Riding the caboose and open air gondola car on the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad! Steam train ride with a historic Heisler #6 locomotive that burns coal. Filmed in Durbin West Virginia on July 16, 2017. This is an eleven mile round trip on the Durbin Rocket. The tourist train goes 5.5 miles along the Greenbrier River and then stops to let the passengers off for a short break to see the river. This is where they drop off the castaway caboose for campers who want to spend the night here and come back the next day. Watch as the caboose is set off on a siding before we head back to town. This video also shows how the steam engine gets refilled with water from a creek and the ending shows it being refilled with coal. The tracks are being worked on right now with the goal of trains being able to travel from Cass to Durbin. The normal power is a Climax locomotive that is down for its mandatory inspection. This unique railway has a historic station, old freight and passenger cars and very interesting maintenance equipment. There are also plans to connect this line to Elkins WVa.
