In August 2020 the Polish Heritage Flight from Duxford homed it's Hawker Hurricane R4175 with the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Ground Display Team's Visitor Centre at Blackpool Airport.
The Hawker Hurricane served at RAF Squires Gate for the duration of WW2 and provided night fighter cover for the Blackpool Coastline and the cities of Liverpool and Preston during the period of the Blitz.
Based in our 1939 Hangar for the duration of her stay R4175 provided the Spitfire Visitor Centre with a real injection of interest, as the UK eased out of lockdown following the Coronavirus lockdown.
The Polish Heritage Flight's ethos aligns perfectly with that of the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Team, who promote the memory of both RAF and Polish Squadrons who served at RAF Squires Gate during WW2.
With the final lifting of the UK Coronavirus restrictions, we hope to be able to restart our fundraising efforts to not only expand our Visitor Centre facilities, but also reinvigorate of fundraising efforts to return a former RAF Work War Two Fighter Aircraft to Blackpool Airport.
