The #Yamaha #DX7IID does things that no other synth I know about can do!
I've been experimenting with all sorts of guitar-type sounds using it.
Last night at Sound Check Studios I ran it through my fancy Re-Amp setup into our 200-Watt Marshall Major with a 4x12 cabinet.
Endless streams of gratuitous noodling ensued.
At the end is a short clip from a previous session in which I explained the entire signal path. The only difference is that I am using a DX7-IID to emulate guitar rather than an actual guitar this time.
Thank you, Jan Hammer, the undisputed king of guitaristic synth leads, for a lifetime of inspiration.
You're the reason I own a Minimoog.

It's really nice seeing a dx7 used for anything other than generic bell and piano sounds, the reamping and all that stuff gives the sound a nice edge and your keyboard skills make this preformance really special.

I always made plucked and clavinet sounds with it, when I still had mine. I think clear, metallic tones, that are more player oriented is its forte.

This is probably very obvious from the guitar patches, which sound super amazing btw, but this trick works really well for adding the bit of distortion you want for Hammond and Rhodes patches (not the classic dx7 rhodes patches but some of the more realistic ones!) And your playing is amazing!!!

Another really cool DX7ii trick no one seems to talk about is to set the synth to unison mode, set the LFO to some level of pitch modulation, set it to multi mode, and turn off the sync. This is *really* nice for simulating a leslie effect on a good organ patch!

Very cool great playing as usual! I modified my DX7 years ago to be able to pitch bend up using aftertouch because I didn't grow up using a pitch wheel - my ARP Axxe had a PPC pad that I loved until I wore my finger through it! Korg ARP PPC not as good as the original - I'd like to see how the Behringer ARP PPC pads feel.
@mootbooxle
@mootbooxle 3 года назад
Thank you Doug! The MkII DX7 has aftertouch pitch bend as a standard feature which I will be demonstrating more in the near future! Pretty wild that you modded yours to do this! I hate the PPC on my KARP Odyssey but I got used to it! The ones on the Behringer Odyssey are a little more forgiving, but I’m still not a big fan! I am a big fan of aftertouch pitch bends though! I use it a lot on the ARP Pro-Soloist and my reissue Minimoog!

I've gotta try that! What is the stock patch you are using? You remember?
@mootbooxle
@mootbooxle 2 года назад
I don’t use stock patches! Eventually I’m going to release a bank of my patches. The trick is to put the pitch bend into Low mode so that only the bottom note gets bent. Putting it into Hi mode allows you to do some convincing hammer-on/pull-off effects! I made two presets, one Low and one Hi, so I can switch between them live.

Hey my friend! We custom wired two 16-channel TT to DB25 connectors to interface between the console and an Apollo 16 interface. The console is mostly used for input - we rarely mix anything “outside the box” these days - but the Sony/MCI 24-track machine is still connected and still works!

Wow at the things plugged. Whenever whatever electrical equipment I have makes that characteristic vibrational electric buzzing sound it worries me A LOT. Any sound/electrical engineering who could explain as to why do we have such sound? (towards the end of the video). Moot! hadn't noticed your accent. It's lovely. I'm sure I have heard it before but cannot remember in which parts of the US that accent is heard. Do you have a podcast? This is for English listening/teaching purposes. Much love! Hope you are doing well during this catastrophic times due to COVID-19
