Frans Helmerson's metaphors are really spot on! Like the one filling a glass of water and continuing the pour after it's filled up. Great way to make other people understand how you think.

Frans Helmerson is one of the best cellists in Sweden, and europe, and I think in the whole world as well. When you hear him play, you don´t care about the technique, you just here the music! That´s the best with him!

We do not have a double bass masterclass in the catalogue, although we are gradually working our way around all the sections of the orchestra. If you want to suggest a maestro for a double bass masterclass, do let us know.

This is great teaching! It is a mutual exploration of the music and beutifully filmed. Frans Helmerson offers his insights so gently without undermining the performer. I'd love to see more like this!

@Cheskkay You are so right he's a wonderful teacher. Watch out for another masterclass DVD with Helmerson working on Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata. It will be out at the end of June and is just as good as the Dvorak.

-integrity of rhythm -development over/across one note -describing to student how you perceive them/their conceptions -x “just up bow down bow” > simplicity coming across as vague comments (useful?) -technical challenges disrupting/dictating musical intention/conception -contrast of adjacent or related passages -specific mechanical descriptions (technique)

Great masterclass. Wonderful teacher and student. But if I was that piano player... haha, I think I'd go crazy starting and stopping every few seconds! When I play piano, I'm just happy when I don't hit a wrong note! And not every great musician is gay... even if they were, who cares?

The student sounds indeed great at the beginning of the lesson, and is getting spoiled more and more towards the end. I feel sorry for him. That's an example how to destroy personality by musical masturbation.

Oh, my God. I had never realized I would hear the term "musical masturbation" until now and I love it.

Helmerson spoils this student. Dvorak does not require a new expression for each note, the contrary is true.It's just stupid what Helmerson says...
@eatmyspam
@eatmyspam 9 лет назад
When you take analysis of the music this seriously, it becomes musical masturbation. From the back of the hall, no one cares what the player's facial expressions and emotions are. We need to hear tone- this is what excites audiences. What excites a musician has absolutely nothing to do with what excites the audience.

The teacher cannot word metaphors correctly. He is a stupendous teacher though. He also seems to have trouble with english.

i love how the whole video works on the most boring part of the best movement of the concerto, i was waiting for it to go on to the big explosive part after that but it didnt
@SpaghettiToaster

Devon Zubka It's the most beautiful part of the concerto to many. Your tastes are not law. In fact, if you think this section is boring, they're not even good.
