@@dallassylvestre7209 i know! I enjoy for example masvidals talking or even nate diaz's cause they are bully like, but they back their words and base it on respect, street like you know? But also its cool to see the purist tipe of fighter with honor and respect, not a thug from a bar fight but a martial artist.
@@cineris2389 I agree, Conor got clowned and still does for the Khabib fight but after his last fight because he was respectful I haven’t heard that much shit talk
@@connorschue1007 Conor’s “hand canon” relies on the perfect strike, if it’s not the opponent doesn’t go down. Dustin has actual power and striking now compared to the first time he fought Conor.
@@connorschue1007 No way, Poiriers right hand was perfectly timed, Conor was dropping his head and got hit with a bomb that ended the fight. Conors left hand wasn’t a factor in that fight. Conor low key is admitting to his team that that shot was a bomb, no doubt.
I never knew how intelligent, thoughtful and well spoken Dustin was until this interview. He definitely has a post fight career as an analyst/commentator if he wants it. I'm a huge fan now.
LoL Dustin is so Hood and so Lafayette ppl are mentioning how "well spoken" he is like this guys comment... what'd you expect him to sound like, Bobbie boucher 😂
@@sgt.horvath7023 not saying that but typically you wouldn't expect people who get punched and kicked in the head for a living to speak the way he does. Look at guys like Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz for example.
The fact of the matter is this: Dustin has been grinding, scratching and clawing his way to the top since the loss, whereas Conor got complacent. Dustin also developed a wicked chin, I knew when Conor threw a straight left that didn't take Poirier out that it was over. Give Dustin his flowers... The amount he improved since that loss is actually ridiculous. Should be the champ.
blah blah he was damn near just as good his first loss but people get clipped and lose it happens. you run the best versions of poirier and conor back to back and they are both getting knocked out alot. im tired of people thinking because dustin got hit in the back of his ear by a really well placed shot from conor that he was a bum. this man has been out here for a long time if u open your eyes u will see the good fighters and not just the loudest fighters
Dustin always had a chin , Conor clipped him on the back of the head the first fight. It’s not conors fault since Dustin ducked down when Conor threw the punch but it is what it is. Run it back a 3rd for all the marbles
@@gionator14 True, but Dustin NEVER showed he was hurt. That's the key, that's why conor never knew when to go for it. When dustin hurt conor, it was clear as day and he took the finish like an assassin.
Yeah I like how he shows mcgregor a lot of respect for his power, borderline admitting Conor’s the more powerful striker it felt which is true but it’s cool to see he can admit that even when he won
Damn regardless of the spotify deal, can't deny Joe is killing it lately with the MMA show past few weeks: Francis Ngannou, Cody Garbrandt, Kevin Holland, and now Dustin Poirer
I’ll have to see those podcasts eventually. Ever since his move to spotify i haven’t felt the urge to go watch him. I guess it’s more a matter of convenience since i frequent youtube everyday.
Yeah, but we all know that leg kick killed McGregor. Dustin was losing the stand-up battle until the poisoned leg gave out on Conor (all credit to Dustin and his team).
@@TpsFinalForm Yall might be some of the dumbest people in the world cause you like someone, leg kicks is stand up not just boxing in mma lmao he set up his ko punches with his stand up leg kicks they were no accident it was pure stand-up and he won and koed him how is that "losing stand up" what a dummy.
dustin is an absolute monster. Ever since i saw him fight gaethje, ive been a huge fan. His legs got thrashed, he ate huge shots, and he was losing big going into the third. The heart needed to make a comeback like that is insane, and he has it
He was losing big going into the third? Wait, are you Dominick Cruz? Lmao for every leg kick Gaethje landed Dustin landed a three strike combo to his head
Exactly, I use a conor term here 'stuck in the mud' I think Conor switches stances and and faster feet movements. He wins. He's to predictable at the minute.
@@12nicoll yea, it’s a trade off. When your flat footed you punch harder, but get punched more. When your bouncing in and out you throw softer blows, but get hit less. I think this is why Connor would appear to just pick apart his opponents. he would get close, throw his punches, then get away.
