is due to Warren and Save A Prayer is Andy's.
Woaw, I love this awesome band.. I only have 19 and I have almost all the albums of them. They rocks... My favorite song is "ordinary World", for me is the best song, I even met them whit that song in the 93, when I only had 5 years old, ha ha ha ha ha... xD
Bass always had a special place my heart and John was always my favorite. But I must admit in insight that this band has no traction without Andy. His part was not always front and center but it was the special ingredient that made the music special. To me there is no Duran Duran without Andy, no matter how much they may try.
@@JOHNNYSGIRL1960 Good for you if you like him and the band since Andy's departure. But for me it's like the band doesn't exist since 1985 as I don't really care for anything they've done after 'A view to a kill'...
I agree. They are living off the spirit of their back catalogue. If they were just starting out with that music, would they be as famous? I doubt it. Then again, singles and records dont make you money, live shows do and as long as we are paying them wads of money worldwide for them and us to enjoy each other, good on them. But the albums...they need a radical rethink. I couldnt pick one song from the new album and place it in their first three albums when they were top of the world
I really like the way Andy Taylor plays. Towards the end of the first Duran run, he was getting more volume real estate in their live sound, and that was a good thing:
The coolest of all!! I miss Andy so much in the band... Andy has musical personality, and his guitar and backing vocals are so remarkable, no comparison to any others... But he makes DD a real rock n roll band.
It's a real shame Andy left Duran. But I could see his heart wasn't in it a few times. And smoking on stage is actually illegal seing as the smoking ban had been in order ages ago before this concert. I'm surprised no one told him to put it out. Bad attitude. I think. Dom is always much happier. And definitely seems to enjoy his work.
i love andy taylor!!! but i love duran duran too!!! so with or without andy duran duran is still duran duran!!! buy red carpet cd cause its really amazing!!!! giannis/greece
I know everyone wants Andy back in the band but it ain't gonna happen. Something is broken and unfixable between Andy and the rest of the band. They had to deal with lawsuits and a lot of BS after Andy left the first time. Still, Nick and Simon made the effort to get him back on board, which they were successful at eventually, but the rest of the band has stated that the relationship with him is "unworkable". I will give them all kudos that they haven't chosen to publicly air their personal grievances.
Can you IMAGINE what they might have came out with had they gotten along and all stayed together this whole time? It ain't the same without Andy, but they're still good.
Tbf they have done really well without him with exception of red carpet massacre which i actually really liked but didn't sell well. Andys replacement plays just like him. But yes be great have all five back
Why Can't Andy just be his age the matured person he is and rejoin Duran Duran. they'reold enough to know that work is work and money is money whats all this leaving the band like int he 80's shit for? like little kids. Duran Duran legacy must continue and more albums. Andy make the group complete again like in the 80's and 2000's
Duran fan in the 80s here. My brother HATED that I loved Duran Duran. When Andy left and I bought his solo album Thunder, my brother said it was awesome and he got bought a copy. He said Andy was better off being a rocker. Since Andy left, I don't care much about Duran anymore. My dad still teases me about Duran, even at 37 years too old!! LOL
MY 2 CENTS: Andy Taylor showing why he so inventively bridged his influences from Chic, Bad Company, Deep Purple, T.Rex and Pink Floyd to give Duran Duran their unique sound. No other "replacement" guitarist can touch his talent. Nick Rhodes is an everlasting douchebag for driving Andy out of the band twice. Now Duran Duran have to rely on crappy hip-hop beat producers to try and reinvent themselves.
Perfect example of how individual members contribute to a group's dynamic. Even as good as Warren Cuccurullo was- it just wasn't Duran Duran. Andy brought an energy and personality to the group that was a part of its identity.
I won't hear a bad word said about Warren or Andy they're both very different types of guitarist, although I admit I prefer Andy (and I thought he was a nice bloke when I met him) Warren made an huge contribuion to some of their best tracks. Without either of them the last album suffered, I was so unimpressed I've refused to buy it or go to any of the shows and that's a first for me, I've followed them since the begining.
they arent half as good without andy. i have been a DD fan since they started out and he has ALWAYS been my favorite member. a very unique player and very underrated inthe music business.
It's just sooo sad. I was looking forward to astronaut for ages. - Along it came, and about half of it was great. Although I was gutted by the abridged WGTHT. Then the over-produced single version! Then worst of all - Nice never got a UK single release!! The one track on the album which really captured the essence of "night version" Duran of yore! Anyhow - I will always hold Andy in high esteem. His playing on those early 12"s and their b-sides inspired me to play guitar too. Still going!
Andy is great, but the truth i, he doesn`t shine without Duran Duran. He had a great and positive influence in Duran Duran, but he is too much pride, he prefered stay alone with them. Duran Duran will have to find another excellent guitar player like Andy now. Altough ,thank you Andy for Duran Duran , rio, Seven and the Ragged tiger and Astronaut albums.
The best guitarist for Duran Duran is Andy Taylor. It's a shame he was booted for the overproduced sound Duran has decided to go with. This clip right here is a prime example of the positive edge Andy brings to Duran Duran. The live shows are dull without him.
People need to get A REAL PERSPECTIVE of the guitar situation ; the notion DURAN was NEVER the SAME w/ o Andy is the BIGGEST & most OVER- RATED MYTH in music history . He deserves credit for helping the band reach super- stardom and was FANTASTIC on the POWERSTATION ; but if he was SO GREAT , why didn't he have a SOLO CAREER of SUBSTANCE ? Hell he isn't even the LOCAL GUITAR INSTRUCTOR @ this point ; the TRUTH is Warren Cucurullo recorded TWICE as many records as Andy as a member, contributed great energy, creativity , hard core gifts, and comes from a Frank Zappa pedigree ; He never should have been KICKED OUT when the REUNION was formed given all he did; they still could have done the REUNION w/ Warren , and let's BE REAL ; the way he was BOOTED OUT was WRONG; much more so than Andy QUITTING TWICE; Andy started going downhill soon after releasing the ONE SOLO record , was fortunate to be asked to do the reunion given his drugged out washed up state, and if anyone bothered to listen to EVERY POST ANDY ROGER Duran record, u would KNOW BETTER ; u would understand that Warren co - contributed to a better outcome for Duran Duran ; though Dom Brown is capable, Duran is not quite the same w/o Warren Cucurullo ; thats the REALITY as it stands now ...they're still BOMB ASS w/ o Andy ; and way better off
Great edit of Andy with D2. I can't wait to get his book and read it cover to cover in one sitting ^_^ I'd also like to get 'Notorious' (the book), and I've heard there is something in the works called "There Is Something You Should Know"- saw it on IMDB, but no idea how to get a hold of it. I don't know if it's video or a book. I want to know mainly why Andy came back for Astronaut, then left right after. On the Astronaut DVD (that came with the CD), he said he was happy to be back. Much Luff!
Get back to the studio ,roll up your sleeves, and finish what you started andy, your still going to live thur this, and all the fans will love you for it,the wild boys are waiting for your return, green tea, smile and breath in the air my friend, you must miss us,because we all dodododo, love peace and get back to dd now, then I'll shut up.
Sorry to see Andy go as there's always difference off appinon trying to get your part or piece co tributed to a song but not taking Andys part but Nick always got his way most off the time it's happened more than once and he got pissed off.. I read his book and he got some off my respect back as he wasn't too face or sleezy as I didn't 4give hi. 4 leaving the band twice but good luck Andy in your career x.
