@@petem7118 indeed. I'm the opposite to what you'd call a Duran Duran fan, and I grew up with them during high school. And yet this one song - last track on the Rio album - is glorious. If there's anything else by them, then only Save A Prayer or Planet Earth are worth checking out.
This is probably my favorite version of THE CHAUFFEUR. Simon’s vocals are incredible, Nick’s keyboards are haunting, and they all look drop dead gorgeous. D2 forever.
When my friends were listening to KISS I was listening to DD- always liked the electronic styled music a bit more, and the 80s had plenty of that . Plus, Nick Rhodes was always a stylish dude. Still is I see.
He sounds great here, unlike a live performance of DD doing Election Day I just watched. They did not sound good, yet people in the comments were raving. People are tone deaf.
As a foreigner,I had no idea what they were singing when i was 20.When I listen that song on my headphones,i was nearly crying.I just said to myself:,,Who on earth composed that song?Must have been from space...``what a musicians!!!!and secondly WHAT A VOICE!?.Now still after many many years I am still addicted.
Sorry it is a great song but Simon does not have a good voice at all. I saw them live back in ‘85 and I can tell you he can’t sing live. Autotuning is perfect for him. Having said that, it sounds good on record and the music is awesome
Rudy Arce Simon is singing totally OFF KEY. He does so consistently. I’m not a hater but I absolutely adore him and his vocals. Generation x,peace out fellow DD guy 😉🐨✌️
I agree with Todd Fraise’s comment above: the range or key might be lower here than the original studio. I get it, but his voice has gotten stronger with time and smoother like Todd said. Summon was not out of tone here, different key, but solid. As Vocal cords age, they can’t vibrate as high pitch as before. And you know that. I was taking that into consideration when I made my comment. You’re a hard critic. Great performance in general 🙂
Todd, I totally agree with you! He might he older now, I get it, it’s hard to sing high pitch, but his overall performance here in my opinion is flawless. The whole band’s performance was great 👍🏽
03:50 - 5:24 so dreamy, hypnotic and intoxicating. Simon's performance on the pipe is outstanding, and keyboards with guitar and bass are crushingly sensual, compressing such intensity into a Bacchic trance!
Seriously - these guys can perform. They were not just overly synthesized 80s crap..,their live performances were ALWAYS as good as their studio albums. Pretty rare in today’s music landscape.

This song still has the same effect on me now as when the first time I heard it. So subtle, so sultry, so erotic. This song is a true tour de force. Absolutely sensual and extraordinary!
This and Save A Prayer, two best tracks ever. At his best Simon le Bon superb vocalist. Love DD. Always transport me back to good times early 80's. Privileged.
Nice to know Simon's voice hasn't really changed. This song in particular is one that requires a particular kind of tone and intent to pull off, but once he gets into it, the performance is pretty much as vibrant as the classic '84 concert.
His voice has actually gotten much better over time. You can tell he has meticulously cared for his "instrument" and learned much since those days in the 80's (and that disastrous "note heard round the world" at LiveAid).

If you're British and grew up reading Smash Hits, do you remember the Anti Duran Duran League? Such hatred for a band! Us "Duranies" took a lot of flack! Listening now, all these years later, I can appreciate how skilled and talented they were (instead of just having a crush on each of them at one time or another!)
Best song by Duran Duran!! this song shows how really talented they are,they need to spend more time doing there own stuff like this&showing how musically brilliant they are..
Even in his 60s, Simon sings this song beautifully and it takes some effort. Probably the most beautiful song they've ever done, and I say this as an old-school Duranie who thought Save a Prayer was the pinnacle when I was a pre-teen. Even then I knew this song was special though. Exquisite.

When I was young I liked ''Wild Boys'' ''Union of the Snake'''etc but ''The Chauffer''.....What I've been missing all this years. Thank you D-D for this song. I can't get enough of this song.
Great song. It's good to see all the boys again. I saw them at the San Diego Sportsarena in 1984. One of the best times of my life and probably 60 concerts later, that night in San Diego was the best concert I have ever seen. Simon is definitely a showman. I remember Simon jumping off 15 stairs, and sliding around on his knee pads and at the end of the concert, Simon nailed John and Andy I think it was, with pies. The concert was so loud, it took me hours to stop sounding like I was sucking on helium. I will never forget that. And if I become deaf early in age, it was all worth it.
“Rio”, an incredible album, finishes with this song and all i could think is how quickly i could flip the album over to hear it all again. Great live performance
I remember buying a flute just to learn the part he plays with the ocarina. I was obsessed with it's exotic and intoxicatingly elegant sound. To this day I still remember every riff and note from this song. My wife laughs everytime I hear it because it sends me looking for the old flute to show her I still got it..So many great memories, such a timeless masterpiece.
Just perfection , after all these years and they can still produce this , well . Brilliance . I wish I had aged that well and learnt the guitar . "Who are those guys" .
