It is now Fall 2020 and this tent trailer has been used by my daughter and her family twice this season. The lift mechanism is very smooth in so far as the cable system is concerned but when the roof is two thirds of the way up, you need to shake the two back lift supports so that the large square tube slips through the sleeve. As long as you do that it goes up smoothly. I urge everyone to make sure you do the crimp tightly, be gentle when cranking, and never force it.
You may need to lube the hell out of your telescoping lift supports. Mine dried out and the roof would not raise at all until i sprayed a quart of silicone on it
Good video, I have same model and my cable broke in the same spot. Thanks for the upload, I need to get to work on mine. Everything looks good, one thing I would keep an eye on is friction on the cable and crank and the floor. I think that’s why the cable is fraying.
My son-in-law and I ultimately repaired the cable a second time, and with his help, we managed to feed the cable properly through the "L" pulley. The trick is to either not pull the original cable all the way out of the "L" pulley but cut it to use as a fish line to pull through the new cable OR do some interesting and difficult fishing then joining of two pieces of cable - one from the bottom and one from the top of the "L" pulley. You can fish a piece of scrap cable down from the top (behind the pin - between the pin and the top pulley) then from the bottom push the end of that piece towards the driver side of the trailer. Then tape that scrap piece to the new cable that you have fished through the bottom of the old pulley from the centre of the trailer towards the driver's side of the trailer. I wish I could show you pictures but you have to do most of this by feel rather than sight. Fortunately my son-in-law has a double jointed shoulder and could reach in from the top and actually see what he was doing. You're right, my original approach would have caused the cable to cut into the floor and eventually fray against steel. My daughter and son-in-law have now inherited the trailer. Try to take pictures or video to show everyone else how to do it. The "L" pulley is problematic.
Thanks for the reply, I’m not really looking forward to the project but need to get it done. Thanks for the insight and your video provided good info. I’ll definitely keep the pointers in mind when I tear into it.
@@redeye9042 I think the fabric walls should be taught and stabilize the sway. If you have the fabric off or undone it will probably sway and actually not be very safe.
I hung the tent trailer roof from the ceiling of my garage to take the weight off and then began the repair. It was only then that I could take the tension off carefully. I used lots of rope and proceeded very carefully.
I'm not sure what you mean by the lift arms. The part that lifts the posts is like a big spring. There are four of them, one in each corner. In my experience when the back end of mine got stuck, it was a problem with the crimp repair I had previously made where the cable is in the grease chamber. The crimp had slipped on the cable and slid to the wrong position. You probably need to take it all apart and replace the cable. Be careful though to remove any tension (I supported my roof with winches from above) before taking it all apart. Don't get injured.
