This is why Duran Duran was called the world's first Metrosexuals - Males with great fashion sense. They brought lite erotica to the artiest levels in their 80s videos.
Yeah. Where does the other version exist? Honestly, this version is fairly new to me. I remember one where there was a limo driving around some private jet sitting on a tarmac. I can't seem to find it on here.
Such a shame about that video; it really detracts from the lyrics of Girls on Film. That song was so ahead of its time. Simon Le Bon said something along those lines, himself.
The song is deep, dark, mysterious. Telling of a chauffeurs secret obsession in love with one of his passengers. For whatever reason he cannot tell her how he feels, he is tormented by it.
Thank you PMD for reacting to The Chauffeur, scratching the surface of their catalog reveals plenty of treats. Duran Duran have always had a certain way women are depicted in their videos, usually powerful, ageless and uninhibited.
Oh and while I'm not entirely sure that they would appeal to you, you ought to check out Japan (maybe Quiet Life or Gentlement Take Polaroids) as they were a massive influence on early Duran Duran
As a decades long Duran Duran fan (first concert 2/2/1984 in Seattle - and at least 20 more) I can attest that I have seen dozens of "Sing Blue Silver" tattoos on fans throughout the years at concerts. The simple reason is - Simon LeBon's voice is absolutely perfect when he sings this part of this song (2xs). Absolutely classic, memorizing Simon voice in it's prime. While the video is Duran Duran brilliance, it often distracts some from the incredible lyrics and Simon's voice at his ultimate best! Sing Blue Silver!
Couldn't agree more!! I actually just requested Arcadia and Power Station as new to the channel artists for next week. So Red the Rose is definitely a masterpiece album. There isn't a bad song.
@@dipsydoodle7988 I completely agree!! PMD will LOVE John’s bass with Power Station especially on Some Like It Hot and Arcadia’s Election Day with Grace Jones is my favorite. 🔥🔥
I think this is my favorite Duran Duran song from the time I bought this album the week it was originally released. It easy to hear that it is a well done and unique song overall and yes it is a vibe but... I honestly think unless you lived in that time at a certain age (about my age) it's really hard to get a full measure of this vibe. In a way the visuals and the music itself somehow capture the actual feel of the early through mid to late 80's in a tiny little vignette so so well. The video was definitely inspired by the song and especially the wardrobe/vibe/etc is far more how the 80's felt in terms of a certain demographic I guess. The only other bands/songs I can think of that do something very very similar without at all being documentary but capture the way that era just FELT with a very strange combination of decadent exuberance combined with a tiny bit of foreboding and a pinch of bittersweetness... Possibly the strange album released in the mid 80's by Deep Purple which had been sorta retired for a while prior to that. And believe it or not... The Bangles hazy shade of winter captured that same vibe... I guess you'd have to live it to get it the same way. It's not specific in the words/lyrics, it's the totality of it. Hard to put into a few words but in a way it was a very strange mix of a decade in so so many ways. Especially for those coming of age into adulthood throughout it.
As someone who was coming of age at that time, I couldn’t have said it any better. There’s no easy way to describe what the world was like at that time, but I’m so glad to have experienced it.
THANK YOU so much for reacting to this video!!! I was so excited last week when you heard the song on the album. This video was released almost 40 years ago and it is so mind blowing how ahead of their time Duran Duran were with their visuals and music. Both still stand the test of time. As you can imagine, this video was not shown on MTV (either was the the night version of Girls on Film). The only way to see these was to rent them at the video store. Duran Duran were the first to feature models in their videos, especially so extensively throughout their career. My personal favorite is Girl Panic, which includes supermodels Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon (Simon's gorgeous wife) Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Eva Horzigova. It's a MUST wear full glam reaction - make up, wig, everything.
@@alfaduko Agree!! PMD, if you do react to Girl Panic...please make sure it’s the official, full length video. Will be just over 9 mins and is filmed mockumentury style. It’s full GLAM with the super models. You will love it!!
I have still got the Video Tape that was released by mistake that Duran Duran released with videos from their first album and second album. This track and Girls on Film gave parents a nightmare but just increased the popularity of the group between teenage Duranies.
Awesome song, puts me in a trance, the video is confusedly, beautifully artistic - and with your aesthetic appreciation for Duran Duran, bass and Simon's vocals the heartbeat and spirit of the track itself... Okay before I begin writing a poetry, keep up the amazing work and thank you for another great video.
