Who's listening to this in 2024 ??? I'm 53 and this tune always takes me back to older days. *Edit* I love reading the comments about how much happiness his tunes have brought to so many.
Yup. Saw him last year. The Mavericks opened. It rocked. Cheers from Nashville! (He’s one of the only country guys I really Love besides all the outlaw boys) Nashville pop country sucks !!!
This song has been a favourite since I first heard it ….Makes me dream of leaving everything behind and just enjoying the freedom of where I’m at and enjoying doing just nothing ….
I was alone in my truck. Diesel engine crying. Moon lit the highway ... just one long silver band in the night . When this came on... I couldn't wipe the tears away . I couldn't turn it off. And I over a hundred miles per hour when the song finished... But the desert seemed to go on forever... I dont remember the sun coming up... just the night. And the drive... and being alone... Thank you Mr. Dwight...
@@jamiecee4960 i had the privilege of seeing DWIGHT YOAKAM in concert in 93 at a club in Dallas Tx and he was so great and the band was so tight,,ill never forget that night
"I got bruises on my memories, tear stains on my hands" damn! that is gut wrenching poetry, and i'm there almost daily. Just beautiful. Truly brilliant Dwight!
And that most of the country artists of today’s music sounded too smiler to one another or sounded sameness and sing about the boring same old red sundress of a girl, a big truck and a nice cold beer lol. This man is legit. I’m loving this dudes music. He’s amazing! 👌
Dwight Yoakam is not an underrated singer, he is one of the best, his name is legend in the country music world, up there with George, George, Hank and Alan Jackson. Dwight can still fill a stadium.
@@looloo6322 apparently they were all underrated. Check any comment feed on any older country music video. At least one person has said they were underrated. I guess along with their millions they also deserved a crown of jewels or something.
@@KeanureevesOFPthank you for reading comments...might I say it may be time for you yo put a one rock back in the music business...we need more people like you writing meaningful songs
@@sonnymoore7984 Thanks once again for not giving up on my music aspirations I feel special. I am really honored to have you as a fan. I be honored to add you in my special fan club where you can ask me questions about my music concert and ongoing meet and great
I heard this first , in the 90s on MTV after my mom got us out of a group home . 2024 today still alive and well with our own 3 yr old baby boy . No foster care for this little guy . God's good Gen curse broke !
There is a interview with hin explaining this I will try to send it to you I am almost 70 and just getting educated about this interweb thing Learning to navigate it I will do my worst Haha
Today is my 41st birthday. This man can still blow any artist out of the water. I listen to all genres but guess what? Yoakam is timeless, no matter the decade or era.

