Not sure if you still use it but you could create a very lightweight frame to house the 2 filters and attach it to the underside of the metal grate with either double sided velcro or magnets IF the grate is magnetic, then you just pull it out when it gets dirty and replace, rather than sitting on top of the grate - just my 2 cents lol

its amazing when a husband helps his wife have something she wants an instead of buying it . builds it for her....my husband did a Hollywood vanity mirror for me and i couldn't believe he built it for me. your husband did. a great job i wish the table i just got could get this done to it but its Marble top. so hopefully the fan i buy works out for me.😁

I like her gel polish display! Looks so much neater and easier than painting wheels and keeping them in containers on your table.

To husband, your idea is genius! I will be saving this video for my very handy husband to do when we move into our new place. I'm also hoping to find your mini dust fan that you stated to another nail tech. Thank you so much for sharing this video.

The ONLY difference we made was that we put a grate under the table above the fan so the filter fits right downinside without being sucked into the motor. The gate on to sits flat with the filter inside.

Those white filters are vent filters for your ac/heat ducts. You can find it in the same section at the hardware store as vents. :)

You have no idea how happy I am because of this video!!! I have bee researching dust collectors for weeks! I was scared to order a cheap one on amazon and it not work. I'm gonna get some flexible aluminum foil duct hose and run it out of a window to suck the fumes out as well. I am a DIY queen so I'll be doing this one myself! Thank you so much for sharing this.

Do you have any idea of the fans cmf power? The cheapest one that I see is 50-60 cmf for $15
@TheNailPolisher
@TheNailPolisher 6 лет назад
I'm actually not sure. I didn't save the box but we bought the cheapest which was 14.99 or so just to experiment before we bought a bigger one but this one worked. So you're probably looking at the same one we got.

UPDATE::: So I ended up getting the one for $30 and I got some of the foil duct hose that u would use on the back of a dryer. Normally when I do my nails I go downstairs and have the door open and fans blowing and my entire house is still flooded with the smell of the liquid. I just did my nails a few days ago IN MY BEDROOM WHILE WATCHING TV WITH MY GUY and I didn't hear 1 complaint from him!!!!!! I just sat the fan on my wooden tv tray that I use and put the hose out the window and closed the window down on the hose a little bit ( and tucked a towel in the open space because it's still cold here). I had the cover on that came with the fan and thats where I sat my dappen dish and a small folded paper towel to wipe my brush. I literally had NO LINGERING ACRYLIC ODOR AT ALL!!! And the nail dust was VERY VERY VERY MINIMAL compared to how it is normally and I think thats just because of the way that I had it on the table. I ended up spending around $52 total and that includes the fan, hose, electrical tape, a plug and some screws and window screen for when I actually attach it to a table. I got the old school wire type window screen and I'm gonna use that in the way that u have that amazing cover on yours. I figure I can screw it into the table and pulled tight it will be sturdy enough to hold . AGAIN THANK U SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS IDEA.

OMG that's amazing. I'm showing this to my husband. We're in the process of trying to take an old desk and set it up as a manicure desk, run the wires through it and everything like that. I've been trying to figure out how to do a dust extractor. TY for the tip. Where did you get that purple efile???

I was wondering if much of the dust goes through the filters ontop? do you end up with much dust builling up in your bag underneath?

Do you think I can use one of those Ebay fans the same way by not putting a suction bag on the bottom and leaving it open, then put a filter on top of the fan like you did?
@TheNailPolisher
@TheNailPolisher 6 лет назад
Hillary Zhu you can try! I felt like those didnt have enough suction power but try and see.
@Hillarygirl21
@Hillarygirl21 6 лет назад
I did more research and the fans that are used to make those particular dust collectors are actually not powerful at all! I think I'm going to try this out :-) What section did you find the steel cover on top from? I tried googling a bunch of things, but can't find out what they're called.
@TheNailPolisher
@TheNailPolisher 6 лет назад
Hillary Zhu Yeah!! It's super cheap. Here in TX o spent $14.99 on the fan and then I'm not sure where the grate came from! My husband happened to see it at home depot and knew that's something similar to what I wanted and picked it up. May want to just screen shot it and ask an employee.

@TheNailPolisher
@TheNailPolisher 6 лет назад
Natalie Boldt it's not any louder than an efile is. I can still hold a conversation with my clients and were not screaming at each other. No adjustments. I LOVE it! It still works perfectly.

Stephanie S. No maam. It's only for dust. I do not use acrylics so I don't have to worry about odor. I've switched to hard gels for all my nail extensions and love it way more.

Great idea. The hub just built me one out of a set of keyboard slides and he took my eBay dust extractor apart and mounted to a piece of closet shelving he cut down and attached to the keyboard slides I bought. I just lay a filter across the top of the fan when in use then just dump it after I’m finished. I love that mine slides in and out. The bags just cause blow back and once the bag part is taken out of the situation they work great. I only do my own so this is perfect for me. Thank goodness for creative hubbies!!!!! Creative or cheap in my case....not sure which lol.

How many rpm's is your electric sander? Amazon. (ca) sells it for $169.00 for 20,000 rpm. For that price being that most all are only 30-35000 rpm are the best. 20,000 they say cuts in and out if too much pressure is applied or then it can cause burns and to over heat as it can't handle it at that rpm. Even still unless it is made of stainless steel it should never be that price even at 30,000 rpm's with all it comes with is typical for many.
