This was WONDERFUL. We thank the lady in the audience for being so precise and specific in asking the question. and for Dwight's graciousness in being detailed and specific with his colorful memories.
I also admire Dwight for being respectful and diplomatic when talking about Peppard and T, especially considering that Peppard had died many years ago. Dwight and Dirk have remained friends ever since they worked on the A-Team, which is wonderful.
Dwight Schultz is indeed one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood history. His performance on the A-Team was nothing short of stellar. He should have won an Oscar for his acting abilities on that show. He was so hilarious! He always put a smile on my face no matter what was happening in my world. Season 1 episode 4 Pros and cons I WANT TRAAAASHH BAAAGGSS! 🤣
Thank you to Dwight amd Dirk for being team players. That show meant the world to me as a kid. So in essence they both came in early and stayed late bc they cared about what we the audience saw. They worked extra hard for all of us.
I'm old enough to have watched (and loved ) this show during its original run. Back then I never knew any of this about the actors, but even then Murdock was my favorite. (I'd never seen (still haven't) any of Peppard's or T's other roles and had only seen Dirk on "Battlestar Galactica," so I watched the "A-Team" without any preconceptions of the actors.)
Same here. I was a kid when The A-Team was on and Murdock was my fave because he was so much fun to watch. Now that I'm watching it as an adult, I appreciate his performances even more, especially his impressions and accents. He was awesome!
By far and away Dwight and Dirk were the two most talented members of that cast. I could sit and listen to Dwight Schultz tell stories until the day I die. This guy is hilarious.
I agree... Dwights character was the star of that show... he would fall into a stream of consciousness of insanity that was akin to Robin Williams but even more brilliant... and it couldn't have been scripted because it came too fast. It's also odd how men with charisma are often miserable. Peppard sounds a lot like Van Johnson who was also charismatic but who lived a miserable, depressed life. Peter Sellers was like that also. I guess it goes with the territory.
@@56squadron that's one way of looking at George peppard's eccentricities. Lol. Of course, another way of looking at it is that he was just a total a hole. Lmao.
@@desmulhern6872 George peppard was extremely talented. However, he did lac self-awareness. To that end, he never really show the proper respect for the people that he worked with.
@@dr.fitprofessor4363His personal flaws as a person have nothing to do with his level of talent though. He was superb in The A-team, as the ultra cocky Hannibal and acted everyone else off the screen.
This reminds me of Jon Lord talking about working with Ritchie Blackmore: the same style of very cautious, kind, civil, well thought through (and possibly rehearsed a couple dozen times) yet apparently completely sincere answer to what could have been a 'tricky' question if a rookie had to field it.
@@handsolo1209 As Murdoch, Dwight was leagues above the rest who all did very good jobs. He had to be as his character had the most variety. But it was an ensemble that was perfectly cast.
@@Isleofskye I didn't count Mr T as an actor. He was a "star" but never an "actor". Of course, Dirk Benedict was only an actor in the loosest sense of the word...
I met George Peppard in London. He was starring in a play and I waited outside the theatre after his performance of Love Letters with Elaine Stritch. Mentioned to Peppard that I liked him in "Operation Crossbow". I further noted MGM his home studio should have starred him more. He agreed. Peppard was pleasant.
I met Dwight Schultz at collectamania and unlike others he was not just very polite but he stayed at his table all day ready to sign autographs. On a side note met the late Carrie Fisher and she was fabulous, she had her picture taken with my niece even with the big sign saying no photographs.... Adam West another great star even checked the photo on my camera & said no let's take another... upset their assistants who said no photos!!! Many stars out there but very few great personalities. Better mention Warwick Davis another great one always been very polite to fans.
