I LOVE the addition of Mrs. Brown. You two seem like a fun couple and I love hearing you explain things to someone who is actively giving input and having fun. 10/10, what a joy.
“I have implements in here, sharp ones. We can cut this!” “Okay, I can’t get that open.” “You know you have implements in the shop…” Hahaha, she got ya back so quick!
@@The6677yu It *can* be, however it is a properly accepted pronunciation, and has been used for centuries; in fact it is the original pronunciation of the English word, deriving from the Latin 'pistillum' (itself derived from the verb form of 'pinso') through Old French's 'pestel'.
One idea for improving results with stuff you grind up: use a super fine sieve. You’re consistently getting color from the finer particles that don’t settle out, so jus need to eliminate the heavier ones.
@@peterbrownwastaken there are probably cheaper octopus out there, but a coffee sieve like the one by Kruve would actually let you sort out different particle sizes!
@@joelweikguitar I wonder if, considering the small amounts being ground up and tested, one of those refillable k-cups or a loose-leaf tea ball fed suffice?
For your next Dye Trying, you should do a Sugar & Spice Edition: powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, paprika, ground ginger, and any other $1 spice bottles from Walmart or Dollar Tree or some place like that. Nice and cheap and easy to get.
I'm allergic to corn everything and when I was a kid, Smarties were one of the only candies that didn't have corn syrup. They're like my childhood in pressed sugar. I might have to go out and get some.
@@nssheepster I thought I had, too. Then, in my 30s, I stopped to ask myself whether maybe all the nausea and worsened asthma I was experiencing was because of the corn. Turned out that it was. I should have taken a hint when I tried growing corn and my skin broke out in hives if I got any of the pollen on it.
@@ieuanhunt552 It's better now than when I was a kid. A lot of people are phasing corn syrup out because it's seen as unhealthy. When I was a kid, thanks to the corn allergy and a milk allergy, candy was pretty much limited to smarties and rock candy. I think I'm going to hit the store tomorrow and see if I can find smarties on sale.
OMG, I really can't phantom how it must have been growing up in the US. Like I am a oddball that loves and prefer raw potatoes, but I had friends and siblings. I even bought candy out of habit and the remember that I do not like that myself 🤣
I love the brain molds. Brings back memories. I used to teach a class for EMTs, paramedics, and ER nurses called Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support. The lady who gave the neuro lecture had a life-sized brain shaped Jello mold. She mixed red Jello with evaporated milk (I think). It looked just like a real brain. Kind of gray, with blood red streaks. She scooped out a serving for each student and instructor.
Both the face cream and charcoal have a valid argument against each other: face cream is glossy, while charcoal is matte, which is nice, gives you options for what you want/need
As a Canadian it's always weird to hear Americans talk about Smarties - in Canada Smarties are a flatter M+M, and the powdered sugar pills are called Rockets!
So when the pumpkin kit came out it immediately made me think of those easter egg dying kits with the color pucks. I bet those would work very well. Also I was curious if flour or baby powder would make a good matte white. Oh, and Funfetti cake mix, because why not lol
Pop rocks don't pop after being crushed because you let all the CO2 out. They are under pressure as the "pop rock sheet" solidifies, then they crush it into pieces and put it in the package. It's the melting of the sugar capsules breaking apart that gives it the classic POP.
I actually like the Smarties one. The settled flecks made it look like a rotting fleshy brain. I'd have stuck that in the win pile in my opinion. Granted the usage would be very niche, you'd probably only be able to use it in scenarios where you'd want a disgusting mottled effect, but again, works for what it would work for.
I wonder if putting the moulds in something that vibrates while they cure would have any effect. My first thought was that it might keep things like the Pop Rocks and Smarties in suspension better, but the more I thought about it, it might actually have the opposite effect. That technique is used to form those crystal clear ice blocks by shaking impurities out before they can freeze. Regardless, I think it'd be an interesting experiment to try with resin.
I think it would cause things to separate/sink faster. Tbh I used to set my molds on my washing machine while it was running to help jiggle all the bubbles to the top so I could run a torch and pop them lol
Thats going to have an opposite effect since the particles are still denser and vibration will just sink faster. Vibration is used to separate rather mix.
Can't wait for thanksgiving where we try things like gravy, canned cranberry, sweet potatoes, various pie fillings (cherry, pumpkin puree, molasses) This was great, always a good show when Mrs. Brown can be there to help/needle you along the way
Is canned cranberry really any good? My family always made a cranberry relish instead. (It's an uncooked medium-blended mix of cranberries, oranges, apples and just enough sugar to keep it palatable without killing the tartness)
Those Smarties are totally different to the Smarties we have in the UK. Our Smarties are chocolate beans with sugar shells, a bit like M&Ms but a bit bigger.
