The clip was filmed at the Kurnell sand hills in the south of Sydney 1983 It the 70’s we used to play there, sliding down the hill on cardboard Sadly the sand hills don’t exist anymore All the sand was mined and the land reclaimed for residential near the beach and industrial area further away Suppose the clip captured a slice of our history
Nick Rhodes is one of the most talented keyboardist out there maybe not the most technical but his style is beautiful and sad he never gets enough credit for how talented he is very underrated keyboardist great song and great band Duran Duran!!!
My dad was a great fan of Duran Duran and he would always put their music on when I was a little kid. After years and years of listening to them I became a fan too! Now we both dance and sing to their songs together:)
Truly an unforgettable song and video that has thrived for a generation and a half. Forty years after its debut it still resonates. Duran Duran was unique to say the least!
They've been touring America on their Futurepast tour. They've been performing their new material as well as their old. I've noticed they don't perform the Union of the Snake at all, which is one of my favourites.
Hello Laura, I think you look pretty on your page, I don't normally write on the comment section but i think you deserve the compliment. I just thought i should say Hi and hopefully see where it'll lead. Hope you're doing fine ?
Nick Rhodes use of synths in all their songs was just amazing, and you are so right, it really brought something incredibly special to their songs. I've listened to New Moon on Monday so many times purely because of the synths.
My now 30 year old son, when he was a toddler, loved their greatest hits cd. He either couldn't say Duran Duran, or couldn't remember it, but he called them The Group. I was always hearing 'Mommy please play The Group' 😊
Ruben Delgadillo I agree about the Hall of Fame. It takes forever to get into the Hall of Fame ELO was just now inducted. Someday soon hopefully Duran Duran will be on the ballot.
Rock and Roll is a much broader term than many think. Those who think this person shouldn't be in or that person shouldn't be because they don't fit their narrow definition of rock and roll are missing the point entirely. Otherwise, do they think that Chuck Barry, Bill Haley and the Comets, Fats Domino, or any of those older singers shouldn't be in there either,? There is no one type of rock and roll music. Whether it's pop, rock, heavy metal, new wave, alternative, whatever it's all rock and roll. Let's not forget rock and roll itself is an amalgam of music that started before it like blues, country, and soul. That's why people are inducted, they may not fit your definition of rock and roll but they fit someone's. So to answer your question. Yes, I think Duran Duran should be in.
Keyboard intro grabs you INSTANTLY....and then the bass begins to caress your synapses!! Delicious eighties fayre delivered to your ears with a side-serving of marvellous stereophonic dolby.....shaba!!
Why the 80's music ruled. Videos weren't just videos, but artful trips into madness put to a great soundtrack. With Duran Duran being one of the best at making no sense, yet all the sense in the world.
Las voces, el requinteo, que bonito sonido de la guitarra. Supongo que la letra es bonita (no he revisado la traducción). Que siga viviendo Duran Duran en nuestros corazones en 2024 !!
I remember seeing these guys in concert shortly after the Calgary Saddledome opened in Calgary in 1983. I was working there , so got to see them from the penalty box! Lol. What a night! What awesome, AWESOME performers! With our arms held high, waving over our heads. I was 21 then. How important they were ( and, in some ways, still are ) I wouldn't trade my age for anyone if it meant losing those memories! From then, they only got even better! Bless you all!
@@ColtraneTaylor o yes Duran Duran were considered Preppy so to admit to liking them was to be gay. I didn't agree, it helped me to believe that music doesn't make divisions, it breaks barriers. Kenny Rogers, and Sheena Easton had a big hit together. That was grade eight in 83. In grade nine preppy guys were getting dates so there you go.
who else here loves the 80's and Duran Duran like me? Who remembers crashing out in front of the TV and watching MTV videos 24/7 like me? Oh what I wouldn't do to have those days back man.
@Amanda, I think you look pretty on your page, I don't normally write on the comment section but i think you deserve the compliment. I just thought i should say Hi and hopefully see where it'll lead. Hope you're doing fine ?