In my eyes Dwight Schultz was the star of the show as his comedy and love he brought to it was pure and genuine. I grew up wanted to be a crazy pilot just like Howling Mad Murdock I'm 40 years old now crazy mental and off my loop so I brought a drone so I can be the Easter version of a pilot. Achieved. 🤪
Pretty much the same way George Costanza (Jason Alexander) was the real star of Seinfeld in my book. The best actor doing the best and most interesting character.
Dwight comes across as a true gentleman, very approachable, genuinely nice guy.funny. Witty and a true professional! 😊 he’s proof you should meet your idiol.
I disagree. Her question was very carefully expressed, even including corroboration from a Dirk Benedict appearance. And her English is far better than that of rambling fanboys who can't utter a sentence without "like" or "you know."
@@daveconleyportfolio5192 Doesn't mean she wasn't nervous and might have stumbled a little. Even the most fluent speakers have their moments where they lose words or stumble them if they're nervous.
Well he was my favorite A-Team member... Great story and Dwight is a very nice talented person. Now that I am an adult I laugh even more when Murdock does his stuff. Very funny. The reason I watched the A-Team was and always will be Hannibal Smith. Man what a great actor. Watch The blue max, operation crossbow, tobruk, banacek, night of the fox, etc etc
I thought Peppard was outstanding as Banacek. I’m surprised no one ever did a reboot of that. It would be a perfect vehicle for Michael Weatherly. In The A Tram, Peppard drive the plot with some standard lines and his catchphrase “I love it when a plan comes together,” but it was the team that provided the balance of seriousness and comedic content. Murdock and Face were my favourite characters. I’m happy that Dwight found his feet and became such a beloved character in Star Trek. I would like to see him as a character in some modern TV shows. I would especially like to see him The Orville as a nod to his ST background. He also has that look of someone who would pop up on TWD or FTWD for a season as a protagonist. Maybe his current work is enough to satisfy his artistic work and give him enough time to spend with family. Big TV shows tend to separate actors from their families for long periods of time, a reason Andrew Lincoln quoted regarding his break from playing Rick Grimes. Fair play, Mr Schulz, you will be remembered for all the entertainment you provided!
Murdock was the most complex and most intresting charakter and that only because of Dwights insane skill. I always liked Murdock the most ! Big A Team fan
I recall falling in love with Murdoch's character. The brilliance of this wonderful and underrated actor, has had such a lasting effect,I still go by the brilliant insanity of Murdoch. God bless this great actor!
Talk about talent. Dwight Schultz could do it all.. Funny He could sing Ab lib Impressions Each and every episode he did something different. Great video 👍👌
Grew up watching this show with my dad and still go back once in a while to watch episodes. Such great acting and chemistry. Natural flow and stories. Unlike 99% of hollywood today.
Watching this in 2022 The A-Team was a favorite of my boys we’d watch the show laugh and cheer , my boys loved Mr T ,I enjoyed Dwight Shultz talent and still do Thank You for sharing your Talent and giving America a show for generations blessings from Pennsylvania 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏
The woman asking the question is.....special. I love how she repeatedly mentions George's FULL name and then looks displeased and disgusted (but interested) throughout the video.
It's funny because I thought Murdoch and Face were by far the most entertaining characters on the show. Especially Murdoch. He seemed like the best actor of the group too actually.
I loved all the characters in their own way.. That's what made it so good for me murdock was always the best though.. And to see the guy who played him look so fresh and vital has made my memories of the ateam even better :)
There were The A-team action figures in the 80's. My mother let me choose only one. I vacillated between Hannibal and Murdock. Finally I chose the Murdock one, because Murdock was able to act in the most dimensions, he was the most flexible one. I did never regret my choice. Nowadays I am a bit like Murdock, thanks to his humour he is able to surive the difficulties of war and every day life. In that way he is very sane.
I've always loved Murdock the most, though I enjoy all of them. You are right, Schultz was the most versatile by far. Everything he did on the show he did brilliantly -- comedy, drama, accents, impersonations, etc.
