It is great to see Tony finally expanding into more pro production. I really enjoyed his videos when he was first starting out. Big fan Tony! Keep them coming.
That counter balance is nice! We use the EX1 with the letus adapter, and if we aren't paying attention when we put it together, it becomes front heavy very quickly.
@schumacher3344 Hmmm... It seems to be working for me. You can go to our main website and click on the Facebook link on the right hand side, or just do a search for NextWaveDV on Facebook. Thanks for watching!
@xavier0307 In my own defense, we had just shot 10 episodes of HDSLR 101 and a 40 minute podcast. This was at about 7PM and I had been up since 6AM getting ready for the shoot. I was a bit tired, but still wanted to kick out the review while we had everything setup.
@formattester6 The 504HD feels like a completely different tripod then the 503 IMO. I didn't like the 503 either, but the 504HD feels good and I can get smooth movement in any direction.
I have the 502 and am quite impressed with it. As I need to purchase another head, I am wondering how the 504 compares with it and whether the extra cost is really worth it.
@NextWaveG as a disappointed owner of a 503, I'm reluctant to risk more money on Manfrotto brand. Maybe you could post some pan / tilt shots that demo the product in action? Thanks for the vids.
Just got this tripod, with my 7D iDC system zero rig, and I can get the quick release on the tripod head on its own, and it does go on the bottom of my iDC rig, but it wont go on with my camera on it?! SO CONFUSED!
You seem to be implying that the "issues" you had re: scratching your head were a fault of the Manfrotto head, when it just seems like a careless mistake on your part. We've all had things like this happen, but don't see how it's relavent to a review of the 504HD that your custom rig fit differently than on your Davis & Sanford head.
is there anyway to mount this 504 head to a set of manfrotto 055 carbon fiber Mag legs from the pro series. I know this is a bowl based head but I have those legs for photography and for know i dont want to invest in another set of legs for video, and want to be able to mount a good fluid head on it.
the 503HDV head has a bit of sticking and when trying to do diagonals or any type of circular movements its doesnt do it very good. i have a Vinten Vision 3 that is smooth and accurate in all directions though. does this head improve much on the 503?
Tony , my FS700 rig is 12lbs. I currently own a Kessler Herculies 2.0 that i use with carbon sticks. i wanted to get this head for my digital juice slyder dolly. Can the 75mm half bowl be taking off to make flat. i want my slyder to be as low as possible with this big head unless you have a better head recomendation. Thanks, Chia
Has anybody been able to get this Head to work with the Manfrotto 058/B Tripod? I received the Head & Pod in the mail today & can't see them working together : ( Help?
Not looking at the tripod, concentrating on the camera and pimp my ride gear, would rather have seen the tripod by itself or with just the camera on its own on top. Its about the tripod Tony not your camera dude ;0)
If you are coming from a 501 or 503hdv head you will love the 504. It is a definite step up and much more professional. But the real range of cameras that are working on this head is pretty narrow. Loads of 2-4 kg are working fine (thou you still have that rebound problem) - but anything more or less will not work at all. This is a mediocre hybrid friction head. You will get rebounding until you dial all the way up and then the action will be so thigh, you might as well use drag on any old el-cheapo head. For the money, you are better of with a used Sachtler, Vinten or even a Libec.