@@rebjiii You need to reevaluate both your spelling (you're not Prince) and your flawed manner of overthinking a theme. Music doesn't have to make sense to be a masterpiece; it just has to sound right. Music is NOT subject to the same laws as film and writing. That SHOULD be obvious, but you're so brain-dead that I had to spell it out for you.
@@gunslingergirl2579 really ? your criticism of my comment is that I typed 'U' instead of 'you' .....your taste in music SUCKS if you think Union of Snake is a quality song......DD has lots of excellent songs.....this piece of crap is not one of them
Duran Duran not only set the standard for cinematic music videos but also raised the bar for every pop band on MTV that followed. This video was probably shot on 35mm film. It's a shame that this 360p version doesn't reflect the print quality of the original. A 4K transfer would be spectacular. In fact: I would pay to see all of Duran Duran's top videos on the big screen with a 4k transfer and THX sound.
66 Films Completely agree. And that's an excellent idea. I mentioned the same about their own Official View To A Kill video. You'll see the minute or so has been muted (just edit it out if you don't have the rights to the film audio) & is shockingly in an even lower pixel definition than this one. That and it's only a DD representation but James Bond as well. It deserves so much better in this day and age. Surely they can get a 4K video review underway already. Seems only right for such a forward looking group and their fans.
Yes indeed it was shot on 35mm! I believe the first of their videos to be shot that way. Their famous Antigua and Sri Lanka videos were all 16mm I believe (but definitely deserve a proper remaster...I wonder if the OCNs still exist somewhere.)
I just hope the films still exist in good condition, because this is simply a recording of a telecine encoded into 640x360 compressed video. I've been using this video with some recent A! upscaling algorithms like DAIN and ERGAN lately, and produce blurry trash through most of it with maybe a few keyframes here and there looking fairly slick. I imagine with an actual digitized raw film transfer it could be quite good.
Totally agree, the 80's had the best music in fact best everything (even tho times were tough) and music and fashion was diverse. We had New Romantics, punks, Mods, Rockers, Goths etc etc and although we all made out we hated each genre we actually didn't and respected each other. The punks hair was amazing and use to quite often take them hours to do and they used to use soap, glue and cans of hairspray to hold it in place and the colours were amazing and I remember being in awe of the hair (not that I wanted it) These days everyone looks the same and the music is boring and samey and groups call themselves bands BUT how can they be bands when they can't play an instrument? Back in the 80's they were bands as most could play at least one instrument. Ahhhhhhh the 80's *starts dreaming* Lol
This song rocks & always has done - proper attitude!! It's my most favourite song of theirs. I'm now 49 and feel incredibly spoilt to have spent my entire teenage years adoring the ground they walked on. They were without a doubt cherished times and the band really took the 80's by storm!!
Telegram force and ready I knew this was a big mistake There's a fine line drawing My senses together And I think it's about to break If I listen close I can hear them singers, oh Voices in your body coming through on the radio The union of the snake is on the climb Moving up it's gonna race it's gonna break Through the borderline Nightshades on a warning Give me strength at least give me a light Give me anything even sympathy There's a chance you could be right If I listen close I can hear them singers, oh Voices in your body coming through on the radio The union of the snake is on the climb Moving up it's gonna race it's gonna break Through the borderline The union of the snake is on the climb Moving up it's gonna race it's gonna break Through the borderline If I listen close I can hear them singers, oh Voices in your body coming through on the radio The union of the snake is on the climb Moving up it's gonna race it's gonna break Through the borderline The union of the snake is on the climb It's gonna race, it's gonna break, it's gonna move up Through the borderline The union of the snake is on the climb Moving up it's gonna race it's gonna break Through the borderline The union of the snake is on the climb It's gonna race, it's gonna break, it's gonna move up To the borderline
WOW I’ve been looking for single comment about the lyrics and occult symbolism in this video. Found none It seems like a desperate help shout OR like most of the time, a plain mockery right in front of our faces.
