I just want to thank you. I just spent my morning trying to find out if I can die a blonde wig with the rit dye. You are the only one on all these videos that that I've seen break it down and show how to color the roots the way you did. Now I know how to get darker roots on a blonde wig now. I normally have black hair. I am quarter Indian. I am losing my hair and I have been very sick and I cry a lot. It just makes me sad because of me losing my hair and not being able to look in the mirror and know who I am. Today you help me out a lot. You made me smile and I want to thank you. I have two synthetic wigs. I did the vinegar bath on them. So.... Please cross your fingers and pray because I am very highly allergic to synthetics. So if you have any special things that you can help me with I would really love it. But today you help me out a lot. You made my life better and easier and by you doing that maybe I will have a decent wig to put on my head if it doesn't break me out! LOL! If I could I would have gave you a big hug today LOL! You made me a happy girl today. I am very girly and it's hard to be girly without hair on your head! Lol! I just want to thank you. Alsoooo!.... Hands down I prefer the new Avalon color. It's beautiful. You were absolutely correct, it was to light and blended into your skin tone to much. You did a fabulous job. I have a pretty wig, Joy, that I got on sale but the color was lighter and cooler than I thought it would be. I'm going to try your trick with this dye. Thx for the scoops.

I don't know about a Human Hair blend since dyes for fabric (synthetic hair) and dyes for natural hair are so different. Human hair has porousity and other factors and the harsher dye required to color a synthetic could damage it.

Thanks! I’ve picked up a new tip! It’s from a hairstylist who uses it with dyes on human hair! Mix corn starch to thicken and keep color in place. She says it does not dilute or affect the color in any way. This would be perfect for adding shadow roots with the Rit dye!
Have you ever tried to dye a grey synthetic wig? I have one i want darker. I got it just to see what the grey would look like. I really didn't care for the color but love the wig and design. Would a black color on grey make it really black or dark grey? I just don't know

