*Note to viewers* I made this video before I found out that the canteen is actually from the Dutch Army. Thanks to everyone that pointed this out when commenting on my video! The rest of the set is from the Belgian Army. I'm not sure if both armies shared some field equipment or not. Thanks for watching!

Belgium jigsaw pattern has got to be one of my all time favourite camo types. I wish more of it was available. Got a shirt in it, might be a copy though, but who cares, it's to use not to collect.

Excelente trabajo. Me ha gustado mucho ya que no sabía como era la funda de la cantimplora belga. Muchas gracias.

I've never seen the Belgian canteen either. Got a Dutch canteen when I ordered a Belgian canteen set as well but my Belgian canteen cup was the L shaped handle type. I'll track one down eventually! Thanks for the vid John.

Well, the belgian army has those cups as well, so your item might be genuine.

Thanks. It appears that the set I acquired is a mixed set with a Dutch canteen paired with the Belgian cover and cup. Thanks for watching another one of my videos and for your comment!

stickyfingaz745 I’m glad you liked it. In the interest of giving correct info, one thing that has been brought to my attention is the fact that the canteen I was sold is actually from the Dutch Army. The rest is Belgian. I’m still trying to find out if they were actually issued that way or if these kits were paired for sale on the surplus market. Thanks for watching my video and for your comment!

No, in the belgian army you don't get issued your canteen and canteen cup. You buy it in what's called the "milshop". Milshop's are located in army bases and are a part of military logistics chain. The only part that gets issued to you, is the canteen pouch, wich really sucks, because the pouch buckles open all the time. This canteen pouch is in fact part of a set of equipment bought in the early 90s that would allow to just wear your frag resistant vest and mount various (shit-) pouches on them. These days, everyone in the belgian army still gets issued this set of equipment, yet no one actually uses it and no one has a clue as to WHY they keep issuing troops with equipment that will end up in closets or in the hands of collectors as yourself. ;)

I can help you with the markings on the flask John, It say's Don't heat . KL stands for Koninklijke Landmacht Or Royal Army.00 stands for the last two numbers of the year of production ,this one is produced in 2000. One thing John the flask itself is Dutch and the cup with cover is Belgian . THanks for the vid John ,Greetings Martin.

Thanks for the information. Was it common for the Dutch canteen to be paired with this Belgian cup and cover by the Belgian army or was the canteen and cover paired together for sale for the surplus market?

This is the Original flask with the cover . static.mijnwebwinkel.nl/winkel/militarycollectibles4u/image/cache/full/8ee13e79c3d2ef54087c4b01e527cfbb978c0278.jpg The flask looks similar but with French writing on it.

Hi I think the ABL stands for Armee Belgique Legere - light infantry would be kind of equivalent. Just bought same set from UK dealer

ABL stands for Armée Belg(e/isch) Leger. Wich is part french, part dutch. It used to be ABBL; Armée Belge Belgisch Leger. Basically it comes down to Belgian Army Belgian Army in English.
@simonh6371

Leger is Dutch (Flemish) for ''army'', it's not the french word leger(e) which does indeed mean light. As the Belgian armed forces are bilingual French/Dutch speaking they have to have it in both languages.

been curious over this set for a while, seen them on ebay, I'm certain the bottle is Dutch Isue, and I love the look of the stove that go's with the set, have you seen it? all the best love the vids
@John-Sherwood-W4JFS
@John-Sherwood-W4JFS 6 лет назад
Haven't seen the stove yet. I will check it out. I guess a lot of the Belgian covers sold currently are paired with a Dutch canteens. Question is, was this paired while in service to the Belgian army or were they put together for sale on the surplus market? The search goes on...
@stinkyfinn6977
@stinkyfinn6977 6 лет назад
John Sherwood the stove looks like a neat bit of kit, it slots on the bottom of the cup and has 2bars so you can raise it and burn fuel tablets,it's not like anything else I've seen, I think the Dutch water bottle might be issued to the Belgium forces, they also use a a hooped bivie the same as the Dutch I think, I've noticed a lot of similarities between Belgium, Netherlands and British kit,
@John-Sherwood-W4JFS

I did a search but didn't see the stove. If the seller doesn't ship to the US then it may be hidden from me.
