Hi everyone! In this video I create a beautiful mixed media art journal page using the Dylusions square creative journal as well as Dylusions Ink Sprays and Paints. I also use other supplies such as stencils and acrylic markers. I honestly didn't have a plan in mind and I show you my thinking process behind choosing the tools I use as well as creating the main subject of interest. I hope you enjoy!

I love this page. My favorite flower. 💞😍 loved watching the process. I just bought a mixed media notebook but now I need to buy paints and sprays. Tfs

Lovely page, Barbara! I really like, not putting down a layer of gesso on the flower, for it allows the hint of the background. It looks so nice and interesting here. The highlights on the circles and words, along with the border, makes for a pretty and whimsical page. Nice job. I will enjoy going back through your videos that interest me, now that I have found you and subscribed. You’ll hear from me from time-to-time. What I have watched so far, have inspired me. You do lovely work. I’m especially looking forward to doing the negative watercolor pages, then cutting them up into cards. Thanks for those, along with this dandy. I haven’t played with my Dylusions sprays with their paints and has reminded me to get them out for the holiday card backgrounds and poinsettias, I’m starting to work on. The They will be a nice break, in between the gelli prints and alcohol ink. Thanks so much, Barbara.

This was great! It’s crazy because so far I’ve only used my dylusion ink sprays to fill watercolor pens like Dyan does (which I LOVE!!), I have yet to actually SPRAYYY with the sprays... but after this, I’m inspired!! lol Thanks!

Will painting the page with clear gesso work before adding all the wet paint, dyes, water, etc...?
@peaceandpaintbrushes
@peaceandpaintbrushes 5 лет назад
Yea that will work for liquid paints. If your using mostly thicker acrylic as well, I would suggest doing that before the clear gesso bc it will change the texture of your page as it adds a sort of tooth to it. But if your just going in with fluid mediums the clear gesso is the way to go.

That is a great question. Usually no, especially in her journal. Bit some cases if I want a special effect I will I suggest you Play around and see what happens with putting some randomly on a page and see the difference

What was the purpose of ripping out a page?
@peaceandpaintbrushes
@peaceandpaintbrushes 5 лет назад
I ripped it out so that the same coloring or pattern wouldn’t be side by side with this one. I can tape it back in the journal wherever I see fit or where it looks better. It also helps not get as much ink in the cracks of the journal and is the way Dyan Reavley often does get pages. It’s not necessary but can bring variet to your journal.
@rayneonopa8680
@rayneonopa8680 5 лет назад
Dyan does it sometimes so that the book doesn’t get to thick that’s it

I loved watching this page come together and seeing the end result... I was thinking that you could have done the border in the black first, but just before you said it I realised you wouldn't have had the other layers coming through which really added to your page. I don't have any dylusion paints yet, but just love the vibrancy of the colours they have

Love the sunflower. To me the page looks unbalanced. I would have added the border to the left side of the page. I would have done several things differently that’s why we make original art work. Have u ever tried Dina Wakley paint? I’ve taken classes with both artists and often use both products on same page but Dina’s paints take much longer to dry.
@peaceandpaintbrushes
@peaceandpaintbrushes 5 лет назад
You can def complete the border but my plan was doing something on the left hand page with a border to complete the look. So then if I’d done a border it would look weird. Yea I’m not a fan of Dinas paints just bc they are heavy body. I do like the colors tho.

I am so confused about tearing out that opposite page. Seems like having to tape pages back in weakens the book. Way too long!
@peaceandpaintbrushes
@peaceandpaintbrushes 2 года назад
Dyan (Dylusions) does this. It’s so that if you don’t want two completely different pages with same background side by side, you can put it where you want. And actually the tape kind of cures after a while and it makes the book pretty strong. I made it long on purpose for those just starting out to see it step by step.

Why do you blot versus letting the vibrant ink dry? Is there a benefit to blotting each time you ad ink spray?
@peaceandpaintbrushes
@peaceandpaintbrushes 6 лет назад
I blot bc it dries faster mainly. And there isn’t that much of a difference when compared, since the ink dyes the paper really quickly. When the wet ink dries it loses some of its vibrancy as well. I also don’t want it running through to the next pages. Also Dyan Reavely (Dylusions) suggests doing it. You don’t have to blot at all, do your own thing if you like it better. It’s all personal preference. I just don’t like waiting for puddles to dry 😆

@peaceandpaintbrushes
@peaceandpaintbrushes 3 года назад
I tore it out to get the same colors on the page but be able to move it to another spot so it wouldn’t be 2 different spreads with the same color. Mostly because I only wanted to work in a small area. I can washi tape that page where I need it to make the book look cohesive. Dyan does it all the time. You can always keep it it as well and change the color up or do a full spread. It’s artist’s choice 😀

Enjoyed your process! Wonderful page❤️💜. I learned a few tips...awesome! Thanks :) I’m going to have to get more sprays. I have four (an orange, pink, purple and turquoise) and I haven’t used them as a spray yet. I put some of them in a waterbrush (something Dyan also recommends). I wish I could afford a tenth of the stencils you have!! WOW, doll. Do you have any you don’t use? Do you gesso your pages? The artist behind peonyandparokeet doesn’t gesso her pages only in the Dylusions journals. You should look her up...she’s an amazing artist! She has a RU-vid channel and a website. I recommend getting on her email list. You’ll learn a lot (if you want to learn about art outside of what Dyan and other people within Ranger do). I’m not one that purchases a lot of the media one artist sells (paints, tools, stencils, powders, stickers, inks, etc.). I may buy some things, but not much. The artist whose products I have the most of is probably Tim Holtz. I think he’s a true innovator. Oh!Where are you from? You sound Southern. I’m Southern ;). I can tell you’re not from where I’m from, though. P.S. you should try some brush tip posca pens if you haven’t. They are awesome! If you have some stencils you could let go of or are willing to let go of would you be willing to do a supply trade? I have a lot of fun, yummy supplies. I look forward to viewing more of your vids!

Otherwise it had been an interesting and relaxing experience watching you craft. Some nice ideas and techniques. And some interesting information. (I don't have the dylusions paints. They're all rather expensive, and I thought the inks were enough. But thanks to your info I may try a few.)