Duran Duran is my all-time favorite band. This song is about a woman who is heartless and I only say that because of the one line where is says she is smiling as lover part. I love the fact that their music was sometimes a puzzle to solve because it made me think about all the possibilities. In the early days their videos were either very artsy and stylistic or they were in exotic locations. Either way, they had the best videos on MTV and I'm not bias at all, LOL! Some of the more risque' videos, like this one and Girls On Film, were played on MTV's after-hours rotation.
If you enjoy this darker, esoteric side of Duran Duran you should check out JAPAN, who heavily influenced Duran Duran, in music and style. JAPAN were an English band, starting off in the late 70s as a glam rock style band they soon took on the influences of Roxy Music and Bowie a few years ahead of Duran Duran. JAPAN mistimed their change of style preceding the New Romantic movement and were on the way out when Duran Duran ascended and took the mantle they missed out on. This is a track that typifies their more popular sound... "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" was in my opinion their strongest album, of which this was the title track. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wEdX0veLihM.html
I specifically searched for a react to this lifetime favorite of mine and now YOU are my new favorite because you love Duran Duran!❤️❤️❤️ They are so incredible! Subscribed😘
I love this song! And the video, too. I haven't heard it in donkey's years and listening to it today brought all sorts of memories. And I'm amazed that I still remember the lyrics and was singing along.
Another great reaction video..... I see you have the DD bug....... I don’t know if anyone has mentioned Arcadia - Duran Duran took time out in 85 - Simon nick and roger formed Arcadia and released a few singles and an album so red the rose.... still very much Duran Duran but kind of the darker arty side of them.... it’s an amazing album and the videos you will love !
You are a star you make me lol 🙂 your brilliant awesome and fantastic!!!! You can understand why I'm a Duranie over 40 years they are amazing they are good with everything they do!!!! I'm so so so glad you enjoyed the vocals guitar 🎸 and the video!!! Well done keep up the good work!!!! Listen to notorious funky tune!!!! I'll keep an eye out for you like I always do buddy!!!!
If you would like more DD recommendations, I would like to see what you think of "Too Much Information". It's from the Wedding Album era (1993-ish), and the video is almost the complete polar opposite of this one - high tempo, flashy lights, vibrant colors. etc. It's also one of their most underrated videos, at least in my opinion.
I don't know really, but to me I've always felt they with this video showed they supported the LGBT community and I was so young sk I just loved them more for it.
The lyrics were written by Simon Le Bon as poetry, several years before Rio had even begun. Le Bon's lyric book dates from 1977. duranduran.fandom.com/wiki/The_Chauffeur
This is probably THEE BEST song Duran Duran ever made!!! Everything about this is so sensual, sexy, &...well....this particular video has made me question if I'm truly straight or bi because the way they all danced so seductively gave me a huge metaphorical woody! And your facial expressions to this were great! Had me laughing!
Love watching your reactions. I'd love to see some some Human League, without disappearing down into vibes. Sound of the Crowd, Down You Want Me, Empire State Human, Human, Keep Feeling Fascination. I lhope you'd love you love them.
Jeez, I hadn't heard this in a LONG time. I have most of their songs still (as a bit of a guilty pleasure) but this SOOO reminds me of being in like 7th grade. As I got a bit older teen, always saw DD as a bit "bubble gum" and so liking them was a guilty pleasure for me. Still is somewhat, perhaps less so.
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude I actually went to a DD concert while in my 30s, and they were totally washed up. Still, it was great, felt like a happy 12 year old getting to see them when i could actually afford a concert.
@@redsmoker37 They had a rough few years back in the late '90s--early 2000's, but I saw them live at Red Rocks in Colorado in 2015 and thought the show was fantastic!
@@redsmoker37 That was probably the Red Carpet Massacre tour. Certainly not their best effort and a weird choice of direction. I don’t blame ya for seeing it that way. They will never have the same level of fame they did in the ‘80s or even the early ‘90s again. But they have continued to make great music since then anyway. The album ‘All You Need is Now’ from 2011 is a good example.
the great thing about music videos from the 80s is that they felt no need to be literal. There is nothing more boring than a video where the lyrics say "She stood by the window" and the video shows a woman standing by a window.
I just subscribed to your channel . I’ve never seen this video posted . It’s too racy for television . At least back in the day it was . Simon is playing that little wind instrument . It’s an epic song in my book and not well known
