Dusty experiences a Interview with Dame Edna, performs In Private and closes the Show with Sisters / Together Wherever We Go with Dame Edna. Other Guests were Dolph Lungren & Ted Heath.
I’m an ordinary Aussie. I remember in 1962 viewing posters on telegraph poles advertising a show called “A nice night’s entertainment” in my home town, Newcastle NSW. My mother told me he was “riske and best ignored”. At the age of 12 I quietly thought to myself, “I need to know more about this person”. Now, 61 years later, I am sadly reminiscent of his amazing genius. It had to happen, but we have lost the best thing that ever emerged from Australia. Thankfully we have his videos to enjoy forever. Goodbye Sunny Sam, we love you and your unique humour forever.
Her voice was one in a million. A true icon of the sixties. The pop scene was dominated by male solisists or front singers. Dusty shone brighter than any of the other female solists of her decade.
I’m watching this in Dec 2021 and it’s fabulous! Timeless humour and entertainment. God bless the gorgeous Dusty Springfield - am sure she’s singing it up in heaven! She leaves today’s singers for dead!
In America, Dusty was often referred to as the White Queen of Soul. Aretha Franklin did not take offense at that title. Dusty's Nashville album was simply superb. Her talent will always be missed. It is hard to believe this was 34 years ago and about 24 years after her death.
In my opinion Dusty was the BEST female singer EVER !!!! Unlike todays so called vocalists she had a thorough musical knowledge and skills and could sing without any backing ! She had a gorgeous voice and made her BEST music after her fame had elipsed ! There will never be anyone like Dusty again ! She was the GREATEST !!!!
The song is destroyed by the drum machines & synths... so much music has been progressively de-natured ever since, so that one ends up with a parade of hopeful automatons on computers...
It's 2023. On this show, Dusty was 49 & beautiful for her age with her great performance & unique voice. I miss them both. Barry splits my sides with his charming wit.
One of the greatest of PSB songs and productions. Perfectly suited to Dusty’s husky soulful voice. They brought her back into the mainstream and gave her a whole new audience. Sadly just 10 years later she was no longer with us.
She was beautiful amazing songs and she just loved being back i adore nothing has been proved i still get chills playing that and the mixes of in private are epic x
Since the day I was born this woman has always been singing such great melancholic songs and I believe she's just recently come out as lesbian YAY!! ❤🩹. I love both these ladies... Oh, and Dolf.. 🙄 Dame makes me belly laugh EVERYTIME I see her and she always will!!
I remember this like it was yesterday instead of 34 years ago! Dusty was of course amazing and Ted Heath was a revelation as he more than held his own with Edna.
I have discovered Dame Edna, hasardously on youtube, few months before he/she passed away. It was an instant artistic coup de foudre: from her brilliant humour, to her amazing outfits, the 36 years old french gay man I was, felt that he found a new idole❤ RIP Sir Humphries, you are a legend and the Dame Edna you have created is an absolute icone.
Like the beat of this song....love her voice velvety...British icon....she looks good...Dusty....you are great....brave to go on the Dame Everage show...
Adele will never be a Dusty Springfield I love Dusty gone way to soon I love her music and personality, down to earth. Adele has changed and not for the better. I love you Dusty. God Bless 🙏❤️
An amazing video. Rip Barry. Dusty was the best singer Britain ever produced. Barry knew a star when he saw one. They are up there in Heaven making mischief, I know it! ❤
Dusty was a real talent ... Ted Heath well l will just say l have my own opinions of him ..... Dame Edna will be a great miss and join the list of unforgettable artists who are no longer with us !
Tearfully nostalgic. It really does not matter a person's natural preferences. A lesbian, a closeted gay man or a straight Swedish heterosexual. We all have unique talents and are valuable creatures.
I was a teenager, when Dusty Springfield was singing with her beautiful, special voice. I spent many hours singing with the British Invasion!! George Harrison was my first true love. I still love him today. Of course we lost George to cancer too. It’s such a horrible disease. It was a great time in the 60’s. I am so glad I was around for it. Rest In Peace. You both are truly loved and missed. ❤️🌹❤️
Two of the most talented people of the modern era.To see them perform together is a joy. Stay Awhile, was the first record album I ever bought. It is still as perfect and inspirational today as it was in the 60's.
My husband and I treated ourselves to dinner at Le Caprice back in 2010 and guess who was sitting at the table next to us….looking back I wish I had told him how wonderful he was and that my best friend dressed up as him for Halloween when we were about 8 years old 😂 Dusty, you are beautiful ❤
Thank you so much for this. Dusty was one of a kind. And how generous are the Pet shop boys that brought her back to where she belong. What a great tune. So Dusty ❤️
That show had something for everyone: A lesbian, a closeted gay man, a female impersonator and a Swedish meatball. Dusty was such a pro. Even her lipsyncing is great!
I really can't thank you enough, Darren! Dame Edna...amazing and funny experience. Dusty was a wonderful person in many ways. Her look, kindness, honesty remind me of Princess Diana, again. She had a real sense of humor, too. Great talent, unforgettable person. The best wishes for you, Darren!
WOW❗Dusty is absolutely stunningly gorgeous(she was and still is beautiful/gorgeous to me, she always will be❗) I love the song, In private(love the whole album, I love all of Dusty's music). She has a special charisma about her that makes me love her. I love everything about her, she is so awesome to me❗I am a Dusty fan all the way and as long as i breathe❗I 💖 Dusty Springfield💜☺
Darren, I've watched this video for years, but never with such clarity. Been a big fan of Dusty Springfield since 1964...yes, I'm old! Worked in NYC in the music business & was lucky enough to have seen her in Oct of 1980 at the Grand Finale. It was her last performace in New York. Other than catching her necklaces in her mic, the highlight for me was her haunting version of Bruce Roberts' "I'd Rather Be Alone." As far as I know it's never been recorded. Would love to know if anyone's aware of it. I have a rough recording of Dusty singing Kate Bush's "The Man With The Child In His Eyes." She struggles through it a bit, but it's a fascinating choice. Again thanks for a greatly improved video. Have subscribed to your channel.
Oh Wow, I could just listen to these two lasses all night - what a pairing. Rest in Peace Uncle Barry, you brought so much to our lives, especially those of us who were always kind of shy but rakish wannebees. xx
Thanks for this Darren...brings me back to memory lane....I was there at the LWT studios in London....now gone ....Dusty appeared to be enjoying Dame Edna's company. I remember after Dusty had performed "In Private" the production team noticed a white mark on her black outfit. She didn't agree to do the song again. That's our girl. It was certainly a great showcase for Dusty and her"Sisters" duet was just fantastic
Little known fact about *Dolph Lungren* is that he has a higher IQ than Einstein ( at 160 ); is a member of *MENSA* and was once offered a _Fullbright Scholarship_ to *MIT* . Dolph's IQ was equal to that of *Stephen Hawking* and Steve Jobs & Bill Gates; I've always wondered as to why anyone w/ such an IQ would venture into "acting" and not pursue the _sciences_ ?
