I grew this plant form a cutting. It is a very vigorous and productive variety. Mulberries have a great taste - like a sweet blackberry without the tartness.
If you pick these or if you pick blackberries or pick blueberries it is good to let them sit in the container for 24 hours before putting them in the fridge. This will sweeten them up tremendously.
Thanks for a nice profile. One question, when you say this variety has small fruits, what are you comparing it to ? Other dwarfs or are they the standard varieties ?
I am comparing it to other varieties such as Shangri La or Pakistani, neither of which is a dwarf. Usually the term dwarf tends to refer to the rate of growth or mature size of the tree, and isn’t a property of the fruit.
Very cool - i have a regular white mulberry - not worth it because it is too large and i need to cut it back every year. Curious what variety, i am also in 9B but in Florida. You should do a video on the wine
Hi! There are different varieties of mulberries and these are one of the smaller ones. I’ll post some videos of Shangri La and Pakistani varieties this season. They are both bigger.
I bought five but because of the way they were shipped I broke one and it perished. I hope to not only get lots of fruit but also use them to distract the birds away from my fig trees which may have the opposite effect. Who knows. But I feed the birds and they eat a lot of pests in my garden so I need them around. Hopefully by planting a LOT of fruit there will still be enough for all of us. There were so many blackberries last year that we all had plenty in the big patch.
Can you do a video when you prune your tree? I have one in a 5 gal pit right now and it’s 1 yr old. But am concerned on starting the pruning process for next year. I would love to have it look like yours. Very impressive.
It’s growing on its own roots - not grafted on a rootstock. The variety is dwarfed compared to other mulberry varieties that can reach like 60ft tall. However for a normal home garden it will get as big as you want.