bellisima bellisima bellisima como me gustaba alla por 1985 y todavia me gusta este gran tema. no sabia como se llamaba y lo busque un monton por fin puedo disfrutarlo. gracias por compartirlo
I can remember when I heard you guys the first time! 6 years ago, Mom showed me a CD she had made with Duran Duran, Arcadia, and others on it.. I listened and am still very hooked! Then we went to the Walmart and I got the last Greatest CD! Thank you guys for helping me discover my all time goal in life: to sing! 🎵 I know you'll never see this, but you've really made an impact on my life and I'm forever grateful! Keep it up, Wild Boys
I always loved how John Taylor acts all weary walking and climbing hills in the desert at the beginning of this music video. His makeup and lustrous hair were flawless despite how he tried to look spent of energy. No wonder he acted in "Sugar Town". He displayed some acting talent here. Though, he did have a cameo appearance with "Power Station", his other band, eons ago on the "Miami Vice" TV series.
Lord have mercy Roger Taylor. What a total babe. His laid back style and masculine look was always such a turn on to the really young Durannies like me in the 80's. At least for the 11-12 year old girls I went to school with. He just never tried to outshine John and Simon 😚. I love them all really, but Rog is the fave.
Thats exactly what I think. It truly is a tapestry of all the various musical elements. They really know how to use their instruments to create an amazing piece of art. Each song is like a complex piece of artwork, intricately woven. The result is songs that are so enjoyable on so many levels that you never get tired of them because you are always hearing something you never heard before in it. When Pop songs are too simple they get boring pretty quickly. But when a Pop song is intricate and complex then like all Duran Duran's hits they last and last and stand the test of time. Duran Duran's songs all sound so amazing all these years later.
I remember when it came out 7 And The Ragged Tiger was accused of being overproduced... but I liked the album then and still really like it today. There's not denying that it *is* a big fluffy carpet of sound upon sound upon sound, but it does have a very unique character.
u have got to be kidding me.....this is one of their worst songs........this song is an embarrassment....DD had lots of great songs.....this was not one of them
rebjiii What an asinine comment. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it sucks. It charted well, it’s original sounding, highly catchy & still kicks ass even after 35 yrs.
@@coolcat6303 its not catchy and it never kicked as.....DD had several awesome songs on their first two albums.....all their songs after RIO was released were mediocre at best,......Union of the Snake was not even mediocre...it was terrible
@@rebjiii Just quit it with your copypasta garbage opinion. You literally have no idea how stupid you are, telling him that this song is not allowed to be his favorite (a subjective matter, as you well don't know).
Saw this on MTV Classic tonight! Five stars and two thumbs up to the music videos of yesteryear! To all you historians out there, forget the music videos of recent times and today! Music. videos from the past are it! WE WANT OUR MTV, AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the 80s, as a teenager I was more into Spandau Ballet, but i love and respect Duran Duran, they had unique style and musicality, aged greatly, still memorable songs 👍🏼
Ellos ya lo sabían. Ellos nos entregaron este mensaje. Ellos con su música nos isieron bailar y vivir esos aquéllos años de inocencia. Viva la música viva DURÁN DURÁN.
Nope, this is all Andy. Alex Sadkin and Ian Little produced this song. The first time they worked with Nile Rodgers was when he remixed "The Reflex" and the first time he played on a Duran record was "Notorious".
The whole band = Handsome and talented. Talk about perfecta. Seeing these guys while growing up as a young lad was a helluva time. The 80's was pure awesomeness. So glad I got a chance to ride through the decade.
Yes and furthermore if you're talented and spirited and you like to involve yourself in the knowledge of dark powers, you can easily make a break through in the music industry. Duran Duran met an exceptation at their time through styles and musics, they had all the winning cards to communicate something attractive and something much more insidious (like so many others of course) but they were fascinating.
