I watched this just for the nostalgia... I played during the revised era. Serra Angel, Sengir Vampire, Bad Moon, Crusade, Carrion Ants, Killer Bees, etc... These cards were so fun, it brings a tear to my eye.
The art really takes me back. To this day Mark Tedin, Anson Maddox and Therese Neilsen are still my favourite artists in the history of magic. So good.
UFO ORBS one of the best card games ever produced. Unfortunately I wasn't able to keep up with the incredible number of card sets they started producing each year.
Charlie Church I've never heard of it I'll have to check it out ask my son about it he probably know more than I would hope you're having a good weekend
Here for the nostalgia too. I haven't played MTG since 1998 (Mirage/Visions block was my last), I started with 4th Edition. The artwork brings me way back, incredible.
This brought me back to my childhood so much! I stated during Unlimited, Antiquities, Revised, and 4th Edition came out back in 94-95, and im so pissed that for the life of me I cant find all my old cards. I had at LEAST $2-$3k in cards ranging from Alpha all the way to 5th edition. Thanks again for the post! Awesome!
The set that introduced me to Magic (Damn it, i missed the duals for soooo little). Brown artifacts, incredible artwork, no lands in the boosters and memorable commons. Really enjoyed it. Thank you
man this really takes me back, just pulled out the old binders from when i used to play a few weeks ago. was cool to see the cards that got me into playing the game in the first place:)
That serra angle was the foundation of my angle deck...I played tons of these cards, I miss them. Got rid of most of my old cards when I stopped playing. I just started again and wish I had kept them
I started playing around Limited so yes, seeing these cards really brings back some warm, fuzzy memories! Thank you so much for doing this video. If I wasn't already a subscriber before, I would become one now!
I just stumbled onto your video and I glad I did since I started playing when 4th edition came out and it was my favorite not only because of the cards but for the artwork and I thank you for having my childhood bomb explode in front of me. I will subscribe since you really do know how the to feel for nostalgia and vintage cards! I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU TO GET ROYAL ASSASSIN BTW. All time favorite card!
Fourth edition plus ice age was my childhood. I can still remember my old deck from way back when. It was white and red and a mish-mash of sera angels, shivan dragons, lightning bolt's and incinerate's. I'm face palming just thinking about it.
Good times great art brings back lots of memories everything was so simple back in the 90s good music great cards was hoping to see you pull a classic shivan dragon but the force of nature was sweet tooo!!!
Best pack openings on youtube, hands down. Love the variety you give us and great commentary. I like these vintage openings alittle more than the newer stuff, would be awesome to see some seventh edition or abouts. I messed around with my older brothers cards before seventh but that was when i really started playing, off and on throughout the years since then but been into it heavily this past year or so (having the money from a real job has helped that lol.)
This was amazing! I have some of those old cards but I didn't know what the originals looked like so t h his was awsome! Also I'm happy that people do this kind of stuff to give so respect to the original/old/cool stuff!
What a blast from the past. It seems like rare back then was really, actually, rare compared to now where everyone seems to have 4 of the rare cards. Maybe it was packs were hard to find (I started with Revised) or I just never had money to buy them. I spent so much money on individual cards to build my red deck with mana flares, Shivan Dragons, Smoke, lighting bolts, forks, fireballs, etc... Thanks for busting this one open, I almost felt like I was in Jr. High again.
Awesome flashback. I loved Force of Nature as well. I played cards that I liked even though they were probably bad. Did you ever open that box of homelands? I couldn't find it.
thanks for your video! I'm relatively new to magic the gathering and I love collecting the intro packs of each block. Watching this video of you opening an old block booster box I thought you could answer one question: Do you know any place I can find these intro packs? I would like to get the ones from Innistrad, Dark Assention and Avancin Restoured. Is there any place I still can find them or I should look for each card and build the deck? Again, thank you for posting the video.
Though the opening was relatively uneventful, and I didn't start playing Magic until Worldwake, I still really enjoyed this video because I find old Magic fascinating and charming in its own way. I just love History, which is why I think Time Spiral block is the most ingenious block Wizards has ever made. Anyway, rambling aside, I enjoy your channel, man. Keep up the good work!
Cool video. I remember opening these packs back in the day, they aren't super exciting these days but good nostalgia trip. Too bad you didn't get any Sylvan Libraries, Land Taxes, Wraths or Mana Vaults .. but you got the Lord and Strip Mine at least :)
just left this on and went took a shower and come back and youre still goin through cards!! i donno why I'm typing this... but ya lol anywayyyyy I haven't played magic in like twenty years but in past few days I been seeing your videos now all sudden I wanna play lol.. I remember hella these cards youre showing.. ahhh memories.
Wow. The first MTG I ever got was a 4th edition 2 deck starter set. Homelands could have been Halloweenish. I remember it had the vampire thing going with Baron Sengir and his family.
4th edition was more like like 19+ years from the time you recorded this video. I think I started playing right after this set was released. I remember buying these and revised packs.