When I was 19 I worked in a bicycle shop and I sold 2 bikes to George Peppard- he and his wife at the time came into the shop- and about the only thing I remember is that his wife swore like a drunken sailor the entire time. She wasn’t angry or anything, she was actually in a very good mood- but every other word out of her mouth was an expletive spoken at high volume. I can’t even imagine what she might have been screaming to get him to hit her with a frying pan.
Was she.."Elizabeth Ashley", she was known as a good-natured hell raiser, they were married twice, one son, she wrote a Hollywood bio, in it she both disparaged and praised him
I've never seen an episode of "The A Team" (though snippets here & there) but found this interview very interesting. Intelligent & thoughtful. Thanx for uploading for us to enjoy !
U can tell in the show Dirk and dwight were good friends their chemistry was great... Does explain why Murdoch and Faceman always seems to pair off together while hannibal and BA teamed up alot too...lol
And people think William Shatner was hard to work with. Shatner may have been a bit difficult at times, but he doesn't sound like the uncooperative diva that Peppard was said to be.
@@Scorp308 - That's not true though. He doesn't "come clean". He says he didn't realize that the minor actors on Star Trek felt that way about him and he apologized about it.
Now you know why Dirk and Dwight are life long friends. They put up with a lot on the A-team. Almost like kids in a family watching mom and dad fight all the time.
My sister had a sit down meeting with Stephan cannal about some writing work. She gave me a copy of rideing the snake he wrote and gave her an autographed copy no less
A number of big movie stars made the transition back to TV - James Garner in 'The Rockford Files', for one. Also, whilst I'm not defending Peppard, it should also be noted that in later seasons, Mr. T reportedly became very diva-ish - which came to a head during filming of s4's 'Judgement Day', where Mr. T found members of the crew sitting at a dining table reserved for him, walked off the set (they were filming on an ocean liner at the time; which is why B.A. barely features in the second half of that story), and initially refused to return unless the crew in question were fired; Peppard refused to speak to him for a time afterwards, as he thought T's actions were out of line, and said that if the crew members in fired, then he would leave too. In all my years of A-Team documenting, although Peppard certainly had his nose put out of joint by Mr. T's popularity eclipsing his role in the series, it does appear that both could be as bad as each other on occasion.
good story- i like you guys in a-team- and i think peppard was great- whatever happened behind the camera- it came out great on tv !! thanx for that an god bless you
Dwight Schultz. I have enjoyed watching you playing Murdock. Murdock reminded me of Jim Carrey from In Living Colors. I like Murdock sense of humor on the show. I thank God for the character you have played back in the day. It means a lot to me. Murdock has kept me laughing and smiling and making me forget having a hard day. May God bless you with greater health, a lot of joy, and healing in your body and mind, and soul. More love and support to you, Dwight Schultz. Take care and Be safe.
wisdog it was an episode he was imprisoned with the rest of Ateam and to escape they made a hot air balloon out of trash bags...he ran around acte like a but asking for trash bags.
That's interesting, thnx for being respectful to Peppard, Dwight! You are an awesome actor, loved your voice work on VAMPIRE HUNTER D II, and you landing STNG is no fucking coincidence, you're attracted to great things
Dwight Schulz yg berperan sebagai HM Murdock, pilot hebat yg bisa menerbangkan segala jenis pesawat terbang di film seri The A Team.Film seri TV yang populer di era tahun 1980an, dan saya adalah penonton setia nya
Just by Chance i found this Channel !!! Wow Dwight schulz is amazing and aged very gracefully !! Murdock and b.a ( and the van !) where my two favoritos .. but i Loved all of them , peppard, face man ( and his corvetas! ).. Such Great Child Memorys ... Great Music theme .. still Listen to it .. but i have t rewatch the Show ! Thanks .. By the way in school everybody Said i was the murdock
George was a bigger star than the others in the beginning. But Dirk had been on TV & MrT in Rocky. Besides which 10 year old boys would not know about George.
