I love Dwight's unique sound. He is high on my favorites list. His duet with Buck Owens "Streets of Bakersfield" is excellent, but he hasn't done a bad song.
This song, and a lot of Dwight's songs, aren't actually country, but rather Rockabilly. That's a genre that was a blend of country and rock n roll that had its origins in the South when rock n roll first broke out in the 50s.
Check out the “Streets of Bakersfield” video, Dwight and Buck Owens. Someone pointed out that Buck misses his cue at about the :45 second mark as he is turning around from the lunch counter and Dwights’ reaction is priceless. They left it in the video.
Awww hell, ya done it now, got me sidestepping all over the den with a whiskey glass in my hand. Yoakam put out some great stuff, plenty of fun to be had.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT you're fast becoming my favorite reactor on youtube..I subscribed to dozens probably hundreds. I enjoy people discovering the music I love. I really appreciate your intelligent analysis of songs. Please react to "When You Say Nothing At All " by Alison Krauss...possibly the most beautiful voice in music.
@@lincolnlewis6979 This song was originally written and, sang by the late great Keith Whitley, Kentucky born and raised! Alison covered after Keith's death!
@@naomiwarner7117 thanks, I know it's a keith Whitley song, love his version but happen the prefer Alison's version (can't go wrong with either though)
Two of my favorite artists are Doug Stone and he has fun songs but some of the best love songs ever ... Addicted to a dollar (a fun one) and More Love ( a love ballet)
He's had a few high profile movie roles too..some of these older country videos are so funny to me since Im born and raised in Nashville....always catch places and areas I know personally, Ive seen my elementary school and where I played little league ball in videos even! lol
Dwight Yoakam and Lyle Lovett are two of the best and most unique country voices from the last 30 years. Good actors too, especially Dwight. For more Dwight check out Fast as You and Pocket of a Clown. For Lyle Lovett try That's Right (You're not from Texas) and My Baby Don't Tolerate.
I love the California Bakersfield sound. It is a sub genre of country music. They (Buck and friend) were the first to add a back beat and electrify their instruments in country.
This is a great song. And you are just so irresistibly sweet and cute. I love your take on this. You are so right that country has so many different styles/influences within it. Rock, gospel, bluegrass, etc. So fun seeing you enjoy this. He’s got some other good ones, but this was definitely one of the best!
Here are some more upbeat songs from Dwight I think you’ll enjoy: Lil Sister, Turn it on, Turn it Up and Turn me Loose, Little Ways and Honky Tonk Man.
I’m from Georgia, too, and always was a rocker. This was one of the first Country songs that I listened to. I’m from North GA, where my family were Bluegrass musicians. I rebelled and wouldn’t listen to anything but Rock and Hip Hop. Now I love all genres.
Dwight Yoakam's 'FAST THAN YOU' & THOUSAND MILES FROM NOWHERE are amazing songs. We love your selections - keep up the good work. NOTE: These recommended sons have that rocking country feel that makes you wanna dance and have a good time.
Thank you so much. I remember this song being on the SEEBURG juke box in my Grandpa's restaurant. There were 45 rpm record's in it and the man would come every two week's and change out the record's. I remember one day around Christmas, and this guy would pump it full of quarter's, then play "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" over and over and over. Gramp's took it for so long, then he quietly pulled the plug and hung an out of order sign on it. What great times to grow up. I saw, and was in, more good "bar fight's" in that diner than any bar!!!
Hes giving early 60s chuck berry, little richard rock n roll. I love lisyenjng to him because u can hear his musical influences. What i wouldnt give to get a time machine and get him, ray charles, jerry lee lewis, and chuck berry on a stage together 😍
This Rock-A-Billy music. It and Blues are the basis of rock and roll. Would love to see you react to some Lefty Frizzell, in particular "Long Black Veil" and "Life's Like Poetry".
George Strait Check yes or no. I live down the road from Nashville and have for 65 years. I can give you the names of funny country or cry your eyes out country...😁😁 George Strait is known as the King of country...💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
It's called Rock-A-Billy, sweet girl. If you like his moves, you should react to "Fast As You" In his day...If blue Jean's were a religion, Dwight Yoakam would be their God. (sigh)
Filmed in the mid 70's in the Aragon Ballroom on Chicago's uptown Lawrence Ave at Broadway. The tavern, Hillbilly Heaven was across the street. Fun times lol.
Dwight is the best at country imo. Streets of Bakersfield, Turn it On Turn it Up, It Only Hurts When I Cry, Always Late, .. I've seen this guy play live 3 times, (and i'm not even big into country)
That's the Bakersfield (California) sound. Dwight, Merle Haggard, and Buck Owens are prime examples. If you want to see more of Dwight dancing watch Little Sister Don't you Do what your big sister done
This is the more "western" roots of "country and western" as it used to be called. As someone said, referred to as the "Bakersfield sound" from influences in California, most notably Buck Owens.. Dwight carried on that tradition for many years. If you want to see how the "western" subgenre has evolved back away from modern mainstream country over the last few decades, check out a guy names Colter Wall. He's actually Canadian but he very much embodies the traditions of much older western music. Sleeping on the blacktop and The Devil wears a suit and tie would be great ones to start with. You'll never have heard a voice like his ;)
Bakersfield country is a whole different animal, much like the Outlaw country that came out of Austin back in the day. It's like 3 completely different genres.
I like your reactions to Sad songs better ( for some reason) Someday by Alan Jackson I’m Over You by Keith Whitley Farewell Party by Gene Watson Baby’s Gotten Good at Goodbye by George Strait
Country is the most misunderstood musical genre out there, primarily because there is so much 'bad' country music out there that really isn't country at all. Random suggestion if you like this Dwight tune .. check out "Dust in a Baggie" by a cat named Billy Strings. Fantastic flat-picking guitar player and definitely not a "downer."
Honky Tonk Man is another good song by Dwight. Also, check out some Old Crow Medicine Show for some more good tunes with a different type of music (Bluegrass)
Hey there, new subscribver here. If I might give you a suggestion...listen to his song 'I Sang Dixie". Very pretty song. You want the one where it is Live with Buck Owens. It is accoustic and I think it's the best version of it I have heard. Love your channel!! Keep it up guys!!