Hi, after you rooted with the Copic marker did you follow with alcohol & brush and then used cold water with the conditioner? I also do the rooting too with the Copic I find sharpies to make the fibers a red cast....I also found if you let the Copic marker dry well for a few days and then wash it blends nicely and takes away any lines....I also use the same conditioner...thanks for the video great job.....
Thanks!! I love the Copic markers, they just come in every shade, and the color it leaves on the wig is true to expectations. I also love that brush tip! Sharpies are ok but they are so limited in natural haircolor tones and the tips aren't amazing... but they work! I usually wash it right after, but I will definitely try letting it sit for a few days first! I like to give it a wash to get the alcohol out so I reduce the drying, and then add the conditioner same day to lock it all in and put back any moisture needed after tossing that style around a mannequin head all day!
Has anyone ever tried this on a mixed color like Ellen Wille's Berstein Mix? Was thinking of using the Rit DyeMore in color Chocolate Brown all over it as the light red on it isn't working for me.
This looks amazing and I really want to try to do this myself but I had a few questions. After using the toner and the marker....will that make my wig smell like a marker? (Some of them are really strong smelling). Did you shampoo the wig after using the toner and marker and will it fade after a few washes? You really captured how natural hair looks with a variety of hues in it. Truly beautiful!
Hi - The markers I used are Copic markers, and they don't have a strong scent and they go on very smooth vs. a blunt marker like a Sharpie. They are more expensive though. I don't usually wash them after I color them, but you could. Just like doing tie dye on clothes, it is permanent but might fade a little each time you wash it.
How do you tone down the crazy transfer (color bleeding) after rinsing out the marker ink? It transfers so much my forehead is covered in permanent marker stains , and I can’t style it without wearing gloves.
Wig noob here...wonderful and informative video. Question: I'd like to add allover highlights or streaks of auburn to a curly wig that's P4/27/30 which I thought would look a LOT more auburn, but doesn't - it almost looks gray compared to my own auburn color. Could I spray on the Rit dye? Or could I comb a little dye through each curl? (This is the brand It's A Half-Wig LAURIE style.) Or best to paint a little dye throughout each curl? If steaks aren't possible, can you recommend which Rit color to use to approximate Dark Auburn #33? Thank you SO much for any info! Have a great week!
If you want a richer more vibrant color - and you want it in streaks - I would use te method from my other video on dying wigs with Highlights linked below. I'd start with some all over color using the alcohol ink spray bottle method or Rit Dye soaking, and then come back in with the markers to add highlights. Hi. I've done this rooting technique with a Copic marker before, but without using alcohol. I found that the color rubs off on my hands. Does applying the alcohol completely stop the color from rubbing off? Thanks!
I’ve used Copic markers to slightly darken the root area of synthetic fibers, and I think what’s key is that you only go one direction with the marker. Don’t rub back and forth or you might unravel the fiber some.
I have a blonde wig with dark brown roots. Is there a way to lighten them to light brown? It is synthetic - Alva by Noriko. I also have a blonde wig I want to turn strawberry (light) blonde. Can you recommend a color dye? Thanks so much. This really made me feel it was possible to get what I want. Strawberry blond seems impossible to get - either blond shades and two little bits of light auburn or light auburn with a couple of highlights. Very frustration.
So I don't know enough about color theory to know what colors to add to make a strawberry blonde - but I would guess if you got a red and an orange RIT Dyemore Synthetic you'd be able to get some of those warmer tones into it. Unfortunately though, you can't lighten a synthetic wig. You can only add to the color.
I’ve lightened too-dark roots on a synthetic wig using spray paint for hair in platinum blonde. It came out a little stiff, so I washed it and it softened the fibers but left some of the spray paint. It looks better, but I do wish the wig manufacturers wouldn’t make the roots so dark and harsh-looking, especially on the lighter blonde colors. To me it looks tacky. As a natural blonde with light brows and lashes it looks ridiculous!
Interesting! I was wondering if there is any point in the first stage using the Rit Dye? The overall colour change was from the Dye travelling down the strands through gravity? Would it not be easier to dunk the whole wig into the dye, rinse and let dry, then use the markers?
These are great questions!! The reason that I didn't just dunk the whole thing is two part. 1. I liked the pink and didn't want to cover it all up. I just wanted to "tone it down" - so I went with a light application of the brown dye on just the top layers, leaving the bottom untouched. It looks very multi-dimentional, still has that pink I love, but is much more natural. 2. When I tested dyes in a previous video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qw---9-krnY.html) It was very clear that the thread and materials in tracks or used to secure the hair to the wig takes up the dye - a lot. I didn't want this light pink wig with super dark tracks. Instead, I did this method so I could avoid the lace and tracks at all costs so that they'd continue to blend in!
Thinking of trying this, but possibly adding a bit of Xanthan Gum to give it more of a gel effect - more controllable when adding low-lights? Have you tried this? Cheers

@@TheWiggyWoman We don't have a lot of the neat toys down here in New Zealand. Did try some furniture markers, but they weren't all that good. Will most probably go the way of alcohol based permanent ink so that was why I was thinking of Xanthan Gum. I won't be rooting anything, just adding lowlights. Cheers.
is there a way to get blonde wig to have more warmth? My wig is an ash brown but i want it a lil more yellow or a “warm” look rather then a cool tone. Would i use brown to dye it? Or should i use a yellow?
The opposite of ash would be like a brassy - I would maybe take a test strand and add some orangey brassy tones to it to give it a warmer look... but don't do it straight to the entire wig without testing it first to figure out the best shade of brassy orange to give you the desired outcome!
This is where Copic markers are amazing… they have soo many shades of black/gray/brown and there’s so many more options than sharpies. Look at copic marker shades E49, N9 and BV29! You can find them at craft stores, or online!
I would really love to see the results for this... unfortunately, your lighting //camera setting is WAYYY too highly contrasted, you can’t see what any of the actual colors are, nor any of the mid-tones. (I’m not being shady, I really DO want to see these results!) please keep that in mind in the future...
