You have the edge of the groove in the wrong position. The dust is o the top of the baffle and it it gives the out put opportunity to catch the dust. Turn the baffle so the groove is at the edge of the inlet. The dust will fall down sooner!
Coriolis Effect for the win!!! Okay, not so much... Nicely done. I've been on the fence about going with a cyclone or a Thein separator. Looks like I need to do a bit more research. I'm eager to see your results and get your opinion after a few months of use. Great video as always, Peter. Thanks!
check this version out : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S-_4UN-kAEs.html its basicly the same idea but he made the part to the vacuum cleaner different (he made a side inlet to the vacuum cleaner facing away from the dust intake ) might help some (at the moment it might suck up whats left on the seperationtray )
Hi Casey If you follow the link below the video to the writeup I did you will ring the original designers page and on there be gives measurements to make one. You will need to draw to suit your collection bin as scaling will not work. Cheers Peter
Great video. Is there a set height that the suction coupler should be off the bottom panel? I know the elbow sits on the bottom panel. Starting mine on Monday.
I think it is 3 inches but check out the link I have on my webpage to the original designers article. It has all the relevant info. I just made it to suit the 4" elbow I had laying about and it turned out fine so it probably isn't critical. Cheers Peter
You're a master at explaining things. I actually watched a lot of your CNC videos, but today I had some more generic wood dust collections, so I carefully crafted my RU-vid search, and here you are again :) Thanks again!
Good stuff, thanks. Inverting the dust bag upside down was very clever. On a completely different note, is that a USB stick in some sort of USB extension cable with stand on the "elbow" of the monitor stand? Cheers, D
I have a question about the size of the dust collection hose... I don't have a vacuum such as that, and will be using a shop vac. I have 2 shop vacs now. I have 1 with a smaller 1.5" hose that has a higher hp, and a second shop vac with a 2.5" hose, but a lower hp... any advice which one to use?
Mine is a 1hp dust collector with a 4" hose. More than that I don't really know. It is low pressure high volume setup. In my opinion the shop Vac with the bigger hose would be better for a CNC dust collector than the one with the smaller hose but don't know for sure. The DC I haven't isn't very powerful and adding the separator hasn't done any it any favours but time will tell if it was a good idea or not. Cheers Peter
Thanks John. That would be a good option as well because the bag can be a sod to get back in place. Do you have any video or photos of how you adapted the from to fit? Cheers Peter