The video was the brain child of Carolyn Mayer who tragically was on the first plane that hit the first tower. She had taken her daughter to college in Boston and was headed back to California when her plane hit the first tower. I always play this song on 9/11 to remember her as this is a great song and unique video.
I AGREE COUNTRY MUSIC LIKE DWIGHT YOAKAM WAS DONE BECAUSE HE LOVED SINGING IT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN SINGING HIS MUSIC EVEN IF HE NEVER WOULD HAVE BECOME FAMOUS
@@noediaz9636 &all I lost my mother 3 years ago and, in terms of pain, it feels like it happened just yesterday... But don't forget about one simple thing... Good people don't die when they descend into the grave! They die only if they descend into oblivion. So, as long we will remeber them, they'll be still with us. This is how I learned to live with that lost. God bless you all!
Wow Reminds Me Of My Time Studying In Hawaii, Thousands Of Miles From Nowhere, In The Middle Of The Pacific Ocean So True, About 14,000 Miles Away From KL My Home
Dwight isn't just a great singer but also a great actor. He was an incredibly believable monster in "Sling Blade." A flawless interpretation of an abusive alcoholic, worthy of an Oscar.
this song and the cd helped me get through my divorce while I was stationed in Okinawa Japan and it was the best thing that happed to me just missed my sons while I was in The Marine Corp Semper Fi
@@andy6043 : Definitely. I was fortunate I guess. As you know, it wasn't all easy or rosy, but it was well worth it and a great experience that changed my life. All the best to you as well good sir.
I probably haven’t listened to this song since 94-95. It literally just popped into my head out of nowhere and had to come listen. I forgot how incredible it is
“I’ve got heartaches in my pocket,....” Who else can write a line like that? We’ve all had to carry heartaches in our pockets but only one person put those words down. Awesome!
This song is timeless!!!! It plays regularly in rotation on my playlist. These days with a little different meaning to me than when it was released. In the day it would bring my dad out on the open road to my mind. These days he is a little farther away. Lost him in 5 days to Covid. Love everything Dwight.
Reminds me of a Texas hay run. I was coming in on the Garden City highway towards Midland. Listening to a country station. Truck engine purring like a kitten. Could have stayed in that moment forever. Loved it
Everything about this tune is perfect: the songwriting, execution, and production. Perfect. The kind of tune that could be 30 minutes long and still be too short because you just want more of it. Thanks Dwight!
❤❤❤ WOW! I CAN'T STOP COMMENTING ABOUT DWIGHT YOAKAM AND THIS SONG. IT'S AWESOME AND BRINGS SO MANY MEMORIES OF WHEN MY HUSBAND BOUGHT ME MY LITTLE SPORTS CAR. A 1986 DATSUN 280 ZX WITH GLASS T ROOFS, AWESOME STEREO SOUND SYSTEM, COMPUTERIZED DASH AND LOADED TO THE HILT! MY HUSBAND WAS A GOOD MAN. HIS WAY OF TELLING ME HE LOVED ME WAS HE BROUGHT ME MATERIAL THINGS. HE WAS NEVER ONE TO SAY, "I LOVE YOU"! I LONGED TO HEAR HIM TELL ME THAT HE, LOVED ME. THAT'S THE ONLY THING I REGRET! HE AWAITS ME IN HEAVEN SINCE OCT 5, 2013.
Ditto to that Jenny! I love this song too! ever since it came out, It's exactly in my vocal range, and I sing in a Church choir, so every Saturday morning this goes on, cranked right up, so I can let my total voice out, and get it warmed up. I'll say a prayer for you next time I sing it, and remember, we will all be back together one day! Cheers.
Philip Germani oh. Yeah. Don't miss him Just go get his last two albums ,they are all Dwight but he didn't stand completely still He s getting better vocally and on guitar. He's currently tryin a little bluegrass A rolling stone catches no moss. His current line up , especially his lead guitarist - is full value A premier singer songwriter with lots left in the tank
Dwight has a unique talent! I have 18 albums! The radio doesnt play his music here in the East so i bought my own! Also a great album with John Mellencamp alot of his Dwight on the Falling From Grace Album! I know how to get his music!
TheRoadhammer379 I actually drive a cab, but I see more of the inside of the car then I do my friends and family. Thanks for the acknowledgement though.

I know what you mean . Think about it this way . When its you . The moon . The truck . And the highway . Thats all you need . When something grabs you like this does . Thats when the magic happens .
LOVE LOVE HIS MUSIC. I’m a truck driver and love blasting this song when I’m on back country roads. America is so beautiful!! LOVE LOVE Dwight’s songs.💕💕🤠
I first heard this song sitting in a Texas Roadhouse restaurant playing on their country music TV. It immediately made me turn my head to find out who the heck was singing this song. I immediately looked it up on Amazon and bought the CD. One of the best songs I've ever heard!
Drove a truck 43yrs. Stroke retired me in 15. I'd still be driven. This song really hits home. I-40 west bound northern Arizona. Between Winslow, Holbrook, Flaggstaff. Your at 6000 ft. Can see forever. 1000 miles from no where!!! Tell um Dwight!!!
As a truck driver this was my theme song seemed like everything was true about it always a thousand miles from nowhere thank you for producing this song Thank You Dwight for singing it one hell of a great song for us guys out there on the road all the time

Yes, hell is where it will get you if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Country music will not save your soul. 1 John 2:15-17 New Living Translation 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. James 4:4 New Living Translation 4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God." Mark 8:36 New Living Translation 36 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

My beautiful friend from Atlanta made a cassette for me years ago, 90's, because i told her "the only 2 types of music i dont like are Country & Western" [note: Hee Haw was the only thing to watch on TV in the late 60's Sat night, yuk!] until i heard this I'd never, EVER, been a fan of C&W but this song flipped me. Soooo pretty, nice work Dwight.
July 1993 I was driving a moving van cross country from Tampa to Oakland by way of Kansas City, and this song was on every country station for all 3,000 miles of the trip. Epic.
@@randyduncan4004 That's such a random connection you made, but it's true. The NBA was a gigantic piece of my life back in the 90's. If you wanna talk about things that aren't coming back, then what about Saturday morning cartoons?
@@dwightyoakam669 hope you had a good birthday. a young musician came up from me watching you -sonny french- who sings streets of bakersfield. he is like ricky nelson .take care.
But they will not save your soul. You have to be a friend of Jesus Christ and live for him to be saved. Country western music or singers will not save your soul.
I see it! Lol, just 5 minutes ago I was listening to "fast as you" and I thought to myself "sounds like if Kurt Cobain was a country artist" 😄 I am sure we can make all kinds of connections even jumping across genres