@@ForgiveMe00 yea all that bouncing in and out the first diaz fight he was getting himself tired and then he got clipped. He stood his ground more in the rematch and conserved energy. He saw himself hitting power shots on diaz and thought that is where he is best at... But in reality its matchups. Diaz is alot easier to hit than the top 5 of lw. Conor needed his elusive movement/counters against dustin. Dustin is a machine tho and can go 5 rounds. Conor has to win by ko/tko by the 2nd round. If it goes past that dustin is gonna clean up.
I've always loved Dustin, I thought it was awesome watching Mcgrgor call his shot on him.....but then Dustin picked himself up and kept goin to greatness
You know Rogans a stoner, “How did you like that clavicle” “There’s prob only a few humans that’s ever lived to say those words in that order” 😂 I love this dude!
The face of a company or sport has to be who people find the most fun to watch. A quiet and reserved guy ain’t it. Look at Ali or Tyson or Mayweather. People love a cocky fighter. They’ll watch him to see him win or lose. Either way they’re watching. If everyone was super reserved and respectful of each other and it’s all hugs after the fight people find it less interesting. Then UFC fighters go back to making 15 grand a fight in exchange for mild brain damage.
@@mdpop3 i hate it too, but its up to the fighters man... can't pad everything in life. After all, they are going in there to cause as much damage as possible. To stop the others wills or normal body functions is the name of the game.
Why in the world are you cutting from 190 to fight at 145? They need to change the whole system somehow so this doesn’t go on. He should be fighting at 170
@@lordknows8907 For power and length in smaller divisions. Lol look at Rumble Johnson's career. The things these guys put themselves through is insane.
I'm so glad Dustin mentioned the right hand that started the fight ending sequence. NO ONE mentioned it and NONE of the replays showed it clearly. It's crazy how a fight's narrative can be controlled by camera angles and what the commentators can see. Same thing with izzy v Whittaker. Izzy was clipping him with hooks repeatedly, but you just can't see it.
I wonder if Conor actually is worth the trouble for ufc. Obv biggest ppvs but do they clear enough after paying him. Very strange how they sidelined him in 2020, especially with 155 and 170 having so many stars at the moment
The most humble and coolest guys are the best to teach MMA, I see that now in Dustin. No ego equals absorbing and embracing techniques, game plans and hard work. Don't ever change Dustin I 💝 you just the way you are
Sounds relevant since they lived about an hour away from each other. Uncle Joey comes into town to hook up with Dustin, Dustin rolls it out to the supply chain....ha
The first time I remember leg kicks (not necessarily calf kicks) in the UFC was Marco Ruas verse Paul Varelans. He showed how effective legs kicks could be. Go watch that early fight. Paul weight over 300lbs and Marco was around 210lbs. He kept chopping on Paul's leftest until he fell.
Didn't he say something about clavicles when he talked about the guy without arms who fought everyone lol. Said something like he'd snatch you between his neck and clavicle 😂
Dustin would be the first to tell you that he needs to win over someone that is meaningful, and not just about publicity and revenue. Charles, or Justin are the true, significant predators to deal with if you really want to know that you have actually earned a championship.
@@kallepikku4991 I believe Dustin is a top 3 contender in the LW division, and a continuously improving, and evolving fighter as well. But a one off win against the Gaethje of 3 years ago, is not relevant to the challenge that Gaethje presents at this time. Justin has improved, and evolved his skill set, and fight management drastically more so than even Dustin has over this time. My reasoned, and objective opinion is that the LW division at this time has Dustin, Justin, and Charles as the truly relevant top seeds. Unfortunately, Tony has slipped quite noticeably, while these three have continued to evolve, and improve, so he must again prove worthy to be considered. But that's just my HO.
And this is EXACTLY why you won’t make it very far very easily. The group hate I get for this comment by your peers tho is the reason you will probably do just fine
@@lucastella5914 That sucks man. There's no way I could learn or stay engaged in a conversation that way. That's crazy some places are still playing those games. Hang in there.
