In 1990 I was 24 years old with a beautiful brunette by my side ( who is now my wife of 30 years ) a 76 Chevy Scottsdale Pick Up with a 350 Holly four barrel & glass packs. And 3 Cassette tapes, Guitars , Cadillacs - Buenas Noches & If There Was a Way. Ah yes the good ol days. Thanks Dwight 🎸🎶👍🇺🇸❤️
It's insane how a real country artist like Dwight has been overlooked in favor of vastly inferior artists with no originality. Dwight is still the most original artist to come along since the 60's. There are very few memorable ones. He's right up there with Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings. He belongs in that category. The rest since 1990, are mostly garbage except for BR549. That includes that fraud Garth Brooks and everyone who was influenced by him.
Dwight Yoakam is one of the best country singer he have his own style , great lyrics in his songs, excellent musicians working with him . This guy should be in the Hall of fame of country music now , it's a shame.
Love all the songs on this album. Dwight is a delight. Great humour, beautiful voice , intelligent and insightful man. Love everything he does. Wish I had found him earlier. Thank goodness for RU-vid.
Was a Dwight fan from the beginning and he stood his ground against the Country Music Machine and did his own thing with the Bakersfield Sound of Buck Owens and he was grossly underrated and plays real Rock-A-Billy the way we like it. This video got lost in the shuffle and thanks so much for putting it on so we can enjoy it again and again!
Was the old dude that was lip syncing with him also a singer? Who is he if you don't mind me asking? His face looks familiar, I was thinking maybe an actor, but I really can't put my finger on it. Aslo want to say you are absolutely right, I liked him from when I first heard him and I admit it wasn't the beginning, but I finally got to hear him sing, and man when I did I got teased for it. My friends hated his voice, but I didn't care I kept on listening to him. Also got teased for liking The Mavericks they too were my favorite and I found them when they first started out, but after I had kids I didnt keep up with them and when I go and search for videos, and songs that I missed out on, and it's all new to me! Lol! Country music hasn't got the same sound anymore and to me it's not country music anymore. Sounds like teenage pop crap and I hate it especially Taylor Swift think she probably was the one who started changing it and soon other singers followed her. Wish it would go back the way it used to be, but at least we sort of can when we listen to these great classics and yearn to go back! Have a wonderful and blessed day! 🌞😊
@@pintobean4919 The old dude is Harry Dean Stanton, one of the greatest character actors of the second half of the 20th century. His list of credits is pretty impressive. Cool Hand Luke, The Godfather Part II, Alien, Red Dawn, & Escape From New York, just to name a few.
@@pintobean4919 . Thanks to Buck Owens Dwight is that big star he is today, ofcourse it's not Buck that done Dwight to what he is, but influences, that's what Buck given, and if you listen you must hear similarities
@@Leifkarlssonbrastaleif This is a problematic statement given the history. Dwight surely loved the man, but Dwight's sound is not really the Bakersfield sound. Dwight walked through his own door. But sure -- who the hell doesn't dig some Buck?
only if you listen to mainstream radio. trust me, there are plenty of real country twang singers out there. you just won't hear them over the din of luke bryan and the rest of those pretty boys.
@@Hy-Brasil i so agree Emily! Country isn't really a genre that I have appreciated since a child. I was too busy listening to Jane's Addiction and Gwar. But I have found a few good ones not on the radio and I definitely hate pop country. I don't consider him pop country. Very good point though
Harry Dean Stanton was an awesome awesome actor. I thought he was really cute in this video with Dwight yoakam I believe he was even 70 years old and here and he is on skates !!! Wow 🤗
Dean Stanton RIP 💕 was around 86 yrs old at the time he did this video with Dwight. He passed in 2017 at age 91. Dean was much younger than his chronological age and even for his age was sexy in his own way but smart: he'd never try to pull off wearing leather pants like Dwight here. Something about Dean' presence / Soul haunted in a quiet way enduring you to him. Everybody loved him. He was a tall glass of cool water on a hot day with a face like a roadmap. 💕✌ He got a call for a bigger gig in the sky and now he can have any role he wants. RIP Dean Stanton 🌻🦋🌈💕✌
Easily the best country western song ever conceived. The lyrics ring in such compelling fashion and the horns bring it all home. Appreciate HDS providing the dramatic imagery. Thanks kindly DY and especially Buck.
@leif. Funny story 4u I used to play Dwight loud in the car when my son was 5 or six yrs old he said 1 day dad can we listen to something else I hate Dwight I said after this CD ok so a minute later I look in the rearview mirror and he is sitting back there mouthing the words to ole Dwight's song I cracked up and asked him if he hated it so much why was he singing along with the album .
Love the sound of that car starting at the beginning. They don't make them like that any more, just like they don't make singers like Dwight any more. This is a great video.
"Gone". It's a shame country radio gave it the cold shoulder when it came out in late 1995; that was when Shania was first hitting big with her "Woman in Me" album. "Gone" is a very underrated heartbreak/breakup album, and like "This Time", it has a very eclectic sound in many of its songs. Lead single "Nothing" is very R&B/Al Green-sounding, this has a "Ring of Fire" sound with the Mariachi horns, and "Never Hold You" sounds very much like a Petty song that could've been on his "Wildflowers" album, with a guitar riff reminiscent of Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz" (that song also contains backing vocals from The Rembrandts, of the "Friends" theme song fame).
Great video, great song. Saw Dwight in Helotes Texas last month. He works so hard and does the best show ever. red hot band too. We were in Nashville for the CMA too much crap music
Accidentally made my friend cry at a wedding when I asked why she was single before I clued in. Couldn't get this song outta my head for the whole night after that.
@@russnurse2b807 how does he truly understand what videos are for as if only living once and that’s it? Why would anyone play trumpet in tight black leather pants?
I am not the biggest fan of main steam country music. The stuff I like is not on any country radio stations. However, I Love Dwight and think the Bakersfield sound is magical and Mr. Yoakam is amazing! This video is a great mini-movie.
Harry Dean Stanton was an amazing actor. Dwight Yokam. Your music keeps me here in this world full of fall downs. Elvis is probably toe tapping to your awesome and genius, from the heart music you sing. Sjc cheers.
What do you think it's like to play a trumpet in tight black leather pants and why would the red head want to play trumpet? Who is the red head playing the trumpet? Why would the red head wear tight black leather pants that are too tighter for her?
I'm sorry my first Dwight Yoakam live experience Nov. 14/14 was with him as someone else's special guest instead of the headliner. Still I feel lucky to have the op to see/hear this talented man. You can see my Dwight Live photos on Twitter or Google+.
It's so ridiculous that Dwight has to open for anyone. He's a headliner for crying out loud! It just goes to show that there are too few people who are true music lovers. Everyone I ever knew who bought Garth Brooks albums no longer even listens to music!
Hey I saw him in concert last winter, small venue, and damn those jeans are sexy as hell! Got to meet him backstage and he is as nice as he is talented. Seriously, he shook my hand and I was weak in the knees..His voice is as smooth as 30 year old Scotch! Seriously underrated by the Nashville mafia.
