Watching again and i cannot fault you. As far as info for introduction of the Plastic canteen, i have been told by serving/non serving veterans of that era, ALL metal canteens were withdrawn from service in the late 1970's. This is due to the NBC threat and eventually in the 1990's we see 80's canteens and later having the so called NBC "dorp", lid that can be used with the forthcoming FM12 Respirator. SNAPS. Its a very bad KL cover that was not actually needed but that version exists with the Mariniers in Nylon? Maybe it was thought for all forces to be a trial thing with SNAPS? Who knows.

I looked in Dutch ('''KL veldvles'') and it appears that the nylon canteen is the M70 so presumably introduced that year or shortly afterwards. I own 2 of the M70 bottles and a canteen cup, I believe it's dated 80s but can't be bothered digging it out right now. I own these for use when camping rather than as part of a collection although it could be argued that I do have a small collection of British, Dutch, German, Belgian and Swiss surplus kit lol however it's all for use in the field. I picked up the cup in a surplus shop in Amsterdam about 7 or 8 years ago for just 3 Euros. Paid the same for a NVA mess kit around the same time. The canteens I bought later on from ebay in the UK but I think I only paid 5 or 6 quid each. Paid the same for a NVA mess kit. Over the last 3 or 4 years the price of a lot of surplus kit has gone up sharply. Now a Dutch M70 canteen with cup and old style pouch costs £15 upwards. Similarly just 3 years ago you could get the Yugoslav mess kits in pouch with kfs for under a tenner, now they cost £30 and there are less of them around. I stocked up on surplus kit - basha, poncho, sleeping mats, bivvy bag, rucksack and other bags and pouches, as well as items of clothing and other bits and bobs, a few years back and I'm glad I did.

Only Marines used Nylon carriers for their canteens. I think you are on a mission that is not obtainable with prices you quote.

@@66kbm ??? I was talking about the canteens themselves being nylon, or perhaps some other plastic. As to mission (?!) I don't know how you mean.

@@simonh6371 The way you stated your initial post, i thought you meant that the covers were nylon, as opposed to canteens being plastic. Canteens are plastic, not Nylon. As for prices, i think you are looking in the wrong place. I can find this for 5 euros.