Btw - I'm really happy when you get Mrs. Brown in the mix of the videos like these. You two are SO DAMN CUTE and it just gives such an inviting appeal. You two have some of the best chemistry honestly. Have a happy and safe Halloween!
I have a request for a dye trying: SKIN TONES!!! I have been sculpting a doll that I intend to cast in resin, and finding skin pigment is proving quite difficult. Could you use liquid foundation makeup with resin? Powder makeup? Please help me find out!!
@@16stellarstars If it's the powder form it will work beautifully. (He already did some with eye shadow) Liquid might work if you don't add too much since it's water based.
Most makeup works pretty well, I think powdered foundation would work perfectly. There's a lot of overlap in materials between resin pigments and makeup. Hell, sometimes it's the exact same stuff with different labels.
I love that Mrs. Brown is coming into more videos and just how excited she seems to be to be a part of it all. Couples goals for sure. I'm just really happy. Great videos
Popping candy it's basically carbonated candy, so it will also pop when heated up or just because it wants to Also that's why it was so agressive in the mortar you were trying to press something that's already pressurized
Indeed, Peter. The mortar is the container, the pestle is the tool. I always remember it because a mortar shell is what's shot out of a mortar, and pestle sounds like pistol, which is the similarly shaped part of a plant.
Love watching these. It's like a science project I had to do in elementary school. Mixing different things in the kitchen with water to see if they mix or not. Always fun to have Mrs Brown! Thanks for sharing your creativity with me again. Stay safe, Vickie
i LOVE these new videos with Ms Brown in them. It makes the video a lot more happier in them having two people in it. Also, for me, the vibe changes from "here is a dude makings experiments and recording" to "here are two adults goofing around trying stuff" and I like it a lot.
Thank you for putting out so much content the last little bit. I’m sure it’s super time consuming, especially since this isn’t your full time job. Your videos and time are appreciated!!
I realize that it was a previous video... but I wonder if the charcoal would polish up to be glossy, or stay flat? It's a good contrast. Another great video 👍 P.S I love how you call your wife "Mrs. Brown".
always a good day when there is a peter brown video. always a great day when mrs brown make an apearance. always funny. i wish she was in every video even better when we get to see her. i dont remember ever seeing mrs brown before but its great that she is savagly tearing into some smarties
I'm curious to see what the puck of unbroken pop-rocks would look like, I'm guessing they just settled but if some where suspended it could be interesting.
I really enjoyed this episode. All of your experiments are interesting, but it was especially nice to see Mrs. Brown doing this with you. A real pleasure, thank you!
Hey Peter! Matcha is a powdered green tea that is known for its intense bright green color and ultra fine texture. I'm almost positive that it would make an excellent dye! I would love to see it in your next edition of dye trying.
Military camouflage face paint might make a good pigment for resin. Keeping the military theme, a mortar is a short range artillery piece which lobs shells on a high parabolic arc to land behind enemy fortifications. You get to see a few marvelous examples of 18th century mortars in the fortress assault scene in The Last of the Mohicans. In that scene you can definitely see the resemblance to the apothecary device it took it's name from. Modern mortar tubes look nothing like the mortar you used, but General Marquis de Montcalm's mortars from the 1750s are the spitting image of yours but in cast iron.
All your future videos have to be dual actors. Just one thing, though, get pink gloves for the assistant, as we need to know the owners of the hands in action.
@@primmoore6232 In the generic sense, an actor is a person engaged in an action. I've seen black nitrile gloves, no pink ones. Dish washing gloves might be found in pink.
Had to call off work today because I lost my car key, was ghosted by a locksmith, and was almost scammed by a car dealership...but this video is honestly cheering me up so much. I've been hoping for another Dye Trying! Thank you for the smiles, Mr. and Mrs. Brown!
We really Love all of these videos of the different things you try. We have watched them a lot. I hope there are plenty more coming. We get really excited for your videos. Thanks!
The addition of Mrs. Brown in the last few videos has somehow made this channel even more perfect! It would be cool if you did a mini series of you teaching her how to turn a bowl or something. You make it look so easy but since we now know she has only turned a pineapple it could be cool.
Fun episode with Mrs Brown!!! I went to high school with someone who used to grind up smarties and snort them like coke. Even then, I wasn't dumb enough to try that!
This was a fun experiment. I would have never guessed that hair color spray and face cream paint would have colored a resin so nicely and actually set. Also, Smarties are delicious!
I really like that Mrs. Brown has been making more appearances on your videos. Really brings up the wholesomeness of the channel, and I like to see that she is just as curious as you are as to how things will turn out.
Eyeshadow would work, as well as any other expired makeup items Mrs. Brown might have handy. I'd love to see if mascara would work as a good pigment. Plus, you can pick up an eyeshadow pallet at a dollar general for just a few bucks, and have a rainbow of colors at your disposal!
