Absolutely! We have our factory tours almost every Thursday at 2 pm. At the end of the factory tour you get to check out the showroom and maybe even play the kits that are set up at that time. If are ever in the southern CA area feel free to contact our Customer Service at customerservice@dwdrums.com to book a spot on the tour.
The more things I hear that you guys do, the more deeply in love all fall with the company! You guys seem to care about the customer and what they want more than any company I know of!
thanks for the compliment! Lead times vary depending on the finish type. The range is from FinishPly™ which is 4 weeks, to Exotics at 8 weeks. All other finishes fall in between those two extremes.
Great question. We found in editing that the sound the mic produced in front of the kit was a better quality but still keeping a real in the room type of sound. Hope that helps!
Here's our response from your last post. Thanks for inquiring! 9x13, 14x24 Bass drum, 16x16 floor tom and 6x14 snare. This would be the Classic in the actual first video but this might now be the one you are asking about. The first Classic kit Kirkee plays in the second video is a 9x12, 14x14, 16x16 and 16x22 inch bass drum.
Yes! There is about a 4 month lead time because we need to send the rack parts out for Gold plating. It is a very delicate process. The pricing is 4 times more than the standard pricing for the Rack parts and system. Thanks for watching!
@Deathhunter992 Thanks for checking in! We are currently editing the 2011 Showroom Video. We should have it uploaded with in a week. Kirkee B and Thomas Lang this time!
Thanks for liking it! This kit is the top of the line as far as pricing goes. We do have exact pricing for our drums direct from our factory here. This is an Exotic kit called Tropical Olive. If you would like specific pricing on this finish with your size choices please contact your local authorized DW drums dealer. Thanks! locator(dot)dwdrums(dot)com/drum/
Great to hear you are enjoying DW drums even though it your friend's kit. Thanks so much for liking DW and please let your friend know we said thanks also. :)
@finebro123 thanks for the kind words! It all depends on finish, sizes, and dealer. The only way to find out for sure is to contact a dealer near you. If you go to our website, you can find one on the "Dealer Locator" in the nav bar.
that may change very soon ;) stay tuned. but to better answer your question, DW is fully custom, so it really depends on how many pieces and what kind of finish. A 4pc FinishPly™ kit is going to cost between $3k and $4K street price (msrp list price will be higher).
@Max3229S We did actually an 805 series kit a few years back for a Rev kit. It went well because the Rev is a legend! We appreciate your suggestion and all respect goes to the Rev. :)
i went with the standard 22, 10, 12, 14, and a 14 snare. i also bought a collecter series 14 snare. they all sound amazing! i have dw rack system which is very useful and dw 5500 double pedals and hi hat.. Thanks so much for making these great drums dw!
It has been a while but we believe the snare was a 6 or 7X14 and the rest of the kit was 10x10, 12x12, 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms with a 20x22 inch bass drum. The snare drum sounds like a VLT ply configuration. This would be a 10 ply snare with the inner and outer most plies flipped in a vertical grain too make the lower tones more prominent. The finish is a Vertical Zebra exotic wood. Hope this helps!
ProgGuy! The showroom is not necessarily a place to visit specifically but we can say that if you take our factory tour you will visit the showroom. This is usually the last stop on our tours that happen almost every Thursday at 2 pm!
@GodsmackLoverOracle "Deep shell configurations" is just referring to the depth of the shells on that kit. Back in the 70s and 80s, there was a big trend of deep shells. They provide more volume and a more dry, open sound as opposed to the more focused and punchy sound of "short stack" toms that became popular in the late 90s.
@Drumzmer555 you would probably have a cymbal stand behind your floor tom(s) anyway, so using the same stand to mount your tom(s) and cymbal is also a great use of space and hardware. There's no "right" or "best" way...just "Your" way. That's the beauty of drum kits!
One reason that's so great about this video is that, obviously cause thy're Dw kits! But other than that is that Curt focused on the drums, rather than playing more on the cymbals, like some people might do.
@TheQuigonjohn well...the drums in this video that he refers to as "secret drums" may never come out. However, we do have a new DW Series that will be available this Fall...and we're VERY excited about it ;)
@Drumzmer555 great question. Suspending floor toms (mounting) was very popular for a while, but the pendulum seems to be swinging the other way for now. Mounting with our STM system should allow the drum to vibrate more freely, thus producing more sustain and perhaps even more tone. However, legs are by far more sturdy, and personally, I don't hear much tonal/sustain difference. For me, I prefer the stability, flexibility (positioning), and self-sufficiency of legs, but it takes all kinds ;)
For this video the Underwater or Toxic Waste kit was a smaller portion of it's bigger original self at 8x10, 12x14, 5x14 snare and 18x20 bass drum. This kit eventually went to an artist of ours.
