Hi Steve. Again you've saved me a whole lot of time and struggle to test and tune my new DX Commander, Classic by running an SWR sweep using the swr function on my 7100. Have a great weekend be safe whilst on the road. David VK2DMW

I should have done that!

nice video, and good ant set-up. I added another pole behind my 40m vert,so now its a parasitic, and wow its great on tx LP, and noise level gone down. zl3xdj 73

Very Nice! I didn't know the parasitic setup would reduce noise. What all do you have on the parasitic pole?

A lot of guys would have waterproofed that coax connection. Be a shame to get water inside that RG213.
@temporarilyoffline
@temporarilyoffline 3 года назад
Ah but I did waterproof it. It's a big enough pain putting those ends on, really don't want to do that again.

Steve, I will probably do a similar video as mine has been up in the Texas sun for 1 1/2 years and I do have some things that are happening to the antenna. Specifically, the wire guides/guy points have hair line cracks. These do not appear to be anything to worry about so far.
@temporarilyoffline
@temporarilyoffline 3 года назад
I haven't had a reason to take mine down to investigate and its mostly in the shade... I would imagine my plates are just fine.
@don_n5skt
@don_n5skt 3 года назад
@@temporarilyoffline The cracks on my plate are visible starting on the lowest plate with the guy wires. I will post some pictures in your discord.

I live in MI, wondering if you have issues with the snow building up and shorting the ground plate to the driven plate?
@temporarilyoffline
@temporarilyoffline 3 года назад
No, not at all actually. I thought it would matter, but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Do you have a video of the install? I'm considering the extrem nebula and was thinking I might just bury a piece of pipe into some concrete. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

In my case, the 10m (fishing) pole is just sitting on the ground and is held in place by the guy lines. Super simple. I never take it down. You've reminded me I need to do a 2 year update. It still hasn't moved though. If you don't want the guy lines, you can certainly put a pole in the ground and put this over the pole.

@@temporarilyoffline Glad I could remind you of your yearly responsibilities. Lol. Amazing that is just sitting on the ground. Thanks for the video.

lightning protection?
@temporarilyoffline
@temporarilyoffline 3 года назад
I don't have a good answer... but what I do have is a lot of excuses... The first one being that those trees are higher, the second being that I just disconnect the antenna in a storm. Told you it wasn't a good answer.
@AI6XG
@AI6XG 3 года назад
@@temporarilyoffline Be careful, a strike to one of those trees will have enough induced energy to fry your equipment ... and more.
@temporarilyoffline
@temporarilyoffline 3 года назад
I've had that happen with nearby lightening strikes. I've lost a router, a PC Power Supply and 2 LED Lighting fixtures. Have you seen Callum's video about his nearby lightening strike? He lost gear that was unplugged in a box. I imagine if I was present that I'd see lightning coming out of the far end of the coax!

@@temporarilyoffline lightning is gnarly for sure. Always a concern on SOTA activations as well.

don't coil up cable. don't make goofy facial expressions. don't locate an antenna among trees. happy I only skimmed your video

You're absolutely right, nothing in this video works and you shouldn't try it.
