Great video as always Cliff, I love to see the intricacies of installing the electronics and the thrust test is _very_ interesting considering the trouble others like the Petrincic Brothers have had with this plane!
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes

Thanks Tim, the thrust test was something I thought that would be interesting, it definately pulled to the left despite the built in offset, but the proof of the pudding is going to be in the air 🙂

@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 года назад
@@MarkCroucherRC4fun Not really, no, but I increased the right thrust, mine is the 2s version, less power equals less torque. The video will go into more detail but I talk about the cg and control horns as well 👍

Your bobber looks very nice. Please think of my tip to increase the motor camber to 5 degrees and if necessary to use a 3-axis gyro. Half-flap also help. It would be a shame about the work and the model Salute from Olaf

Cliff put plenty of down thrust and to the right this bird has crashed by many reviewers because they relied on the firewall having that built it but please add washers.

I've increased both down and right, you're right what you say 👍

Hi Cliff - kit came today, only damage I can find is some burning on the flap. Can inlay some balsa so no problem. This is the first kit I have built with flaps and I cannot figure the servo positioning. All the servos point towards the wing tip and facing towards the spar. I see that if using a y lead then the ailerons would work but the flaps would work the same, one up the other down. Am I getting something wrong, your input would be most helpful. Thank Colin
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 года назад
Hi Colin, you need to plug the flaps into a different channel on the receiver if I understand you correctly. Something I have thought of doing (but haven't yet) is to couple the flaps into the ailerons on a mix switch, this would increase the roll rate and switch back for landing. Having said that the flaps are an extra which I rarely employ anyway so you might fancy making them all aileron, cheers.

Nice work as usual what your round the pole getting smaller area when the models get bigger? Also have you gone for your full size Tiger Moth flight? if so do any aerobatics like you did with the model
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 года назад
Hi Robert, thanks, it did occur to me actually to try her rtp as an experiment but the line will have to be shorter (and stronger) 🙂 The Moth flight got postponed a couple of times this year but I'm still very much looking forward to next Spring when she come's out of the hangar again, the model's sitting in the rack right next to me as I type ... pure eye candy 👍

Looks great Cliff! Looking forward to the maiden! How does she balance? I think more than anything some of the guys having a hard time with this one are flying it tail heavy.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 года назад
Thanks Adam, the battery is all the way forward, 1600 2s, and, as you probably saw, I've added 60g of nose weight, she balances just in front of where the plan suggests, I did try taxying on my lawn but she noses over easily, the wheels are only just in front of the cg so it'll be a case of opening the throttle and getting her 'flying' on the ground first. I was hoping to just ease her into the sky and see what happens low down but I don't think I'm going to have that option. If all else fails it'll be a hand launch ... now that will be exciting!

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes I noticed the angle of the gear watching the video and thought that if it were me I might add some block stock and shim the back part of the gear so that it rakes the whole assembly forward somewhat.

Hello, it's great. I am sending you a message from Iran, where it is not possible to buy this model, that's why I am building a plane myself. Please, if possible, provide me with the map of this model, thank you.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes

Hi Darius, as this model is basically a Piper Cub the easiest thing to do is to download a Piper Cub plan from somewhere like Outerzone and modify the rear half of the fuselage to match 👍

Where did the slotted holes in the wing servo mounting plates come from ?
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Год назад
They were in the kit, have you thrown them out perhaps?
@rszanti
@rszanti Год назад
The cover plates had slots already ? I purchased an arf version - no slots in the plates. I ask because I can’t see a way to connect the pushrod using the slots in the wing.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Год назад
@@rszantiTake a look at 19:40 in Part three (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rCZNy6MuL7o.html), you'll see the slots, as yours is an arf perhaps they have been filmed over? The instructions say to mount the servos with the arms facing down into the wing and the pushrods come up through the holes with a bend in them to connect to the horn (I think from what I remember), I decided to fit the horns coming out of the wing and a straight control rod to the horns.

Such a good idea that "hang torque-test" u made, everyone who owns a Savage Bobber should do that. How do you plan to counter that effect?

@oldponytail

Cliff, could I ask what servos you used/recommend?
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 года назад
They were just the ones that came with the kit but they're only plastic gears so as long as you go for a servo that will physically fit and has metal gears as a bonus you'll be good to go 👍
@oldponytail
@oldponytail 2 года назад
I can't seem to find a 'Full Kit' at the moment. They have some in the US I think, but postage from the US to little old NZ, is off the charts! I can get a model from BangGood with much cheaper postage, but only with motor. I can get the ESC easily enough, but they have stopped producing the mini-servos (nylon gears) which were so light. I can't seem to find some small servos with metal gears anywhere near that weight; and there are six of them to add up. ie considerably heavier. I can do that, but do you think the supplied motor and airframe will take that. A more powerful motor perhaps? I'm very new to 'building' models. I have usually bought Ready to Fly. So I'm a bit nervous about mixing and matching components. Anyway, keep entertaining and educating us Cliff. It's always fun to watch.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 года назад
@@oldponytail The added weight wouldn't be much of a problem. The nylon gears are very easily broken if you knock a flying surface that's why metal gears are preferable. Don't worry about mixing components, that's how you learn. The motor is reasonably powerful I would try first then see but if you have something a little bigger it wouldn't hurt. The airframe seems pretty tough, Thanks for commenting OPT, like and subscribe if you're not already. What's your name anyway? Cheers 👍

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Thanks Cliff. My name is Len. Originally a Londoner but moved to NZ in 1989. Retired now. Was in a technical medical career. Also was full-sized gliding instructor. Retired from that at the same time as work. It's not a cheap pastime! My interest in RC came when I retired and was given a Volantex Phoenix Evolution as a present. Naturally my initial RC flying revolved around gliding but I'm now trying my hand with power models. Thanks for all your helpful advice. I really enjoy your channel for what I learn and the fun you convey. Take care.