@Iron Arm On a technical and literal level I very much agree with you about the fact that bones would only be consumed by humans via brothing (although since we're being pedantic, considering we're talking about bone here, it'd be stock not broth), but man you must be fun at parties
when dustin slipped conors punches and gave one good back and pointed at conor like "I got u now" was cool. dustin has waayyy much more cagetime vs the 155 sharks than conor has since their first fight. conor said before this fight "haha what u gonna do different this time??" dustin was like "low calf kicks son" ;)
I'm surprised more people aren't talking about how much Mike Brown out coached Kavanagh. Poirier was one step ahead most of the fight and the lack of advice between rounds was glaring to me considering the momentum was going in Dustin's favor
Lot of people just don't realize how difficult it is to cut weight like that.... At 6'0, 220lbs, I couldn't imagine even having to get back down to 175lbs in anything less than 6 months... There's only so much water weight you can cut before you start eating away at your muscle. Dropping 45lbs on short notice is INSANE, and that just goes to show Poirier's level of commitment to the game. Ugh... painful just thinking about it.
Is that you in your picture? Looking good brother. No homo. Yes 45lbs is absurd the dude was obviously about to be hospitalized. It was even fucking with his brain so I can't imagine his poor kidneys. This weight cutting scandal must stop at some point.
I have a lot of respect for Dustin. He talked about how as a kid, he’d get into many scraps with different people and I didn’t even think about it at first but for poor Cajun kids like us, that’s all we could do lol. None of our parents had money so we’d just fist fight in our front yards to pass the time. Even the girls in our neighborhood would fight each other, it was crazy.
Joe is a standup comedian first, and foremost. Phrases, and the timing, commonality, or ridiculousness of phrasings are of top importance to any standup comedian.
Hey Joe, love your show. Curious about one thing maybe you’ve already done it and I missed it. Would you please talk about if UFC fighters study film of their opponents as much as the NFL does. Could you make this a show possibly about that topic please. Thank you in advance.
I saw him in Fightville years ago and knew he would make it. So happy to see his success and maturity. No one deserves it more than Dustin. Straight up dude from day one.
He was always mature I think. He never really trash talked even in his old days. Conor kinda just got to him a little bit on their first bout and he took it personally lol.
@@nwing07__ y’all always push these narratives about what athletes think and how they feel 🤦🏻 just please stfu, you don’t know what you’re talking about
Dustin admits that his walk-around weight is 190. So where are the comment section experts claiming that Khabib fights smaller guys at lightweight? 🤫🤫🤫🤫
only retired (191 lbs) and injured (205 lbs during his injuries between 2014 and 2016) khabib walks around at that weight or more.i remember in one video before his camp for ufc 229,khabib said he weighs 183 when rockhold asked him.guys who said otherwise are just ignorant haters
Khabib is almost dying to make 155 how the fuck is he not fighting smaller guys? Mentioning Dustins weight doesn’t take away from Khabib not fighting smaller guys
@@abangman8942 once someone told me in the comments that it was said he's 190 pounds in that video, but he didn't provide me the link for that. Which one is the actual figure anyway?
@@abangman8942 Also I have seen people commenting that his walk around weight is 200 lbs, quoting one of his interviews in Russian, while he clearly stated in that video that he reached that weight because he was put to rest for 5 months after his back surgery. So can I call them haters?

“How’d you like that clavical? He got me back better though. He had more pop on his for sure” He literally is so respectful man, still finding ways to show humility by saying Connor got the best of him in certain situations
@@KonohazFinest Dustin proved he has evolved better than Conor since their last fight in 2014. So as of for now Dustin is the better guy. But let’s see how the rematch plays out.
Never a good idea to sacrifice hard earned muscle mass to move down a few weight classes. Your Strength + Endurance will be gone... Every wonder how the Fat Guy in the front row would do in there? No weight cut for him.
Those guys killed themselves to get down to 145. With Max's frame, I'm really interested to see how big he would get if he took a year off to bulk up a bit to make a permanent move to 155.
I respect Dustin alot for his response to "do you feel like you have Connors number" and him replying "every fight is different" he's a humble ass guy honestly I feel if anyone else had beaten Connor in the fashion Dustin did they would be talking hella shit and almost bragging about it.
Another one of those techniques that changes the game forever. Everyone must adjust. In 25 years we have made more progress then in all of recorded history when it comes to fighting. Mind blowing.