Yes we can! The finish was described as Toxic Waste. It is a specially priced kit. We do not do any pricing direct from our factory here if you are interested. Feel free to get the sizes you want together and contact your local authorized DW drums dealer for pricing info if you like! locator(dot)dwdrums(dot)com/drum/
@rlmofreg First, thank you for your kind words and support. As you know, we are a custom drum company. While we do our best to offer as many custom options as possible, we are always excited to think outside the box. If a custom hardware color is what you want, we will do our best to make your concept a reality. Just remember, super custom will also add cost.
We do not. We have assembled acrylic shells for artists in the past but that a very special case. We like wood shells and will continue to work with wood for drums shells.
@rauchin863 good question. the workshop is generally closed to the public (no walk-ins). We give public tours every Thursday at 2pm (PST). You need to contact our Customer Service department to reserve a spot on these tours, as they do have a person limit. That said, if Thursdays at 2 will not work for you, contact our CS department and they will likely "work something out." DW customer service department: customerservice@dwdrums.com 1-800-45-DRUMS
@LoZfan95 that was somewhat of a prototype SSC that has not yet become an official option. It has an extremely small amount of shell tension...like you could actually squeeze the shell with your hands. Of course, hoops help that, and yes, they were very low pitched.
@BattleAxe17x We do not do any pricing or ordering direct from our factory unfortunately. Please check with your local DW drums dealer for that info. Specs for the Rev's kit are below. 7x8 8x10 9x12 11x14 14x16(legs) 16x18(legs) 18x22(2) Bass Drums
We actually made a Buddy Rich series for a year with Beaver style lug casings. We do offer Tube lugs for snare drums only. We can do the tube lugs for the snare drum on a Classic's kit for you no problem.
@Pokadrumographer Unfortunately, if the drum is not still under warranty, we do not do refinishing and we are not able to sell the wraps for counterfeit reasons. That said, there are 2 companies that are great at doing this: Precision Drum and Rockin Wraps. A google search of either will get you what you need ;)
all your numbers make sense. The "b" refers to the natural resonating pitch of that shell (w/o hardware). Unfortunately, our computer system only goes back to 2001, so I cannot pull up the original order for that drum, but the experts here confirmed a SO# like 50622 would be in the '96 to '98 vintage. This was also confirmed as a time that Johnny was not regularly signing his shells. the number on the outside is a serial number that is primarily used for insurance purposes only. Cheers!
@R3STRIKT3D no need for apologies, it's a good question. Yes, the camera man was simply holding it...well, actually someone else was standing next to the cameraman holding it.
Well there is almost too many to choose from. That's why we always encourage our customers to pick their finish because the finish will last as long as the drums will and that potentially could be a life time. Sorry we did not mention this before but the Performance series does not have a 13 inch tom and the 16 inch is 14 deep by 16 tall. Check the sizing chart and finish options on the link below and let us know what you think! dwdrums(dot)com/drums/performance/sizes(dot)asp
@DeadtreeFilms1 Actually I dont remember anyone asking this before. :) We basically have about 3-4 people who maintain our showroom. I'm sure when a head gets broken it would be replaced quickly. Once the heads or head is getting beat we replace it pretty quickly.
@307236 yes indeed! well...not Curt's talking. That was captured with a shotgun mic on the camera. But ALL kit audio is from the Zoom H4n only. Seriously, all Zoom mics are amazing. I use the H2 every week to record my band rehearsals.
@DannyWDrums anyone who takes the factory tour gets to be let loose in the showroom. The tours are every Thursday at 2pm PST. You must reserve your spot on the tour in advance with our Customer Service department to do so, email CustomerService@DWdrums.com or call 1-800-45-DRUMS. The tour is free, we just limit it to 10 people so that everyone can hear and get the best possible experience.
@swaggprince25 We have a formal application process that everyone must go through. You can download the application and read more about it here: ://bit(dot)ly/endorseDW Your odds of getting an endorsement deal are greater if you already have other endorsements (cymbals, sticks, heads, etc...), a recording contract, and a touring schedule.
Its a natural to charcoal burst gloss finish. I use the new Evans g-plus clears on the batter and g 1's on the resonant. Plus an Evans emad on the kick batter and a Power centre reverse dot on snare. to give me a real sharp crack that I love. I can't describe the qualities except to say that they make the drums sound like a "million bucks", and they make this 56 yr vold very happy. Thank you.
@drummer8616 Sorry for the "mystery" of the secret drums at the end of this video. These drums are still not released and most likely wont be. They were a stave shell that didn't sound exactly the way we wanted too. Not good enough to add the tp DW Drums line up.
@1DrummerNick unfortunately, we do not offer the snakeskin wrap. This was a custom wrap from Rocken Wraps (google search will get you there) We do not sell direct, so I wouldn't be able to give you an official price anyways. But he did have a pretty big kit, so I would imagine it would cost between 7K and 10K (for drums only). If you are SERIOUSLY interested, I can dig deeper for info.
@jakeypooh96 indeed. Every factory tour ends in this room and you are given permission to play the kits. The tours are every Thursday at 2pm. You must reserve your spot with customer service: customerservice@dwdrums.com or 1-800-45-DRUMS
