DXpedition (Radioventure) w/ Sangean 909X on 20 Meters

Hi Tom, I'm 71 so I have lots of years of teachers of all kinds from Accounting to banjo and ukulele but I have to say you might be the best teacher I've ever had. Thank you for all your youtubes. I enjoy them all. I see where we aren't that far apart. I libe in New Tripoi PA and lived in the Lehigh Valley area since 1988. My Dad was a big shortwave listener. He died in 1965 and I have his Drake 2B. Never put up a decent antenna so it just sits on a table. This coming Tuesday a Tecsun PL-600 will arrive in the mail. I got a Sangean Ant-60 in the mail yesterday. Have a nice enclosed 3 season porch I plan to use as a listening post. Can't wait. Maybe I'll put up a decent antenna for the Drake 2B before I die. LOL. Anyway, Thanks a ton that I found you.

Dear Tom, thank you for this interesting video. I am SWL and in the past I had very active times to listen to ham radio operators,; result of decades doing this are more than 200 confirmed countries by QSL and still nowadays I scan the ham bands, but does no longer send reception reports (due to the generally bad answer policy against SWLs). I say that such DX-peditions bringing a lot of fun and we have to thank you for the efforts. Wishing the best from the german Klaus

Tom, you strike me as a calm, never get shook guy...no offense, a compliment,and my opinion. I have a AM FM Weather band Sangean, a very good performer. Also a C Crane SW with a AM that is not working. I have tried all the trouble shooting methods listed in the manual. I also have a couple Zenith Trans Oceanic radios I found over the years, and a flat line antenna kit, I will hook up. I happened onto you channel surfing around, and you have got me re-interested in this hobby, as you call it. Thanks

Nice location. Shortwave listening, by nature is long distance. Call it SWL`ing. Yes, rocks are not good especially if they have iron in them. Are you close to the Black River Wildlife Management Area?. A few miles off RT 10. I hunted there for years. My uncle lived in Long Valley. Good luck! KC3BXZ Joe 73

The other day I was scanning my shortwave radio and I picked up Alex Jones and Infowars!

Hello tom good to hear from you. Having said that you will soon find its terrible on the whip and if you ever compare it to the ccrane you will see that the voice onthe ssb sounds much more natural . i dont remember the last time i was more disapointed in a radio as to the 909x. You have the s 8800 and for the same price you get a lot better radio plus a remote. I would really like to see the tecsun under the same conditions. Ad always thanks. Ron. Z.

hi I am thinking of buying a 909X to listen to SW. Also thinking getting my ham license. If you think there is a better choose then the 909X for SW listening then I would to know what that is?