This was the set that I got my first starter deck. I had wanted to play magic for years by that time, but didn't know where to get them. Ice Age was my first boosters.
I officially feel old now. thanks. I started on 4th and a few from fallen, all the way up to 06-07 ish time frame . but sold them all after the recession hit. had around 26,000 cards. all gone. so sad. I need to get back into magic I miss it.
All these cards look familiar back when I first started to play.. I remember playing with just 2 people, my older brother and a really good friend of mine (who was the one who got us to play). We always played mosh, and some house rules I can recall was you had to ask for permission to look at a players' card (ones in play), and you HAD to untap + upkeep THEN draw... if we failed this, we would lose our next turn draw step. xD
I really wanted to play Magic back when then. I remember buying a bunch of cards at a bazaar. But I didn't know any english so we kinda made our own rules that made no sense. The cooler the art was the better the card was. I never knew what edition it was, but seeing so many of them in here, I'm sure it has to have been this one.
this brings me back, I worked my butt off to save up to buy a booster box of fourth edition, lol, the leviathan card eluded me for so long but ironically wasn't the final card I needed to complete my 4th ed set. glad I kept those cards! oh btw, you got a sub :D
I totally felt the same way you did when 4th Edition came out! I was like, I don't know about this new set, where did my Revised packs go? The colors on the 4th Edition were all darker and I didn't like it at all. Unfortunately I actually did quit Magic at that point, and gave all of my cards to a friend to try and sell. Never saw them again :(
I was introduced to magic in-between 7th and 8th core sets. I had alot of revised cards that I would trade cards for. I miss playing magic and don't know where to start up again.
Durkae Durkae all depends on your format....you should check out Tolarian Community college as well it's an informative channel...origins deck builders toolkit to get your land cards and base cards then just booster up...then just go straight for the individual cards you want for your deck, secondary market means there is not much reason to blind buy hoping for what you want..
Loved this opening. I stopped playing between 4th and 5th so there was too much nostalgia in this video. I stopped because I was primarily a kitchen magic player and when I played in the school yard, some kid played 3 sol rings on his first turn and I got fed up. I wasn't going to go out and buy playsets so I gave it up forever :( Maybe I'll just go out and buy some packs for old time's sake.
i'm one of those old time players of magic, this brings back memories especially strip mine. owned a red green land destroying deck before. no land no mana as i say before... then the only creature that will kill you opponent was a lanowar elf hehehe
Wow man i don't know if you got no luck on pulls but i was hoping you could get some very desired cards on 4th ed like Ivory Tower or Shyva Dragon. I have a lot of 4th ed cards i keep untill today...
I started playing during revised. I definitely bought tons of 4th edition back in the day. There aren't many good rares out of that set honestly. Armageddon, Land Tax, Wrath of God, and a few others. Nothing outrageous. They took out dual lands, and were really trying to even out the playing field during 4th, even though good old lightning bolt was still pretty overpowered for a common back then (and I played the shit out of it lol)
I remember buying a lot more 4th edition than Revised back when they were both on the store shelves together because the 4th edition packs were cheaper and you basically got the same cards from them. heh Didn't understand the value of the dual-lands at the time. ;-)
lol Classic! Yeah love me some Frozen Shade! The Revised one didn't have the text until end of turn and we use to play it that way, we had a 111/111 Frozen shade the one game haha! And we use to have Zuran Orb banned, cause the rules never stated that you went into the negative numbers for health, so whenever you were knocked down to 0 health, ooh sac a land back to 2 hp! haha Good times!!! thx for doing this!
heh, trying to get 13 year olds to read the rules was pretty rough. two out of our group of 16 guys and 1 girl actually read the rules, me and this other guy each carried rule books with shit highlighted in them... this was all before the popularity of the internet too!
everytime i see that art for mana vault it reminds me of this old magic game for the pc loved that game. you walk around and get into duels like pokemon almost.
Haha, that story about Force of Nature rings very true to me as well. Back in the day, you would be more than happy to offload your "worthless" duals for mighty cards like Force of Nature, Serra Angel and Shivan Dragons all day long... ahh how the times have changed and my mountain of Serra Angels is worthless lol.
There's only a few cards worth money in 4th edition like land tax and sylvan library that are about $15 each. You might be able to sell the complete set to a collector for a couple hundred, but only if you have the complete set or most of it and in good condition. As for revised the dual lands are $2-300 each so check if you have any of those.
I started playing during revised also. I remember saving up, like, $30 and buying a bunch of 4th boosters and being super disappointed. Where were my Dual Lands? It was pretty much everything that Revised was... Just all around worse.
Man... I had all of these cards. This was the set they removed the pentagram from all the artwork wasn't it? I remember being so pissed off about that.
Very cool vids man, allows me to live vicariously through you. always loved the rush of opening packs; back in the stronghold block i pulled x2 Mox diamonds, even thou its not power 9 it was fucking awesome to find mox from a pack, prolly my sexiest find to this day.
