Wow! I remember seeing this video when it was first offered back in 1989. I even named a little Medium Tort hen I was flying after the second guy flying in this video - BeeBee Grautten! Her father was a grizzle bred by the late Bill Screiber and her mother was an eleven year old Tort. bred by Stan Plona, if that doesn't tell you how much time has really gone by since those days. I totally forgot about the first segment of the video shot in the supply house with the Portuguese fellas making training baskets. I'll bet that today, there is probably nobody left who practiced that old art. Everything now is cheap junk made in China. No internet back then either, so this video was really the first look that we Yanks really had of English rollers and English fanciers and just about the only exposure between fliers in both countries was by good old fashioned written letters that took weeks to go back and forth. This video was considered a very big deal at the time. It's really too bad that time has not been very kind to VHS tapes, but I'm glad that somebody saved this before it finally turned to dust and put it back out there for people.
@Robs Rollers The time sure flies. A few months before this video was shot, we had George Mason and Bill Barrett here in the states. I think George and Graham Dexter came back in 1990 to judge again. This was in the years before the World Cup. It was a really exciting time to be in rollers and considered to a very big deal to have guys from the breed's home country over here.
Great video 👍 it looks like you got some of these tapes just in time cos they are on their way out Mark. Hopefully you can/have put em all on disc for George .
