Last Friday I met an old German Engineer in Freiburg, Germany. He is now 80 years old and he was in Nepal in 1972 for a project when Birendra was a king. He told me he met Birendra at that time and the project was commenced by the king. He told me many things about our late king, his way of talking, his behavior, his respectful nature, and his vision. From his point of view, I really feel we lost everything after our king's death.

म यो हत्याकाण्ड हुँदा १२ बर्षको थिएँ, शुक्रवार राती नेपाल टेलिभिजनमा आउने नेपाली चलचित्र हेरेर सुतेको, भोलिपल्ट बिहान राजाको परिवार सखाप, अल ईन्डिया रेडियोले फुक्यो दिपेन्द्रले मारेर आफ राजा भयो, त्यसको ३ दिनमा दिपेन्द्र नै चैट्। मेरो बुबा कट्टर कम्युनिष्ट राजधानी बसेर शिक्षण गर्नु हुन्थ्यो, ४६ सालको आन्दोलनमा ढुंगा हान्ने बिद्यार्थी उहाँ तरै पनि ‘बिरेन्द्र देशको सच्चा अभिभावक थिए’ भनेर कपाल मुन्डन गरेर आन्दोलनमा लाग्नुभयो। पछी पक्राऊ खाएर छुटेर गाउँ फर्किनु भयो। समाचारमा भने जसरी दिपेन्द्रलाई हत्यारा मान्न ईन्कार गरिरहेको मेरो बाल मस्तिस्कले बुबा आएर सबै तर्क बितर्क र कुतर्कहरूको खात छुट्याईदिनुभएपछी लाग्यो गिरिजा प्रसाद कोईरालाले भने झैँ त्यो हत्याकाण्ड ‘ग्रान्ड डिजाईन्’ थिएछ। पछी कुन्छागं काकाले लेखेको लेखहरू पढेँ, अरू किताबरू पढ्दै गएँ, आफैँ खोज् गर्दै गएँ जति गहिराईमा गएँ त्यती नै बुबाको आकलनलाई सत्य मान्दै गएँ। बुबाले भन्नुभएको थियो, ”भारतले नेपाललाई स्थिर देख्न सक्दैन अनि नेपालमा कम्युनिष्ट आएको अमेरिका चाहदैन। राजा बिरेन्द्रको उदारवाद र क. मदनको बहुदलिय जनवादको मिलनले नेपाललाई नयाँ उचाईमा लग्ने पक्का थियो। अमेरिकाले कम्युनिस्ट दवाउन त्यती सजिलो छैन भनेर भियतनाममा उनिहरूको बेईज्जतीपूर्ण हार मै चाल पाईसकेको थियो त्यसैले गुपचुप टाउकेहरूलाई उडाउनु बुद्दिमानी हुन्थ्यो। यहाँ भारत र अमेरिकाको ‘ईन्ट्रेष्ट’ मेल खायो, यही दुई राष्ट्रको गुप्तचर संस्थाले देश भित्रैको(परिवारकै) मान्छेसँग मिली क. मदन र राजा बिरेन्द्रलाई उडाई आफ्नो कठपुतली राख्ने निधो गरेको हो। क. मदनलाई उडाए पुग्छ भन्ने ठानेको थियो तर नयाँ कम्युनिस्ट माओवादीको रूपमा आयो, उनीहरू सँग शान्तिपूर्वक मिलेर देश चलाउने बिरेन्द्रको ईच्छा ले फेरी भारत अमेरिका तर्सियो र उसलाई पनि सखाप पार्यो। क. मदन र राजा बिरेन्द्र जेष्ठ महिनामै मारिए। यसको पनि कुनै कारण छ।” यति धै खोज् र अनुसन्धार गरी सत्य कोट्याउने साहस गरेकोमा तँपाईलाई धन्यवाद छ। म तँपाईको अड्कल सँग सहमत छु, त्यहाँ ३/४ ओटा दीपेन्द्रको मुखुण्डो लगाएको प्रोफेशनल शुटरहरू प्रयोग गरिएको थियो।

In 2010, i went to Narayanhiti Durbar Square. The buildings that were there were destroyed. When i asked the working personnel, he said that "Because dead spirits of King and Queen haunt this place".
